2005 Pride Mountain Napa/Sonoma Counties Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The deep ruby/purple-colored 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (58% from Napa and 42% from Sonoma) possesses a full-bodied mouthfeel as well as loads of cassis fruit, and smoky, subtle oak in the background. Round, plump, and hedonistic, it should drink well for a decade. (RP)" (12/2007)92 points Wine Enthusiast: "A big, juicy young Cab that impresses for sheer flashiness, yet needs some time for its edges to soften. The ripe blackberry and cassis fruit is deep and generous, with nuances of smoky oak and sweet herbs. But the tannins are very strong and astringent. Needs cellar time. Best afte ...Read More »

2005 Heitz Cellar "Trailside" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Wine Spectator: "This fine new release, with some bottle age, shows signs of subtle maturity. Aromas of mocha, cedar, dried currant and spice box follow through to a full body, This is well-built, with fine balance and good length. (Web-2011)" K&L Notes: In the early 1980s, the Heitz Family acquired a marvelous Rutherford vineyard bordered on one side by the Silverado Trail and nudged on the other by the Conn Creek. Thus the Trailside Vineyard was born. Aged for three-and-a-half years in a combination of American and French Limousin oak, the 2005 is elegantly perfumed to complement a... Read More »

2005 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon at age ten is still a young, vibrant, dense ruby/purple -colored wine with lots of classic cassis fruit and a touch of earth undertones. It offers relatively soft and silky tannins by the standards of Montelena, but they’re there. It is full-bodied, rich and impressive. Cabernet Sauvignon from the northern end of the Napa Valley in Calistoga tends to be the St.-Estèphe of Napa. This wine is certainly one of the great ones. Forget it for another 3-4 years and drink it over the following 20-25. 93+ (RP)" (6/2015)93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep ruby-re ...Read More »

2005 Lail "J Daniel Cuvee" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 J. Daniel Cuvee has put on considerable weight since last year, and the good news is that there are 1,400 cases of it. Dense ruby/purple in color with notes of graphite, black currant, coffee bean, crushed rock, chocolate, and spice, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is full-bodied, powerful, tannic, and seems to combine the best of both a top Bordeaux and a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2030. 94+ (RP)" (12/2007)93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good full medium ruby. Black cherry, cassis and licorice on the slightly medicinal nose. Pliant, juicy and spicy, with ...Read More »

2005 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Sonoma/Napa Counties Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Wine Spectator: "*Top 100 Wines of 2008* Rich and complex, brimming with dense, opulent yet elegant layers of mocha, black cherry, blackberry and wild berry fruit that's pure, focused, deep and persistent, ending with mouthcoating flavors and ripe, fleshy tannins." (10/2008)94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is the densest, most tannic of Pride’s new releases, obviously meant for the cellar. You could drink it now, because it’s so lush, but the tightness suggests that the winemaker doesn’t want you to. Buried under the astringency are masses of cassis, dark chocolate, sweet fresh herbs and smoky oak. ...Read More »

2005 Lewis Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Back In Stock!
2005 Lewis Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Terrific depth and concentration marks this wine as a star from the very first sniff, and everything about its deeply fruited, cherry and currant aromas, its supple, slightly fleshy, tannin-balanced palatal impressions and its long, youthfully tough but deliciously promising finish confirms its quality. Wines like this can be very good when young, but this one has so much room to grow that it needs to be allowed the opportunity to mature into a richer, rounder bottling over the next decade." (4/2008)91 points Wine Spectator: "Tight and compact, yet rich and concentrated, with spicy ...Read More »

2005 Corison Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine is so balanced it hits the palate as impeccable and gorgeous. The flavors, of currants, cherries, vanilla and sweet oak, are only part of it. It is so dry, so richly structured in tannins and acids, so pure through the long, spicy finish, that it easily deserves its high score. Will age well for up to a decade." (2/2009)92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good full ruby-red. Musky aromas of dried cherry, cedar, fresh herbs, incense and tobacco. Dense, juicy and fine-grained, with lovely verve to its delineated flavors of raspberry, spices, loam, leather and herbs. Finishes ripe ...Read More »

2005 Robert Mondavi "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Back In Stock!
2005 Robert Mondavi "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Wine & Spirits: "Genevieve Jannsens has been working with To Kalon fruit, on and off, since 1978. Her blend for Mondavi Reserve includes several of the oldest dry-farmed blocks in this historic vineyard, some dating to 1945. She sets out to make a wine of elegant power and intensity, and this 2005 is a triumph. It presents cabernet sauvignon as an aristocratic wine, with just enough supple richness to fill out the austere tannins. A hint of green herb and a gloss of cocoa integrated from the new oak add complexity as the profound, earthy flavors open and expand with air. ...Read More »

