2006 Frederic Esmonin Chambertin Clos de Beze
Bid on this 9-bottle lot of 2006 Frederic Esmonin Chambertin Clos de Beze. From the importer: "Esmonin is becoming one of the most consistent, high quality producers in Gevrey. They are now using a new bladder-press and have excellent control over the amount of pressure exerted on the grapes, which are picked only when they have reached ideal ripeness. After a short cold maceration gives the wines an extra dimension of fruit, they are aged in carefully selected French oak barrels of Allier and Nevers forest wood made by Radoux and Berthomieu, two of the very best coopers. Wines are aged in barrels of varying age and toast and then blended in order to achieve optimum balance and complexity." Frederic Esmonin on the 2006 Vintage: "Yields were “about the same as in 2005 with approximately a 10% loss due to hail. Sugars ranged from 12 to 13% and Burgundy lovers will find much to like as the wines are supple, round, approachable and fresh, indeed very terroir in character.” (Burghound, Jan

Unbelievably supple, round, subtle, refined and elegant, with the smoothest, ripest tannins in the world. Musky peach and citrus aromas offer good purity. Supple, silky and sweet, with citrus and mineral elements framing and lifting the ripe fruit flavors of apple and pear. Bid on this bottle of 1993 Emmanuel Rouget Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Cros Parantoux" (96RP, 95WS, 93BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I was reliably informed that Henri Jayer practically made the Cros Parantoux. Whether it was Henri or his nephew Emmanuel, this stands as a superb Pinot Noir that after twenty years is only beginning to show what it can do. The bouquet is jam-packed full of broody, dark berry fruit laced with minerals, whilst the tightly wound palate displays the concentration you would expect from a much warmer vintage. There is real structure here, exerting a grip that suggests it will need another four or five years or seriously long decanting to loosen up. There is wonderful sinew on the finish: a bold Cros Parantoux built like a shire horse for the long-term. Tasted May 2013. (NM)" (06/2013)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A discreet touch of wood sets off a ripe and gorgeously elegant, pure and expressive nose of intensely spicy blue pinot and dark berry fruit aromas trimmed in a soupçon of earth that is also reflected by the rich, full and strikingly precise flavors that are built on a base of minerality and culminating in a firm finish where the structural elements are well-buffered by the ample dry extract. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2000 Louis Latour Nuits-St-Georges. Have you been looking for older Burgundy and seen how little is available? In particular the 2000 vintage, which is drinking deliciously well, has become particularly hard to find. As the producer says of this wine: "An intense, deeply coloured wine, showing pronounced, complex fruit of cherries, blackcurrents and violets, with truffles and spices. Outstanding* A more complex and beautifully layered nose features aromas of ripe cassis, blueberry and bitter chocolate with a trace of roasted coffee that introduce stylish, pure and detailed flavors underpinned by obvious minerality and refined tannins that confer a silky texture onto the explosively long finish. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2002 Bouchard Pere & Fils La Romanée Grand Cru (OWC - 97RP, (94-97ST), 95BH) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A stellar wine, the 2002 La Romanee sports a gorgeous nose of violets, roses, spices, raspberries, and cherries. Medium to full-bodied, it is super-ripe, wonderfully elegant, fresh, pure, and exhibits an exceedingly long finish. Great velvety waves of candied red, bing, and black cherries dominate this decadent (yet refined) gem’s personality. Its tannin is perfectly ripe, sweet and syrupy, rendering the wine seamless and sensual. Wow! Projected maturity: 2009-2020. (PR) " (06/2004)

Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 2007 Château de la Tour Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes (OWC - 94BH, 93ST) in original wood. Like the regular cuvée, there is less youthful austerity here than I'm used to seeing with more overall depth of material. A terrific '07 but note that ample patience will be required." (01/2010)

