Erste e Neue is a highly revered co-op located high up in the Mediterranean Alps in the Alto Adige region of Northeast Italy, where it is primarily famous for producing racy, refreshing, and mineral-driven white wines from the varietals that thrive there. Lagrein is a relatively rare red grape indigenous to Alto Adige which is the offspring of the ancient variety Teroldego. Delicious pink wine, some of the first Nebbiolo rosé of the season. Pink like a perfect spring sunset. Pink like...an earthworm. Indeed, Proprietà Sperino, located in the historic district of Ori in northern Piedmont, also produces worm cast humus in its own production facility, Utilizing millions of Californian red earthworms. Serve cold.
Cantine Marisa Cuomo makes wines that capture the essense of the rugged beauty of the Amalfi Coast. This Rosato is 50% Piedirosso and 50% Aglianico from south-facing terraces set 100-250 meters above the sea on extremely rocky soil of dolomite and limestone.
90 points Antonio Galloni: "(a blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo Nero): Bright pink with an orange tinge. Complex aromas of strawberry, violet, botanical herbs and blood orange. Fresh and juicy, with tactile flavors of strawberry, fresh citrus fruit and pepper. Finishes with a hint of residual sweetness and outstanding lift. This is always one of Tuscany’s best rosato wines, and it’s no different this year." (5/2015)
