2012 Clos Mogador Priorat (Pre-Arrival)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Clos Mogador is nothing short of spectacular. They started in 1999 with some Cariñena, and they gradually increased the Garnacha and reduced the Cabernet. 2012 is possibly the vintage of Mogador with less Cabernet, as it didn't behave well in such warm year. René Barbier senior tells me it reminds him of the freshness of the 2000 that he generously uncorked for me to compare; they only have a handful of bottles for the old vintages! The nose of this 2012 is still little reticent but not reduced like many vintages in the past, slowly showing a gr ...Read More »

2013 Sao del Coster "Pim Pam Poom" Priorat

One of the latest offerings from Priorat's Sao del Coster, this Garnacha based wine shows chewy red fruit flavors that betray admirable freshness, with a hint of macerated orange peel I frequently find in Spain's Mediterranean climate examples of Garnacha. This is not at all shy, but a great example of the intensity of flavor and beautiful fruit expression in the new era in Priorat. (Joe Manekin, K&L Spanish & Portuguese wine buyer)

2014 Alvaro Palacios "Camins del Priorat" Priorat

Alvaro Palacios is undoubtedly one of the architects and primary reasons for Priorat's elevation to premier fine wine region over the past 20 years. While it has certainly not always been a smooth ride for the region, Palacios' wines have garnered a following in Spain and abroad, amongst critics and collectors, for their generous fruit, polished tannin structure, and minerality. Camins is the winery's softer, entry level Priorat where the Garnacha and Cariñena base is supported by Cabernet, Syrah and Merlot. An ideal, fruit forward red to enjoy on its ow... Read More »

2009 Mas Martinet "Degustacio" Priorat

Mas Martinet's Sara Perez has quietly been at the forefront of Priorat's recent transformation. She was one of the earlier producers to recognize that these intensely flavored, Mediterranean reds do not need much in the way of ageing in new barrels, or fussing around in the cellar to create higher impact, more extracted wines. Rather, her wines underscore Priorat's terroir and show the focused, lovely fruit that it has to offer. In the "Degustació" bottling, juicy, generous mixed berry fruit flavors here beautifully show the quality of Sara Perez' Cariny... Read More »

2001 Rotllan Torra "Tirant" Priorat
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Rotllan Torra "Tirant" Priorat ((96-98RP), 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A prodigious effort, the 2001 Tirant is a 9,000-bottle cuvee made from 30% Grenache (90-100 years old), 25% Carignan (90-100 years old), 25% young vine Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Syrah, and 10% Merlot. Fermented in large oak foudres and aged 12 months in new French oak, it will be bottled with neither fining nor filtration. Inky/purple-colored to the rim, it boasts a spectacular bouquet of blueberries, blackberries, and the region’s classic crushed stone minerality. This full-throttle yet remarkably elegant 2001 possesses tremendous intensity and texture as well as layers of flavor, but comes across as not over the top, overripe, or overly heavy. The 60-second finish reveals more noticeable tannin than the other cuvees. Give it 1-2 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 10-15. The 2001 Tirant is indeed a special wine." (04/2004)

2002 Vall Llach, Priorat

93 points Robert Parker! He says, "The estate's flagship wine, the 2002 Vall Llach, is a blend of 50% old vine Carignan, 35% Merlot, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. A deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by lovely aromas of crushed blueberries, minerals, high class smoky oak, and acacia flowers. It possesses medium body, wonderful sweetness, beautiful fruit, and nicely integrated acidity and tannin. Consume it over the next 5-7 years. (6/30/2005)"

2000 Clos Manyetes Priorat

92-94 points from Stephen Tanzer! He says: 70% carignan, the rest cabernet sauvignon, grenache and syrah; yet another Priorato wine made by appellation pioneer Rene Barbier) Full ruby-red. Extravagantly ripe aromas of dark berry liqueur and spice cake. Dense and fat, with powerful fruit flavors of superb depth. A floral component and strong acids really give the wine inner-mouth perfume and lift. Shows almost dried-fruit flavors but retains freshness. Finishes very long, with fine tannins. Priorato produced a short crop in 2000, and it shows in the conce... Read More »

2003 Vall Llach Priorat

94 points Wine Spectator: "Cocoa, licorice, blueberry, mineral and floral notes mingle in this powerful and complex red. It has plenty of tannins, wood and alcohol, but all in balance. Dense and brooding now, it promises to sing with time. Best after 2007. 75 cases imported. (TM)" (11/2005)93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby-red. Perfumed aromas of dark berries, violet and pepper. Suave, seamless and impressively deep; this has a voluptuous texture and great finesse. Dark berry and bitter chocolate flavors offer compelling ripeness without coming off as heavy or overly sweet. Very long and ripe on the fi ...Read More »

1997 Rotllan Torra "Tirant" Priorat

95 points Wine Spectator: "Powerful and intense, this Spanish red is as ripe and rich as young Vintage Port, bursting with flavors of black cherries and blueberries, chocolate and coffee, supported by muscular yet round tannins. An impressive achievement in an age of blockbuster wines. Best after 2003. 500 cases made. (TM)" (6/2001)92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The superb, opaque purple-colored 1997 Tirant exhibits sweet, concentrated, jammy fruit intertwined with notions of asphalt, pepper, liquid minerals, and subtle spicy wood. A full-bodied, powerful effort, it requires 2-3 years of cellaring, but should la ...Read More »

1999 A. Palacios "L'Ermita" Priorat (1.5L)

94 points Wine Spectator: "*Cellar Selection* This big red draws you in with flavors of coffee, plum, blackberry and tobacco, then turns powerful on the palate, with muscular tannins and plenty of extract. It needs some time in the bottle, but will sing when it's tamed." (9/2002) 91-93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby. Reduced, musky aromas of raspberry, currant, mocha, menthol and game. Chewy and ripe, with excellent structure and acidity but less sheer density than the '98. Intensely flavored but not yet expressive. The tannins here come across as chewier and a bit tougher as there's not quite as much bu ...Read More »
