2014 Eric Cottat Sancerre $18.99
95 points Bob Campbell: "Deliciously restrained Sauvignon Blanc with mineral, citrus/pink grapefruit, and nutty lees/brioche characters. It has a great almost ethereal texture and plenty of weight and yet boasts tantalising purity. Very sophisticated Sauvignon Blanc with concentration and power. Tasted in a vertical line-up going back to the first vintage in 2004. This vintage earned top rating with 2013 although the earlier vintage is a an overtly fruitier and more accessible style. 2014 is probably a better food wine." (11/2014)93 points Raymond Chan: "Bright, pale straw-yellow colour with slight green ...Read More »
A bright clean appearance with fresh lime green hues. The bouquet shows pleasing aromas of grapefruit and white peach, with a floral lift. On the palate this medium-bodied, dry wine has a refreshing and moreish character. Mouthwatering acidity is balanced by an elegant, mineral finish. Sourced from a vareity of vineyards throughout Marlborough's various subregions: Wairau, Waihopai, Dillion's Point and Blenheim. An exceptional value in classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc!
We love these wines for their freshness, charm and affordability, and this is easily our best value Sancerre in the store. From soils of clay and chalk in the village of Bue near the Domaine. The Millet keeps you coming back for more. It is vinified entirely in stainless steel to preserve the wonderful citrus and slightly grassy aromatics and gentle mineral finish.
One of K&L's very finest buys from France. This is a reserve cuvée, made from Millet's chalkiest limestone soils. There is a long maceration at very low temperatures to extract as much flavor and character as possible. The resulting wine is intensely charged with stone fruit and minerality, with bright citrus notes. However, due to the amazingly warm vintage, it's quite soft, with layers of rich fruit.
Francois and Jean-Marie Cherrier with father Pierre produce steely and citrus-driven Sancerre from fine parcels of Sauvignon Blanc planted in Sancerre's silex (flint) and chalky soils. Yields are kept low and harvest is done strictly by hand before fermenting in 100% stainless steel. Vibrantly aromatic and mineral-driven, this is quintessential Sancerre. (Eric Story, Loire Buyer)
We can tell you this much: our Kalinda private label hooks you up with awesome wine at a fraction of what you'd otherwise pay for this exact same wine under its normal label. While we have to remain quiet about the source of this beauty, we can tell you that it sells elsewhere under the winery label at a much higher premium. Get it while it lasts.
Invigorating and fresh, with lemony citrus aromas and flavors accented by delicate white flowers. The palate is full and fresh, with balanced acidity and minerality on the finish. This a style of wine which keeps your palate fresh and alive. Although easy to drink, it has complexity and intrigue up and down the aromatic and palate. You'll be wanting another after the first one has disappeared. (Eric Story, Loire Buyer)
94 points Raymond Chan: "Bright, very pale straw colour with slight green hues, pale on rim. The nose is slender, taut and tightly bound, and delicate in its intensity, with aromas of passionfruit, white flowers, minerals and nettles forming a very fine and intricate array on bouquet. Dry to taste, tightly bound, penetrating flavours of lifted, vibrant and juicy passionfruit, lime and white flowers are enlivened by bright, softly ripe acidity and balanced by chalky mineral textures. The palate has excellent linearity and drive, the mouthfeel possessing vitality and raciness with ...Read More »
Honig sources fruit primarily from their sustainably farmed vineyard in Rutherford along with some other nearby vineyards. This blend is 93% Sauvignon Blanc and 6% Semillon, with 1% Muscat. Robert Parker offers in reference to the 2012 bottling: "This winery has a long and impressive track record working with Sauvignon Blanc and continues to produce a classic/textbook example of this varietal in Northern California." Cognizant is a new collaborative project between K&L and some of New Zealand's finest winemakers. "Cognizant" is defined as having an intimate grasp of knowledge through personal experience. This series of wines will pay homage to talented winemakers and their ability to capture the unique "sense of place" or "terroir" within their wines. The first wine being released under the Cognizant label was made by Jason and Anna Flowerday of TWR (Te Whare Ra) winery. The fruit comes from exceptional vineyards in both the Wairau and Awatere Valleys. 25% of the as... Read More »
