Louis Bouillot Cremant de Bourgogne "Perle d'Aurore" Brut Rosé Top Pick!
Louis Bouillot Cremant de Bourgogne "Perle d'Aurore" Brut Rosé

Wine & Spirits: "Gentle strawberry fruit fills this soft rosé, its zesty finish keeping it clean. A fine aperitif." (4/2014) Wine Enthusiast: "Full, ripe wine, layered with fruits and a dry, more mineral core. The wine has good depth of flavor, strawberries, red currants and a citrus cut that keeps the wine fresh at the end." (11/2013) K&L Notes: This delightful sparkling rosé wine comes from Burgundy. It is made of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Gamay Noir. The charming eye of the swan color comes from the addition of Pinot Noir to the wine when the lees are disgorged, following the traditional fermentation in... Read More »

2012 Maison Roche de Bellene "Vieilles Vignes" Bourgogne Rouge

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An attractively fresh nose of distinctly earthy red and dark currant aromas leads to precise, intense and utterly delicious middle weight flavors that possess better than average depth, length and balance for a wine at this level. Worth considering plus it should reward a few years of cellaring too if desired." (4/2014) Wine Enthusiast: "This fresh wine is all about fruit. Soft tannins and attractive strawberry flavors are lightly cut with acidity. Coming from vines between 50 and 60 years of age, it has some extra concentration. Drink this fragrant wine now." 2012 Domaine Faiveley Mercurey "Clos Rond" Top Pick!
2012 Domaine Faiveley Mercurey "Clos Rond"

The Mercurey Clos Rond comes from a single vineyard in Mercurey. The name means "the walled vineyard in that brambly area," derived from the local word "Ronde" instead of the more usual French "Ronce," meaning brambles. In a land where ownership is usually splintered, this vineyard is a rare case where the entire vineyard is under one owner, Domaine Faiveley. It lies on a gentle slope, with rich red-brown soil, a fairly high clay content and buried limestone beneath. The result is a Pinot Noir displaying rich, round fruit, both red and black, and just a ... Read More »

2012 Champy Bourgogne Pinot Noir "Signature" (Previously $20)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "There is just enough wood to notice framing the pretty mix of both red and dark berry fruit and soft earth aromas. The middle weight flavors possess good volume and a lovely sense of energy before terminating in a clean and dry, in the best sense, finish that displays a touch of youthful austerity. This should drink well young." (4/2014) K&L Notes: Lovely cherry fruit. This is done in 15% new oak. It is made from a mixture of estate-grown fruit and purchased grapes from a grower in Santenay with whom they work each vintage. It is bright, rich and open, with good co... Read More »

Worth considering for value." (4/2014) Jancis Robinson: "A touch of farmyard here, plus some bright, tasty herbal notes. Leathery and dark to finish. Paul Chollet Cremant de Bourgogne Rosé

This is made from 100% Pinot Noir, hand harvested and all whole cluster fermentation. This is careful, small scale wine-making, and the result is a rosé of distinction, without the usual high levels of sugar many use to mask their lower quality base wine. It has a pretty, pale color, which the French call "Oeil de Perdrix" (Eye of the Partridge) with notes of strawberries on the nose and an elegant finish. Bravo! 2013 Domaine Desertaux-Ferrand Bourgogne Rouge

Located in the heart of the vineyards of Burgundy, on the border of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, this estate was established in 1899 by Amable Désertaux. The area was then about three hectares. It was not until the arrival of Bernard and Janine Désertaux that it grew to 12 ha. The installation of their children, Christine and Vincent in 1995 and 2000, has resulted in some very fine wines, and as they still fly under the radar, these are very affordable, too! Lots of wine for an extremely modest sum.

2011 Jacques Bavard Monthelie Rouge

This exciting Pinot Noir comes from the picturesque village of Monthelie, located next to the more famous village of Volnay. It is from a tiny negociant in Puligny-Montrachet named Jacques Bavard. He comes from a long line of wine-growers, and is dedicated to working with organic and biodynamic growers. This comes from 30-year-old vines, and underwent a long cold soak to extract more aromatic elements. One is in Chorey-les-Beaune, just below Aloxe-Corton, in a lovely organically and biodynamically farmed vineyard called "Les Champs Long." Other fruit comes from Savigny-les-Beaune and Pernand-Vergelesses. The result is a lovely wine, with bright and charming fruit, a lovely mid-palate and a soft and pretty finish. The red wines are concentrated, with lovely color and red-fruit aromas; they are comp... Read More »

2012 Domaine Tollot-Beaut Bourgogne Rouge

Antonio Galloni: "The 2012 Bourgogne is a very pretty wine at its level. Delicate and floral on the palate, the 2012 is an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Sweet red berries, flowers and mint grace the soft, inviting finish. (AG)" (4/2015) Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*Outstanding top value* An exceptionally fresh and very pretty array of liqueur-like red berry fruit aromas is cut with earth and soft spice hints. 92-94 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2013 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts is a powerful, deep wine endowed with superb textural richness. Dark red cherry, plum, spice, licorice and new leather all find support in beams of underlying minerality that give the wine its energy and pulsating salinity. The Beaux Monts is shaping up to be a jewel." (4/2015) 91-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here there is a completely different aromatic profile with markedly more spice elements present that add breadth and a certain elegance to the primarily red and black pinot fruit nose though there are background hints of violet and lilac. I ver ...Read More »
