It’s flashy in complex tiers of raspberries, cherries, red currants, licorice, cocoa and cinnamon spice, yet is silky and dry. The fruit comes from Sonoma Coast, Green Valley and the Middle Reach. An impressive followup to the inaugural ’07, and a bottling to watch. " (09/2010)

Modeled on the wines of Provence’s Domaines Ott, this rosé was designed, says the winemaker, to age. It’s whole-cluster fermented from Grenache vines that have been picked and grown specifically to be a rosé—not a saignée. Compact, compressed and powerful with an emphasis on the mineral subtext, light peach and strawberry highlights. " (02/2011)

2008 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2008 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (99JS, 96WS, 94ST, 93RP). James Suckling: "Like listening to cool mellow rock 'n' roll. Extraordinary aromas of violets and dark fruits such as blueberries and currants. I can't get over the aromas here. Then it goes to minerals with just a hint of bay leaf. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins with a beautiful softness and beautifulness. I love the balance and harmony to this with bright acidity. I would drink this before the 2007. Just under 1,000 cases of 12 but all sold in threes. Reminds me of Leoville Las Cases but with Napa brightness. Enjoy or hold for a long time." (06/2011)

2008 Sine Qua Non "The Duel" Grenache
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Sine Qua Non "The Duel" Grenache (97RP, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Sine Qua Non’s 2008 Grenache Estate The Duel boasts extraordinary richness, power and sheer depth. Tobacco, leather, mint and spices are woven together in this large-scaled Grenache. There is plenty of intensity here, but the 2008 has just a touch less aromatic definition than the very finest wines at Sine Qua Non. I imagine some of that may be the result of extended aging in oak. The 2008 is 82% Grenache, 14% Syrah, 2% Viognier and 1% Roussanne, all from the Eleven Confessions Vineyard in Santa Rita Hills. A portion of the Grenache was fermented using whole clusters. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023. (AG)" (08/2012)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Syrah Cumulus Vineyard is impeccably silky and refined. Dark fruit, camphor, licorice, smoke and mocha flesh out in this gorgeous, delineated wine. The 2008 impresses for its length and persistence. Today, the 2008 is more refined and elegant than when I tasted it a year ago. The 2008 is 82% Syrah, 13.5% Grenache and 4.5% Roussanne (all destemmed) that spent approximately 32 months in French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023." (08/2012)

A full-bodied, unctuous Syrah that stays fresh and elegant, with vibrant acidity, it needs a solid decant if drinking anytime soon and will see its 20th birthday in fine form. Drink now-2028. Of the 2008 Ridge "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2008 Chardonnay Monte Bello emerges from the glass with layers of rich, varietal fruit supported by firm minerality and just a touch of French oak. The Monte Bello spends an additional three months in neutral oak and therefore also sees more stirring of the lees, yet it remains fresh, vibrant and beautifully focused all the way through to the finish. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Lucia "Garys' Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir (96RP, 92WS, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The gorgeous 2008 Pinot Noir Garys’ Vineyard (with about 25% whole clusters and a slightly increased use of new French oak--50%) is great stuff. Dense ruby/purple-tinged with notes of plums, black cherry, black raspberry, and currant, with hints of graphite and subtle smoke, the wine is complex, fleshy, and exuberantly California in style, but with unmistakable Pinot Noir authenticity--richer, denser, and more velvety textured than almost any Burgundy that readers are likely to run across. The considerable tannins will protect it in the cellar for a good 6-8 years, but it's so fresh and vibrant in cherries, red currants and oak-inspired red licorice that it's hard not to drink it now. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (98RP, 97WS, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 James Berry Vineyard (52% Grenache, 31% Mourvedre, and 17% Syrah) saw some of its Grenache aged in the concrete eggs that are now catching on among some of the top producers on California’s Central Coast. With strong minerality from the limestone soil, this exuberant, fleshy, full-bodied wine is already drinking well. (I believe it was actually bottled just a day or two before my visit, which makes its performance that much more remarkable.) Dense purple, with sweet notes of barbecue smoke and meats as well as roasted herbs, extravagant black cherry, black currant, and blackberry fruit are all present in this wine, but there is plenty of underlying structure that comes from both the minerality and the Mourvedre component. Pure, full-bodied, but again, impressively elegant and nuanced, this is a tour de force and another prodigious example of

Full-bodied, ripe and opulent, with a closed, formidable personality, it should be at its apogee between 2018 and 2035. 96+ (RP)" (06/2012)

