92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Chateau Musar, the flagship estate red, is the typical, roughly equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan and Cinsault, aged for 12 months in French oak. Adding a much needed layer of concentration to the Hochar also reviewed this issue, this also provides more focus and intensity, while still seeming to be a civilized Musar. Finishing with complexity, earthy nuances and a gamey hint, it is a relatively polished Musar that shows both finesse and flavor on the finish. 92 points Wine & Spirits: "A blend of 50 percent Cinsault with Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carignan, this comes off a vineyard planted 3,280 feet above sea level more than half a century ago. Eclectic blend of 35% Viognier, 35% Vermentino and 30% Chardonnay from Lebanon's venerable winery, Chateau Musar. Tasters typically note flavors of green apple, mango, and pineapple, while this vintage, according to the winery, turned out somewhat on the richer side, with mandarins, orange blossom and a full-bodied palate.
This distinctive, full-bodied white is made from 100% Merwah, a Lebanese varietal, in an oxidative style with a very complex aroma and flavor profile. Think of a three-way cross between Sherry, aged Rioja, and the amphorae-aged wines of the Republic of Georgia. It is best enjoyed with a savory meal, especially if the flavors veer towards the umami side of the spectrum. For adventurous palates!