95 points Bob Campbell: "Tight, pure, mineral-laced Sauvignon Blanc with citrus flavours infused with a faintly floral/wild flower character. The net effect is energy and precision. A backbone of steely acidity drives a lingering finish." (1/2015) 92-93 points Raymond Chan: "Bright pale straw colour with slight green hues, light edged. 94-96 points Raymond Chan: "This has layers of interest and an excellent clarity and freshness of expression... The mouthfeel is beautifully succulent and lusciously fine-featured, showing delicate phenolic textures alongside mouthwatering acidity. The poise, tension and balance is striking and delicious, and the palate leads to a very long and sustained finish with aromatic fruit and herb nuances. This is a beautifully refined, succulent and poised oak-influenced Sauvignon Blanc with complex detailing." 92 points Wine Spectator: "The fleshy peach and nectarine flavors are ripe, juicy and appealing, with fresh fennel, grapefruit zest, jasmine and mineral accents. Generous, supple and refreshing, presenting terrific intensity on the finish. Drink now. (Web-2015)"
Wine Enthusiast: "Dry, savory and richly steeped in oak, this SB has the markings of whole-cluster pressing and 3% Sémillon blended in, along with an inviting floral hum on the nose. The taste leans toward peach and grapefruit, zesty and alive." (10/2014) K&L Notes: From the winery: "Our 2013 Sauvignon Blanc was produced from grapes grown in various microclimates of the Napa Valley. The warmer Napa Valley microclimates give us grapes that result in wines with a lush, full melon/citrus character in the aroma and in the flavor. The cooler Napa Valley fruit provides a solid, crisp backbo... Read More »
Husch was founded in Anderson Valley in 1971, and is now run by some of the original Silicon Valley escapees--the family of Hugo Oswald Jr. had been farming pears in Santa Clara Valley and sold their property during the 1970s tech boom! Their Sauvignon Blanc has been a favorite with Husch fans since 1980. The 2014 was hand-picked, block by block over a period of three weeks, to get just the right tones of tropical, citrus and melon fruit, according to the winery's vintage notes: "Beautifully rich and crisp, this wine leaves your palate refreshed."
90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It is always with some degree of sentimentality when I taste Ferrari-Carano’s Fumé Blanc as this was my Mother’s favorite wine until she passed away in 2002. She even refused to eat at restaurants that didn’t carry it. The excellent 2013 Fumé Blanc exhibits plenty of honeyed melon, white peach, poached pear and other tropical fruit notes, underlying crisp acidity and a creamy, surprisingly flavorful mouthfeel. (RP)" (12/2014) Connoisseurs Guide: "*Good Value* A little on the light side yet nicely focused on the variety's green-toned potential, this wine is bright and somewhat ...Read More »

Bright, light, golden-straw colour with some depth. The nose is softly packed with layers of ripe green stonefruits, nectarines, greengages and pineapple, along with tropical fruits, melded with nutty and creamy barrel-ferment notes. Quarter Acre is a small project from highly acclaimed winemaker Rod Mcdonald. This tiny range of wines represent small productions for tiny vineyard parcels (hence Quarter Acre) from sites that he thinks have a unique expression of terroir. These are his most "edgy" wines that push the boundaries of non-interventionist winemaking in pursuit of purity and authenticity of place. This Sauvignon Blanc is a lovely illustration of the diversity of styles coming from New Zealand. These grapes were grown at vineyards in Maraekakaho and Tuki Tuki on terraces over... Read More »
From the winery: "These grapes were selected from vineyards in Marlborough’s Wairau Valley and the neighbouring Awatere Valley. Fast draining, alluvial loams over gravelly subsoils in these valleys provide ideal growing conditions for our Sauvignon Blanc....Aromas: Citrus and tropical fruits backed by characteristic herbaceous notes for which Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is renowned. Taste: An exuberant wine brimming with juicy acidity and fruit sweetness, providing a balanced flavour profile. The finish is fresh, zesty, and lingering."
