2010 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Top Pick!
2010 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Wine Spectator: "Shows a good touch of bottle age and a notably oaky presence, marked by dill, vanilla bean and coconut notes wrapped around a rich, authoritative, full-bodied core of loamy earth, dark berry, licorice and espresso. Drink now through 2028." (4/2015) K&L Notes: The 2010 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. As always the wine goes to 100% new American oak barrels for aging. From the winery: "Our 2010 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a seamless wine that expresses bright, fresh fruit char... 2012 Robert Craig Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Antonio Galloni: "The highlight among these releases from Robert Craig, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder is off the charts gorgeous. A super-classic Veeder profile of graphite-infused blue and black fruit opens up in the glass. The inclusion of 20% Merlot in the blend helps soften some of the mountain tannins, but there is still no shortage of personality and intensity. A radiant finish round out this knockout effort from Robert Craig. I can't recommend the 2012 highly enough, especially for its very reasonable price tag. 2011 Dunn Vineyards Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon Top Pick!
2011 Dunn Vineyards Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Antonio Galloni: "93+ points. Dark red cherries, plums, menthol, tobacco, new leather and spices are some of the notes that inform the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain. Hints of lavender and licorice develop in the glass as the wine gradually opens up. In 2011, the Howell Mountain Cabernet offers plenty of depth and resonance, but the tannins are quite tamed by Dunn standards, making it a delicious wine to drink earlier than other recent vintages. Randy Dunn's 2011s are surprisingly open, supple and expressive at this stage. Dunn describes 2011 as a year in which t ...Read More »

2012 Duckhorn "Three Palms Vineyard" Napa Valley Merlot

"Duckhorn's Three Palms bottling is one of the oldest and most consistent Merlot vineyard designations in California..." wine critic Steve Heimoff wrote in the Wine Enthusiast a few years back. The Three Palms Merlot is grown just off the Silverado Trail near Calistoga, in the warm northern Napa Valley.

2012 DuMol "Ryan" Green Valley Pinot Noir

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Made from the Martini selection of Pinot Noir, there are 1,002 cases of the 2012 Pinot Noir Ryan, which comes entirely from the Widdoes Vineyard. Burgundian-like notes of raspberries, blueberries, sassafras, cola, tobacco leaf and barbecued meats are followed by a rich, full-bodied, multidimensional, big, earthy, savory Pinot Noir. Enjoy it over the next decade."93 points Antonio Galloni: "Dark red cherries, plums, smoke, game, spices and new leather are some of the notes that take shape in the 2012 Pinot Noir Ryan Widdoes Vineyard. 2010 Anakota "Helena Dakota" Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The same can be said for the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Dakota Vineyard. However, it offers sweeter tannins as well as slightly more evolved and complex aromas of unsmoked, high class cigar tobacco, graphite, blackberries, cassis, spring flowers and a distinctive minerality. Although deep, full-bodied and backward, the sweet fruit and tannin provide a more upfront character than the 2009. It, too, is a 30-50-year wine. 2010 Beaulieu Vineyard "Georges de Latour" Private Reserve Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve is a drop-dead gorgeous beauty. Freshly cut flowers, mint, spices, licorice and graphite all burst from the glass as the 2010 shows off its personality. While some of Beaulieu's 2010s are ripe and flashy, the Georges de Latour is wonderfully fresh and alive in the glass, not to mention absolutely classic in feel. Graphite, violets and pencil shavings linger on the close. The 2010 has captured every bit of the potential I sensed last year." 2010 Groth "Reserve" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* If you don’t cellar this Cab, you’ll miss out on what it has to offer. It is a dry, deeply flavored, superbly structured wine, rich in tannins, with brooding depths of flavors ranging from black currants, cassis and licorice to hints of dried herbs and sweet, toasty cedar wood. The alcohol is on the high side, in the modern Napa style, but the wine wears its heat well. Start drinking it after 2018." 2012 Darioush Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

"Reflecting the strengths of Napa Valley's 2012 vintage, the Signature Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits beautiful layers of blueberry and black cherry aromas mingled with bittersweet cocoa, cinnamon and cigar box. Rich and dense on the palate with blackberry, dried fig and anise flavors, the wine is further enhanced by savory and earthbound elements of dried sage and French roast coffee. The tannins are firm, refined and mineral-laden, offering a complete, long-term and rewarding wine experience," cites the winery.

2013 Paul Hobbs "Hyde Vineyard" Carneros Pinot Noir

93 points Antonio Galloni: "A huge, powerful wine, the 2013 Pinot Noir Hyde Vineyard hits the palate with notable intensity. Game, smoke, grilled herbs, licorice and blue/purplish fruit flesh out over time. Savory, dense and at times quite wild, the Hyde is starkly different in style from the other Pinots in this range. Then again, that is Carneros. (AG)" (1/2015) 89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "My tasting notes on these same Pinot Noir cuvées in 2013 revealed slightly smaller production numbers, and wines with more crisp acids, perhaps not the flesh and fat of the 2012s, but stylistically, they are more elegant an ...Read More »