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "High-pitched aromas of fresh peach, crushed stone, violet and lavender. Dense, sweet and rich, with very ripe pineapple fruit leavened by smoky minerality and given cut and focus by strong (4.5 g/l) acidity. Offers an uncanny combination of depth and high pitch for the vintage. The building, extremely long finish titillates the taste buds and leaves the mouth vibrating. Bid on this bottle of 2001 Domaine Groffier Bonnes Mares Grand Cru. This is very rich with lots of length on the palate, and very attractive bright cherry notes. It is surprisingly accessible and simply hangs around on your palate for an astonishingly long time. (Keith Wollenberg, K&L Burgundy Buyer) 89-92 Points Burghound: "(from a .97 ha parcel of 38 year old vines and 75% new wood). As young Bonnes Mares goes, this is unusually open and expressive with bright, fresh, very intense red and black fruit aromas framed by obvious toast notes and followed by harmonious, sappy, full-bodied, powerful flavors that are not especially precise but extremely long. The overall impression is supple, forward and easy though I suspect this will tighten up considerably after the mise." (Allen Meadows, Burghound.com) According to Clive Coates, "Full body. There is ample punch to the quite serious, driving, well-detailed and superbly well-balanced concentrated and broad-shouldered flavors that are blessed with plenty of dry extract on powerful and explosively long finish. Resinous, saline, and tar-like elements join on the fine-grained palate and follow into a long finish underlain by low-toned meaty and mossy flavors that crystallizes this wine's intrigue. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2006 Domaine Jean Grivot Richebourg Grand Cru (96RP, 95WS, 94BH, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Grivot's 2006 Richebourg unsurprisingly displays a richness, meaty substantiality, and carnal depth that go beyond the other wines in his current collection. Peat, myriad tobaccos, black tea, roasted game, faded lilies, toasted praline, and dark fungal and forest floor elements kaleidoscopically scent the nose, and carry onto a sumptuously-, silkenly-textured, wet stone-lined, yet juicy, buoyant, and dynamic palate. While this wine is not about fruits and berries, it offers black cherries and purple plums to spare. The finish here perpetuates the seemingly paradoxical alliance of grip with levity; caress with vibrancy; and concentration with elegance that characterize many of the finest wines of the vintage. Grivot tasted it with me for the first time after bottling and remarked that he was amazed at what it had gained – not to mention how little if anythi

Wine Spectator: "Elegant and beautifully poised between pure raspberry, cherry, wild berry, floral and mineral aromas and flavors and a vibrant structure. This graceful, linear red is very harmonious—deceptively so, in that you might want to drink it now. Needs a few years to gain complexity. Best from 2012 through 2025. " (04/2010)

2010 Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru ((92-94BH)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A cool, pure and ultra-elegant nose of very fresh stone-infused wild and ever-so-slightly sauvage red currant and cherry aromas gives way to rich and solidly well-concentrated medium-bodied flavors that brim with both mineral and dry extract. This balanced, long and overtly austere effort is a classic Latricières and should age like one as well." (01/2012)

2006 Domaine Groffier Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Domaine Groffier Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru (94ST, 92RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good bright, deep red. Knockout nose combines cherry, licorice, white pepper and flowers, plus a suggestion of crushed berries. Dense, sweet and sharply delineated, with an urgent, tangy quality to the flavors of red berries, spices and pepper. Another 2006 with outstanding energy and length. The wine's electric finishing notes of ginger and blood orange reminded me of a 2007, but the Groffiers' 2007 version of this cuvee seems yet riper. And this one may be longer. (ST)" (08/2009)

1961 Avery's Chambertin
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1961 Avery's Chambertin. Jancis Robinson: "Wonderfully sweet and jewel bright in colour and fruit quality. This was the last of three bottles out of 24 that Aidan Bell had opened. He brought it to the Southwold 2009 bordeaux tasting in memory of John Avery. It had almost certainly been made and bottled by Bourrée of Gevrey apparently. Its sweetness reminded Sebastian Payne MW of Gigondas. A glorious liquid even if not desperately like modern Chambertin. 2006 Domaine Louis Jadot Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru (1.5L)
Bid on this 2-magnum lot of 2006 Domaine Louis Jadot Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru (1.5L) (96ST, 95RP, 94BH). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, full red. Vibrant but brooding nose shows a medicinal austerity to the pungent aromas of raspberry, flowers and botanical herbs. Penetrating, high-pitched and brilliantly delineated, with uncanny energy and lift to the red berry, floral and mineral flavors. This saturates every square millimeter of the palate, then explodes with perfume on the expanding aftertaste. The overall impression is of pure soil-driven energy in a rather uncompromising style, but when I drank the second half of my bottle two days later with food, it showed a deep cherry flavor and compelling sweetness. Splendid Clos de Beze. (ST)" (03/2009)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche "Vieilles Vignes" (OWC - 92BH) in original wood. 92 points Allen Meadows: "Classic ruby. Highly complex and nuanced black cherry fruit aromas and fresh, damp earth notes lead to medium weight, sappy, refined flavors that display outstanding precision and superb length. This is ripe, pure and finishes with a very appealing stony quality to complement the outstanding persistence. There is solid structure and the finish is quite firm and this will require at least a decade to be at its best." (Burghound.com, 01/01/04)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2003 Faiveley Chambertin- Clos de Bèze Grand Cru ((93-96BH), 93ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " *Don't miss!* Notes of ripe plum, mocha, dark pinot fruit, earth, spice, a bit of wood and wet leather make for a potent and highly expressive nose that complements the massive, incredibly powerful and long flavors that have simply unbelievable intensity and that lovely natural sweetness of the finest burgundies. The flavors just explode in the mouth, displaying wonderful inner mouth perfume and dazzling texture and this literally lingers for minutes. This will one day be a monument and it will need years before it's completely ready so be prepared to have plenty of patience." (01/2005)

