This fantastic Champagne comes from the villages of Pierry and Moussy in the sud-Epernay sub region of Champagne. Bruno Michel has been organic since 1999 and 5 of his 37.5 acres are farmed biodynamically. This vintage Brut is 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier, and it offers stupendous balance between simple enjoyment/drinkability and more intellectual geeked out notes of wet stone and austere minerality.

This spectacular Champagne is made from one plot, the "9 Arpents" in the village of Moussy. This vineyard is all Meunier, and the vines are 70 years old and pre-date the arrival of cloned vines in Champagne. In 1970 the underachieving fifth growth Clerc Milon was purchased by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, a watershed occasion for the estate, which had been producing medocre wines at best. Strange that the wines weren't always spectacular, if you consider that the vineyards of Clerc Milon lay sandwiched between Mouton and Lafite. Well, by the mid to late 70s, Rothschild had turned around this venerable estate. This represents a considerable value in mature Bordeaux.