2005 Philip Togni "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon is a more closed and restrained style of wine, with firm tannins, Bordeaux-like austerity, but dense ruby/purple with notes of menthol, black currant liqueur, coffee, and a hint of olive. The wine is full-bodied, youthful, tannic, and a promising candidate for long-term cellaring. In fact this kind of vintage at Togni generally means laying the wine away for at least a decade, which is always good advice here. This may be a 30- to 40-year Togni Cabernet Sauvignon. (RP)" (12/2007)91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium ruby-red. Wild nose combines black raspber ...Read More »

2005 Spottswoode "Family Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Spottswoode "Family Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (97WE, 96RP, 95JS, 93ST, 93WS, 90CG). Wine Enthusiast: "Tasted in a big lineup of St. Helena Cabernets, Spottswoode’s magnificent ’05 stood out. It’s a massive powerhouse, explosive in black currant, cherry pie, plum, chocolate, anise and cedar flavors that are detailed and precise. However, the wine, which was blended with a little Cabernet Franc, is graceful and balanced. Drinkable now due to its softly refined tannins, but has the integrity to ride out the years. Easy to find, with 3,896 cases produced." (04/2009)

2005 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Sonoma/Napa Counties Claret

95 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Among the richest and most outgoing wines in this issue, Pride's Reserve Claret is a fully extravagant wine that trades equally on deep fruit, ripeness and a wealth of lavish oak spice, but it never crosses over the line of being too much. Its tantalizing plumpness and succulent Merlot properties are offset just now by a bit of Cabernet toughness that prescribes a bit of patience, and make no mistake about it, this compelling effort is certainly bound for better, and it will continue to unfold for six to twelve years and last longer." 2005 Blankiet "Paradise Hills Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Paradise Hills Vineyard (1,200 cases) reveals a chocolatey espresso roast note with mocha, blackberry and cassis, high tannins, but full body, superb concentration, purity, and an almost Graves-like scorched earth character. This wine needs 3-4 years of bottle age, and should last 25-30 years. (RP)" (12/2007)93 points Antonio Galloni: "Deep ruby-red. Distinctly cooler on the nose than the 2004, offering scented aromas of blackberry, violet, bitter chocolate, tobacco and wild herbs, along with a hint of hay and a citrus high note. 2005 Gemstone "Facets" Yountville Proprietary Red (1.5L)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Facets is elegant, austere by the standards of California, and almost a dead-ringer for a Medoc from Bordeaux. The wine is dark ruby/purple-tinged with a floral, restrained nose of sweet cherries and soil and undertones of underbrush and barrique. The wine is medium-bodied, pretty, pure, and represents an attractive, French-styled blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot. It should drink nicely for 10-12 years." (12/2007)

2005 Schrader "Old Sparky" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2005 Schrader "Old Sparky" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (100RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Sparky (only available in magnums) is the highest in alcohol (14.8%) and, again, was aged in 100% new Darnajou barrels. This is just magnificent and at age ten, tasting like it was four to five years of age. Of course, tasting from magnum contributed somewhat to that, but it’s a great, great example of the Schrader’s favorite cuvée, hence the name. It is predominantly made from Clone 6, with small amounts of Clones 4 and 337. Like all these wines, it has an inky purple color, with notes of licorice, forest floor, graphite, cedar wood and creme de cassis and new saddle leather. Voluptuously textured, expansive, savory and full-bodied, with super-sweet tannins and a finish that goes on for close to a minute, this is a prodigious wine and one of the superstars of the vintage. Look for it to drink well for another 30+ years."

2005 Sloan Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Sloan Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (97RP, 95ST, 94WS, 92JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This vineyard, high above the Rutherford AVA, on the gorgeous hillside not far from the famed restaurant and hotel Auberge du Soleil, has produced a winner in my retrospective of 2005s. This is clearly a great terroir, and that comes through in this savory, broad, expansive, pure 2005 Proprietary Red from Sloan. Offering black raspberry and blackcurrant fruit, silky tannins, notes of forest floor and spice box, and loamy soil undertones, the wine is dense, full-bodied, opulent, and just entering its plateau of maturity, where it should keep for another 15-20 years. This was one of the stunners in the great line-up that I tasted of 10-year-old North Coast Cabernet Sauvignons. (RP)" (06/2015)

2005 Flora Springs "Hillside Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The five essentially single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons are represented by the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Hill Reserve. This is a classic example of Rutherford with cedar and soil undertones and beautiful black currant and spice box notes, full body, good acidity, ripe tannin, and a long, layered finish that builds incrementally.
