2003 The Royal Tokaji Wine Company Red Label 5 puttonyos 500ml
2003 The Royal Tokaji Wine Company Red Label 5 puttonyos 500ml

Looking for a special wine to serve as an aperitif, digestif or dessert wine? This is only the seventh vintage of Royal Tokaji Red Label since the wine was first released in 1990 (other vintages include 1991, 1993, 1995, 1996, 2000 and this, the 2003). A carefully selected blend of furmint, hárslevelú and muscat went into this wine, aged for 3 1/2 years in old oak. This Hungarian gem is one of the world's best sweet white wines, makes a fabulous gift and it won't break the bank.

2004 Patricius "Red Lion" Tokaji Aszu 3 Puttonyos 500ml
2004 Patricius "Red Lion" Tokaji Aszu 3 Puttonyos 500ml

This 3 Puttonyos Tokaji Aszú wine is produced by Patricius for their value line "Red Lion". It is a very approachable dessert wine exhibiting the typical botrytis flavors of a good Tokaji Aszú. But this one is less sweet and complex than the bigger and more expensive 5 and 6 Puttonyos wines. This is an excellent value, and just the thing to show off you most fabulous apple-based desserts.

1999 Villa Pillo Vin Santo 375ml
1999 Villa Pillo Vin Santo 375ml

It's not easy making Vin Santo. For starters the grapes (trebbiano and malvasia) are left to dry slowly in a special outbuilding, which concentrates the sugar and flavor component considerably. What little juice is left after this process is fermented and stored in very small casks called caratelli, which are filled just three-fourths of the way. And then time stands still. For four years the wine oxidizes and ages, and then: Perfection! Villa Pillo's Vin Santo is an archetypal example of Tuscany's after dinner sipper. Ideal with biscotto at the close of... 2003 Chateau Pajzos Tokaji Aszú 3 Puttonyos 500ml
2003 Chateau Pajzos Tokaji Aszú 3 Puttonyos 500ml

In times past, Hungarian Tokaji wines were highly prized. Long before Sauternes, they graced the tables of European kings and connoisseurs. In the summer of 1991, the late Jean-Michael Arcaute and Jean-Louis Laborde led a group of wine lovers in the acquisition of Chateau Pajzos, long acknowledged as among the finest vineyards of the region. They carried out the first 'private enterprise' harvest and vinification, thus launching the Renaissance of Tokaji. Today, Ch. Pajzos is under the sole ownership and direction of Jean-Louis Laborde, now assisted by h... Read More »

2001 Hétszölö Tokaji Aszu 6 Puttonyos 500ml
2001 Hétszölö Tokaji Aszu 6 Puttonyos 500ml

With a stunning 120 g/l of residual sugar (minimum), this original dessert wine was made according to tradition, harvesting only starts after 28th October, and may last until the first snows, so as to allow the botrytis cinerea (noble rot) to develop and to obtain the maximum concentration of grape must. When the grape must concentration is sufficient, the grapes with noble rot are separately harvested. The Aszú grapes are manually harvested one by one, and maceration takes place with the grape must. Next fermentation takes place in barrels for one and a... Read More »

If you are in search of a very special wine to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, and you appreciate doing things a little differently, this is an ideal choice. Sure, anyone can buy a mature Bordeaux. This is one for the true oenophile, a fortified Grenache-based red from the South of France, where the style is popular (think Banyuls) akin to port and so so damn good with chocolate!

(01/89) 90 points Robert Parker: "Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. 1995 Smith Woodhouse LBV Port
1995 Smith Woodhouse LBV Port

This is a selection of some of the finest quality wine of a single year, bottled, like Vintage Port, without fining or filtration, but after four years rather than two years in the wood. The extra wood age softens the wine and leads to an accelerated ageing in bottle. The result is akin to fully mature Vintage Port in flavour and complexity. Smith Woodhouse is one of the very few Port shippers to continue making LBV in the traditional way and to market the wine only after it has been bottle aged. This Port represents exceptional value for money.

The 1997's light gold color is accompanied a gorgeous perfume of caramel, honeysuckle, peach, apricot, and smoky wood. Full-bodied and unctuously-textured, with good underlying acidity as well as loads of sweetness and glycerin, it looks to be a great vintage for this renowned Sauternes estate. Colheita Ports are single year Ports that have been matured in wood for at least seven years, though they are generally bottled just before they leave the cellar, which is usually long after the spirit's seventh birthday. 1982 was a relatively dry year with a very cold winter and warm summer. Budbreak hit earlier than usual, providing lower yields for a small, but delicious Port. Gone are the days when bottles of rich Charbono graced our dinner tables and the sounds of Journey played on our eight tracks. An uncommon red-wine grape grown in California's Napa Valley and Mendocino County, Charbono wines are very dark in color and tend to be both tannic and acidic (hence long aging). Charbono is thought to have links to Corbeau (or Charbonneau), a rare French variety, but its true ancestry is as mysterious and obscure as the depths of your uncle's purple shag carpeting.