1997 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is a dense purple color with boisterous, sweet, spicy, new oak, licorice, and olive notes. This flamboyant wine tastes lighter than I would have expected for a 1997. In the mouth, it reveals medium body, sweet jammy cherry fruit, and a soft finish." (12/2000) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Ruby-red, with a hint of development at the rim. Classic California cabernet aromas of blackcurrant, tar and menthol. Dense purple in color, with notes of blackcurrants, blackberry, charcoal and incense, the wine is full-bodied, opulent and a big-time winner. This is a stunner that’s drinking well already and yet promises to age well for 15-20 years." (10/2014)92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon jumps from the glass with dark red plum, raspberry, spice and new leather. 1997 Arrowood "Réserve Spéciale" Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It sounds preposterous, but when I put my nose in the 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Speciale, it reminded me of the 1996 Latour. California Cabernets are bigger, weightier efforts than most Bordeaux, so the comparison ends with the aromatics. There are 1,611 cases of this profound Cabernet Sauvignon, which spent 28 months in primarily French oak (a tiny bit of American oak was utilized), and was bottled with neither fining nor filtration. Its dense black/purple color is accompanied by layers of cassis, cedar-tinged fruit, and abundant spice. Muscular, ...Read More »

2011 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Plum, black cherry, menthol, tobacco and licorice meld together gracefully as the 2011 opens up in the glass. The combination of fruit and structure is compelling. This is a fabulous appellation-level Pinot, due in part to the vineyard blend, which in 2011 includes 40% fruit from Gap's Crown, along with Terra del Promissio and Walala. (5/1999)91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, .5% Merlot, and 1.5% Petit Verdot) has a dark ruby/plum color and a gorgeous, complex nose of cedar, spice box, cherries, jammy plums and cassis. The 2011 is quite delicate today, almost uncharacteristically so. Once again, the Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon was made entirely from Howell Mountain fruit. Previously owned by the family (from 1968 to 2013), the winery has been known for making lean, balanced, long-aging wines. 94 points John Gilman: "...The superb and utterly classic nose soars from the glass in a constellation of black cherries, cassis, dried eucalyptus, tobacco, superb, stony minerality, a lovely touch of weediness (which I find absolutely proper with Cabernets in this stage of development- in fact, if a wine does not display this characteristic, I often wonder what has been done to suppress this natural side of Cabernet Sauvignon!) and a gentle framing of cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and beautifully balanced, with superb focus... Read More »

2008 Sean Thackrey "Orion" St. Helena Proprietary Red

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Marching to the beat of a drummer largely unknown to any other winemaker in California, Sean Thackerey continues to produce some extraordinary wines, in this case from a field blend planted in 1905. This is clearly a Rhone Ranger blend, with a dense ruby/purple color and loads of incense, camphor, blue and black fruits, earth, and spice. Full-bodied, rich, and bursting with personality, the wine is unique/singular, with an intensity that has to be tasted to be believed. Drink it over the next decade or more." (8/2010) Jancis Robinson: "Described on the front label as 'Calif ...Read More »

2011 Cade Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Antonio Galloni: "Dark red cherries, wild flowers, mint, savory herbs, mocha and licorice all flesh out in the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain. Deep and beautifully layered, the 2011 stands out for its delineation, energy and pure vibrancy. I very much like the sense of energy here. This is a relatively gentle, suave style for Howell Mountain, but at the same time, there is plenty of early accessibility. The 2011 is 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot." (11/2013) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark red. Aromas of cocoa powder, mocha, licorice, violet and tobacco leaf, along with an herbal spearm ...Read More »

2012 Cakebread Napa Valley Chardonnay (1.5L)

Jancis Robinson: "Expressive and ripe on the nose, with all the typical stuffing of Napa Chardonnay. Aromatically spiced oak giving clove and something a bit peppery. Plenty of alcoholic warmth. (RH)" (3/2015) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The attractive 2012 Chardonnay reminded me of Chardonnays from the 1970s and early 1980s. The wine was aged in French oak for eight months, but you would never know that from the aromatics and flavors. With delicate, crisp citrus, this fresh, lively, Chablis-like effort reveals a hint of minerality. (RP)" (10/2014) Wine Spectator: "Pure and clean, this is marked by zesty citrus, green p ...Read More »

2012 Nickel & Nickel "John C. Sullenger Vineyard" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Wine & Spirits: "The Sullenger Vineyard is located on the east side of Highway 29, on the edge of an alluvial fan that forms at the Mayacamas benchlands to the west. The clay-loam soils here built a finely structured cabernet in 2012, a wine with complex red fruit flavors that touch on plum, fresh pomegranate, rose hips and cherry pits. Gracious tannins contribute an earthy spice, maintaining a textural finesse that is neither abrasive nor slick. The tannins have the give of a fresh forest mushroom, a cushioned resilience that suggests this will age beautifully, developi ...Read More »

2013 Paul Lato "Lancelot—Pisoni Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

Though the current vintage has not yet been reviewed, the 2012 vintage garnered 94 points from Josh Raynolds in Antonio Galloni's Vinous: "Vibrant ruby color. Intensely perfumed aromas of black raspberry, cherry-cola, smoky minerals and potpourri. Juicy and nicely delineated, offering sweet red and dark berry flavors and a touch of spicecake. The floral note returns on the strikingly long, penetrating finish, which features a hint of blood orange, zesty minerality and smooth, slow-building tannins." (12/2014)
