2012 Occidental (Kistler) "Occidental Station--SWK Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2012 Occidental (Kistler) "Occidental Station--SWK Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (98RP, 97AG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As good as the Cuvée Catherine is, there is another Occidental Pinot that is also profound. The 2012 Pinot Noir SWK Vineyard also comes from his 65 acres planted in Occidental. This is a 1,000-case cuvée from a site that sits above the Bodega Headlands Vineyard. With a dark ruby color like its siblings, it is made from 100% Calera and sees only about 30% new French oak. This wine offers a copious mouthful of red, blue and black fruits, medium to full body, terrific acidity, and intense black raspberry and black cherry fruit along with spring flowers, forest floor and spice box. This is a stunning, super-complex, compelling Pinot Noir to drink over the next decade or more." (01/2015)

2006 Frederic Esmonin Chambertin Clos de Beze
Bid on this 9-bottle lot of 2006 Frederic Esmonin Chambertin Clos de Beze. From the importer: "Esmonin is becoming one of the most consistent, high quality producers in Gevrey. They are now using a new bladder-press and have excellent control over the amount of pressure exerted on the grapes, which are picked only when they have reached ideal ripeness. After a short cold maceration gives the wines an extra dimension of fruit, they are aged in carefully selected French oak barrels of Allier and Nevers forest wood made by Radoux and Berthomieu, two of the very best coopers. Wines are aged in barrels of varying age and toast and then blended in order to achieve optimum balance and complexity." Frederic Esmonin on the 2006 Vintage: "Yields were “about the same as in 2005 with approximately a 10% loss due to hail. Sugars ranged from 12 to 13% and Burgundy lovers will find much to like as the wines are supple, round, approachable and fresh, indeed very terroir in character.” (Burghound, Jan

2008 Lucia "Garys' Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Lucia "Garys' Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir (96RP, 92WS, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The gorgeous 2008 Pinot Noir Garys’ Vineyard (with about 25% whole clusters and a slightly increased use of new French oak--50%) is great stuff. Dense ruby/purple-tinged with notes of plums, black cherry, black raspberry, and currant, with hints of graphite and subtle smoke, the wine is complex, fleshy, and exuberantly California in style, but with unmistakable Pinot Noir authenticity--richer, denser, and more velvety textured than almost any Burgundy that readers are likely to run across. With its long, fruit-filled, layered finish, the overall impression is one of voluptuousness and seduction. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. " (08/2010)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2009 Rhys "Alpine Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (95RP, 93BH, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard tends towards a dark red, almost black expression of wild cherries. It is an intensely coiled, powerful wine in need of a few years of cellaring. The mineral notes speak very clearly in this pointed, beautifully articulated Pinot. With time in the glass the wine’s inner perfume begins to emerge, but the best is years away. The chiseled, pure finish leaves a lasting impression. This is the most finely-knit, complete wine in the Rhys portfolio." (08/2012)

The considerable tannins will protect it in the cellar for a good 6-8 years, but it's so fresh and vibrant in cherries, red currants and oak-inspired red licorice that it's hard not to drink it now. Bid on this bottle of 1993 Emmanuel Rouget Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Cros Parantoux" (96RP, 95WS, 93BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I was reliably informed that Henri Jayer practically made the Cros Parantoux. Whether it was Henri or his nephew Emmanuel, this stands as a superb Pinot Noir that after twenty years is only beginning to show what it can do. The bouquet is jam-packed full of broody, dark berry fruit laced with minerals, whilst the tightly wound palate displays the concentration you would expect from a much warmer vintage. There is real structure here, exerting a grip that suggests it will need another four or five years or seriously long decanting to loosen up. There is wonderful sinew on the finish: a bold Cros Parantoux built like a shire horse for the long-term. Tasted May 2013. (NM)" (06/2013)

Layers of flavor build effortlessly to the rich, textured finish. The Reuling impresses with its energy, length and minerality. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard is the most virile wine in this lineup. Black cherries, mint, iron and crushed rocks come together in this dramatic, generous Pinot. The fleshiness of the fruit nearly covers the tannins, but they are lurking beneath the wine’s considerable fleshiness. Menthol, pine and a host of other dark, balsamic notes wrap around the insistent, powerful finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. (AG)" (08/2011)