This should age extremely well as everything is in perfect proportion...That the wines are of very high quality is evident but what is wonderfully refreshing is that the wines are also unique and original. Bid on this bottle of 2008 Sine Qua Non "B 20" Syrah (95RP, 94JS, 94ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Syrah B-20 is a cool, inward wine graced with layers of beautifully delineated, chiseled fruit. This is a distinctly mineral, precise style relative to the more outgoing 2009, but both are striking. Floral notes add lift as the finish turns explosive with a burst of dark fruit, tar, licorice and crushed rocks. This is one of the more understated wines readers are likely to come across from Sine Qua Non. It is gorgeous when given the time to open up. The B-20 is predominantly Syrah, with 6% Grenache and 2% Viognier. About half of the Grenache was fermented with whole clusters and the wine was aged in French oak (60% new) for 26 months. From a four-acre block in the Melville vineyard, it boasts an inky/purple color as well as a beautiful bouquet of spring flowers, blueberries, blackberries, graphite, and camphor, sensational concentration, a full-bodied mouthfeel, stunning purity and succulence, and a whoppingly long, seamless, 45-second finish. This is built to age and will probably outlive the Home...The estate wines of Rhys Vineyards are made from biodynamically farmed fruit and owner Kevin Harvey and winemaker Jeff Brinkman continue to drive the wines to new heights. Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2008 Ridge Vineyards "Geyserville" Russian River Valley Zinfandel (94CG, (90-92RP)). Connoisseurs Guide: "72% Zinfandel; 20% Carignane; 6% Petite Sirah; 2% Mataro. It has never been easy to regard Ridge's Geyserville bottlings simply as Zin, for, as once again is so evident here, they show a measure of depth and a degree of complexity rarely found in wines of the same name. Both rich and refined with sweeping impressions of red and black berries, sweet oak, briar, and just a touch of spiced candy, the wine exhibits remarkable energy and is never other than perfectly balanced. Its polish is sure to tempt many into drinking it now, but it has the pedigree and pieces in place to grow for years." (05/2010)

2008 Lucia "Susan's Hill Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Syrah
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2008 Lucia "Susan's Hill Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Syrah (94RP, 90ST, 90WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From the high elevation and poor soils of the Pisoni Vineyard, the 2008 Syrah Susan’s Hill was fermented with 25% stems, and aged in all French oak, of which 30% was new. Among the most backward of the 2008 Santa Lucia Highlands Syrahs I tasted, it exhibits noble sweetness in its charcoal-infused black currant and blackberry fruit. Notions of grilled meats, smoke, black tea, and flowers also emerge from this wine of exceptional intensity as well as full-bodied power. This harmonious, impressively endowed Syrah will benefit from another 1-2 years of bottle age, and should drink well over the following decade." (08/2010)

2008 Rivers-Marie "Summa Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Rivers-Marie "Summa Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (91ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good full medium red. Reticent nose hints at strawberry and loam. Then surprisingly sappy on the nose, with considerable weight and power to the very ripe red and orange fruits. This is chewy and dense almost in a 2007 style, but can't quite match the Occidental Ridge example for nuance. Finishes very ripe but firm-edged, in need of some patience." (06/2010)

2008 Lillian Central Coast Syrah (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2008 Lillian Central Coast Syrah (1.5L) (94ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Glass-staining purple. Deeply pitched aromas of black and blue fruits, incense, olive tapenade and fruitcake, with smoke and violet notes gaining power with air. Rich and broad but almost shockingly energetic, offering sweet, liqueur-like blackberry and boysenberry flavors and exotic spice and floral pastille qualities. Intense and focused on the extremely long finish, which strongly repeats the floral and spice notes. I had the chance to retaste the 2007 Lillian this fall, and while it appears to have closed down a bit since this time last year, it is still a complex, compelling and extremely alluring wine. As rich as it is, it doesn't come off as overblown or overtly decadent." (12/2011)

2008 Alban "Estate Vineyard" Edna Valley Grenache
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Alban "Estate Vineyard" Edna Valley Grenache (94RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Grenache presents an inward yet expressive core of dark red fruit, flowers and Provencal herbs. There is a gorgeous fleshiness in the glass, but the wine needs time to soften and open up. Today, the 2008 shows quite a bit of promise. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020. This is a fabulous set of wines from John and Lorraine Alban. Quite simply, I was blown away by what I tasted. As I noted last year, the whites are increasingly made in a more energetic style, not a bad thing as the fruit is already so expressive from the start. Over the years, a similar evolution has taken place with the reds. (AG)" (08/2012)

2008 Blankiet "Rive Droite" Napa Valley Red
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Blankiet "Rive Droite" Napa Valley Red (93RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Rive Droite Proprietary Red (68.5% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Franc, 7.5% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon; 320 cases produced) offers soaring, complex aromas of barbecue smoke, juicy black currants, chocolate-infused black cherries, mocha, camphor and incense are intense as well as persuasive. This opulent, full-bodied wine possesses good density and abundant complexity. It comes close in quality to the brilliant 2007. The precocious 2008 should continue to offer provocative drinking over the next 12-15 years." (12/2010)