2006 Grivot Vosne Romanee 1er Cru Les Charmes
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Grivot Vosne Romanee 1er Cru Les Charmes. Wine Advocate: "'For me, the virtues of 2006 are freshness, reflection of terroir, minerality, and enormous vinosity. It is an accessible vintage,' says Etienne Grivot, quickly signifying that "accessible" should on no account be taken pejoratively, or as excluding cerebral appeal. His aim to reinforce these characteristics by very gentle extraction has proven highly successful....Incidentally, prices dropped a bit here in the 2006 vintage, an especially welcome move when one considers the high quality of the wines, not to mention the prestige of this estate." 2001 Jadot Chambertin Clos de Beze
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 Jadot Chambertin Clos de Beze (93BH, 90ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A gorgeously perfumed, highly complex and wonderfully spicy nose combines with hints of earth and mostly red berry fruit aromas that are beginning to display some secondary development. The broad-shouldered and solidly powerful flavors also reflect the same attractive depth as the nose with a lovely minerality and excellent definition before culminating in a long, sappy and impeccably well-balanced finish. While sufficiently mature to be enjoyable now, for my taste I would allow another 4 to 6 years of cellar time first. In sum, while there is good punch and power, this is essentially a Clos de Bèze of refinement and elegance." (07/2012)

Bid on this bottle of 2003 Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat, Romanée St. Vivant, Grand Cru ((91-93BH), 91ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An explosive nose of spice, clove, ginger, anise and tea nuances that serve to highlight elegant and refined ripe and black pinot fruit notes that are followed by classy, pure and powerfully deep and concentrated medium full flavors that retain immaculate balance and I particularly like the transparency here. This has huge length and there is upside potential here as there is so much extract that this may age even better than I imagine." (01/2005)

2005 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des 60 Ouvrées"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des 60 Ouvrées" ((92-94BH), 94RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Volnay Caillerets Clos des 60 Ouvrees (like the Clos d’Audinac and Clos de la Bousse d’Or, a monopole) features the oldest vines in the estate’s Volnay holdings, more than half of them planted in the mid fifties. Black cherry, purple plum, pistachio, ginger, and cumin inform the nose. On the palate this offers old vines creaminess, flattering glycerin, and yet also a persistently bright freshness of black fruits. A deep, lingering, faintly caramel-inflected bitter-sweetness, spice, and chalk further testifies to the concentration in this wine, which surpasses the Bousse d’Or in structure and gives it a hard run for its money in the charm department. Check on this in 8-10 years but then figure on another decade of improvement in the cellar. (DS)" (04/2007)

Bid on this bottle of 1999 Christophe Roumier Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru (90ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: " Full red-ruby. Fruit-driven aromas of black cherry, herbs and licorice. Juicy, fruity and aromatic in the mouth, but not as rich or dense as the Cras. Still, this is showing its fruit today, while the Cras is already starting to close down in bottle. This is all from old vines; the portion of the vineyard replanted to selection massale and clones in 1991 was included for the first time in 2000. (ST)" (05/2002)

2004 Louis Carillon Bienvenues Batard Montrachet
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2004 Louis Carillon Bienvenues Batard Montrachet (94BH, 93ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " An expansive, even airy nose of honeysuckle, pain grillé and apple butter combines with understated, pure and refined medium full flavors that culminate in a stunningly intense finish that displays a good deal more minerality than is typical. This is still very primary yet oozes class and refinement but even so it will clearly require a few years in bottle before it's really ready for prime time. A picture-perfect and classically styled Bienvenues." (07/2007)