Sweet, fleshy and deeply pitched, offering expansive black raspberry and spicecake flavors and a sexy floral pastille nuance. This attractive, elegant, medium to full-bodied 2011 is more evolved and fruit-forward than the 2009 or the perfect 2010. The 2011 will drink well for 8-12 years. (RP)" (12/2013)

2008 Rhys "Family Farm Vineyard" San Mateo County Pinot Noir
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2008 Rhys "Family Farm Vineyard" San Mateo County Pinot Noir (92BH, (89-91RP), 91ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*Outstanding* An attractively layered and fresh ripe red berry fruit and overtly floral nose offers excellent complexity that continues onto the rich but elegantly rendered medium-bodied flavors that possess a seductive texture and perfect balance on the lingering finish. This should age extremely well as everything is in perfect proportion...That the wines are of very high quality is evident but what is wonderfully refreshing is that the wines are also unique and original. Simply put, they are unlike any other pinots being crafted in California today. I hasten to point out that this is not because their methods are radically different (there are others who use very high percentages of whole cluster ferments along with natural yeasts). No, the difference is straightforward: it is because Harvey has chosen his vineyard sites with a keen eye and t

2009 Rivers-Marie "Silver Eagle Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Rivers-Marie "Silver Eagle Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. From Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown and his wife Genevieve Marie Welsh are the duo behind the impressive Rivers-Marie wines. Brown is one of this generation’s most exciting young winemakers. His early work with Helen Turley and his first consulting clients, including Schrader, is well-known, but what is less well-known is the number of other winemakers whom he has inspired, directly and indirectly. Brown’s winemaking is deeply influenced by his knowledge and passion for the historic California Cabernets and Pinots of decades past, and the great reds of Burgundy and Piedmont, a perspective that is not too common among younger winemakers. " (12/11) According to the winemaker's notes, they were excited that the 2009 "Silver Eagle" showed a bit of reduction: "The last bottle we opened we decanted, returned to bottle, left on the kitchen counter and drank 24 hours l

2001 Marcassin "Three Sisters" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Marcassin "Three Sisters" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir ((93-95RP), 93WS, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " The 2001 Pinot Noir Three Sisters Vineyard tastes as if it is a grand cru from the Cote de Nuits commune of Morey-St.-Denis. Sweet black cherries intermixed with autumnal compost and earth notes jump from the glass of this expansive, rich, full-bodied effort. It reminded me of a young 1985 Clos de Tart. The finish is pure cherry liqueur. (RP)" (08/2002)

2001 Domaine Groffier Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Domaine Groffier Bonnes Mares Grand Cru. This is very rich with lots of length on the palate, and very attractive bright cherry notes. It is surprisingly accessible and simply hangs around on your palate for an astonishingly long time. (Keith Wollenberg, K&L Burgundy Buyer) 89-92 Points Burghound: "(from a .97 ha parcel of 38 year old vines and 75% new wood). As young Bonnes Mares goes, this is unusually open and expressive with bright, fresh, very intense red and black fruit aromas framed by obvious toast notes and followed by harmonious, sappy, full-bodied, powerful flavors that are not especially precise but extremely long. The overall impression is supple, forward and easy though I suspect this will tighten up considerably after the mise." (Allen Meadows, Burghound.com) According to Clive Coates, "Full body. Very good grip. Lovely fruit. A little tannin but theses tannins are very well covered. Lots of depth here. And lots of class too. Excellent f

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Cobb "Rice Spivak Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (92ST, 91AG, 91RP, 90BH, 90W&S). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. Sexy aromas of candied red berries, cherry-cola, anise and fresh bay, with a hint of potpourri that gains strength with air. Juicy, penetrating raspberry and cherry flavors show increasing spiciness and weight as the wine opens in the glass. The finish strongly echoes the raspberry note and lingers with impressive clarity and persistence. This is balanced to age." (06/2011)

Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 2006 Chateau de la Tour Clos Vougeot Vieilles Vignes (OWC - 94BH, 93ST) in original wood. Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A background touch of wood is still in evidence on the spice, ripe and attractively fresh aromas of black cherry, spice, newly turned earth and a hint of dried flowers. There is ample punch to the quite serious, driving, well-detailed and superbly well-balanced concentrated and broad-shouldered flavors that are blessed with plenty of dry extract on powerful and explosively long finish. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Nuits-St-Georges "Aux Cras" (93BH, 90RP). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "As this terroir often does as it is one of the most elegant and sophisticated in all of Nuits, it has produced a gorgeously elegant red berry fruit nose suffused by an almost pungent minerality and saline character that continues onto the supple, fresh and vibrant medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent concentration and stunning if structured length. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru ((93-95BH), (92-94RP)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A pungent mix of wood spice, earth, red berry fruit, game, smoke and natural spice highlights the moderately sauvage character of the rich, full, refined and pure flavors underpinned by ripe and very firm tannins that culminate in an austere and very backward finish. This will require lots of cellar time to be at its best and like the Clos de Vougeot, this will be a long-distance runner." (01/2007)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Domaine Francois Bertheau Chambolle-Musigny "Les Amoureuses" (92BH, 92RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Animal and woodsy notes mingle with red fruits and holly in the nose of Bertheau's 2006 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses. Resinous, saline, and tar-like elements join on the fine-grained palate and follow into a long finish underlain by low-toned meaty and mossy flavors that crystallizes this wine's intrigue. I would give it 2-3 years of rest before savoring it over the subsequent half dozen. (DS)" (12/2009)

2006 Domaine Jean Grivot Richebourg Grand Cru
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2006 Domaine Jean Grivot Richebourg Grand Cru (96RP, 95WS, 94BH, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Grivot's 2006 Richebourg unsurprisingly displays a richness, meaty substantiality, and carnal depth that go beyond the other wines in his current collection. Peat, myriad tobaccos, black tea, roasted game, faded lilies, toasted praline, and dark fungal and forest floor elements kaleidoscopically scent the nose, and carry onto a sumptuously-, silkenly-textured, wet stone-lined, yet juicy, buoyant, and dynamic palate. While this wine is not about fruits and berries, it offers black cherries and purple plums to spare. The finish here perpetuates the seemingly paradoxical alliance of grip with levity; caress with vibrancy; and concentration with elegance that characterize many of the finest wines of the vintage. Grivot tasted it with me for the first time after bottling and remarked that he was amazed at what it had gained – not to mention how little if anythi

2001 Sine Qua Non "No 6" Yamhill County Pinot Noir
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Sine Qua Non "No 6" Yamhill County Pinot Noir (91ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good red-ruby. Complex nose combines red cherry, raspberry, woodsmoke and cinnamon. Sweet, silky and dense, with enticing flavors of strawberry and exotic spices. Remarkably large-scaled and generous for the year, and long and ripe on the back end, with suave, fine tannins. Oaky, but the wood element is successfully integrated. This reminded me of a Dujac Burgundy." (03/2004)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Paul Lato "Suerte - Solomon Hills Vineyard" Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir (94RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Pinot Noir Suerte Solomon Hills Vineyard is fabulous. It boasts tremendous richness and power in its rich, heady, dark fruit. This is a classic expression of Solomon Hills Pinot. Persistent saline notes underpin layers of juicy yet precise, nuanced fruit. The 90% new oak is a bit prominent, but the Suerte is striking juice all the same. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. (AG)" (08/2012)

2008 Rhys "Bearwallow" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Rhys "Bearwallow" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir (93BH, 92ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " *Outstanding* A deft, indeed almost invisible, touch of wood sets off even more complex aromas of spicy red pinot fruit and warm earth nuances that also suffuse the concentrated, intense and powerful big-bodied flavors that are supported by distinctly firm tannins and a much more overt sense of austerity on the strikingly long finish. This is built to age and will probably outlive the Home...The estate wines of Rhys Vineyards are made from biodynamically farmed fruit and owner Kevin Harvey and winemaker Jeff Brinkman continue to drive the wines to new heights. There are usually varying percentages of destemming but in 2008 there was none (as was also the case in 2007).