Wine Enthusiast: "Fruity and slightly effervescent, this is a classic California Sauvignon Blanc. Balanced and lingering in crisp melon and tropical fruit, it provides enough creamy texture to go well with food." (2/2015) Wine Spectator: "This crisp white offers a distinctive mineral edge and floral details, set on a light and juicy body, with touches of pear, apple and citrus and a lingering finish." (6/2015) K&L Notes: Quivira's Sauvignon Blanc is a classically styled Sonoma white that delivers an excellent experience at a refreshingly modest price. Primarily sourced from their biodynamically farmed e... Read More »

(LPB)" (10/2013) Wine Spectator: "Mouthwatering, with tangerine and melon flavors that mingle with the crisp lemon-lime core on a light, tangy body." (7/2014)

95 points James Halliday: "*Special Value Selection* Light straw-green; a complex blend with considerable presence and attitude from the first whiff to the conclusion of the long, multi-flavoured and multi-textured palate; a small left field component was wild-fermented in stainless steel barrels. It is the overall intensity of the wine that really grabs attention, engineered by the way the flavours build across the palate."
91 points Bob Campbell: "Quite a weighty Sauvignon Blanc with apple, grapefruit, nectarine and currant bud flavours. Richly textured with pleasantly peppery tannins." (12/2014) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Annabel Sauvignon Blanc has invigorating grapefruit, mandarin peel and lemon zest scents with a hint of wild thyme. Margerum Wine Company has long been a favorite of K&L. Doug Margerum, owner and director of winemaking, started out on the retail side of things. He and his family opened Wine Cask in Santa Barbara in 1981 and spent more than a decade building a fantastic wine shop and bistro. During much of that time, Doug was also building an amazing wine company. Margerum Wines are fantastically balanced and go beautifully with food. They are pure and clean, showing off the beautiful fruit from around Santa Barbara County. We were lucky enough to get the opportunity t... Read More »

93 points James Suckling: "The nose on this is phenomenal, with intense sliced peaches. Full body and loads of fruit with a long flavorful finish. Drink now." (12/2011)93 points Wine & Spirits: "This grows on a terrace above the north bank of the Isonzo river, where the soils are well-drained gravel and clay. The temperate 2009 vintage created a robust young sauvignon, structured as a grand and age-worthy wine. The texture is supple, carrying pungent fruit scents of pear and nectarine; the finish meshes that fruit with an earthier note. Delicious with veal schnitzel now or after several years in the cellar. ...Read More »
From the winery: "The 2014 Sauvignon Blanc exhibits a vivid varietal characteristic that is rooted in our estate Margarita Vineyard. It is showing vibrant aromas of gooseberry, guava, and grapefruit with a hint of jasmine. A rounded texture offers tropical flavors of pineapple and melon, all seamlessly woven with complementary citrus notes. Suggestions of lime zest and mineral linger on a crisp, focused finish. This Sauvignon Blanc is a fine match for oysters, crab cakes, pan-seared Dover sole, lemon-herb chicken and grilled corn salad."
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The biggest cuvée is the 20,100 cases of their 2013 Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma, which comes from their estate vineyards in Bennett Valley. This is blended with about 5.5% Sauvignon and has almost 22% of the Musqué Clone, which gives the wine more tropical and exotic characteristics. The wine is dry, delicious, and offers up notes of honeyed figs, exotic melons, fresh acids and crisp lemon blossom with a touch or orange skin. It’s quite refreshing, medium-bodied and beautifully fruited. Drink it over the next several years. (RP)" (12/2014)
90 points Wine & Spirits: "A crisp, clean sauvignon with searing acidity, this wine layers citrus notes over green apple and white cranberry flavors. Even so, it’s more subdued in its fruit than many of the wines from Marlborough, more about a tight structure carrying its fruit flavor and extending its length. Pour it with pan-roasted skate." (2/2015) Wine Spectator: "A flinty, crushed rock note forms the core, surrounded by crisp lemon and green apple flavors, accented by a whiff of white pepper and white flowers. Shows good precision and focus, with a surge of acidity on the finish." (10/2014) K&L Notes: 90-92... Read More »
Morgan Peterson of Bedrock Wine Company has always been a favorite of the staff here at K&L wines. When he started the Shebang! label, we thought it was a fantastic wine at a great price. The red wine has done very well for us and our customers have been happy with the quality and price over the last seven years. I recently tasted the just-released Cuvee III Sauvignon Blanc and thought we should bring this in as well. As with the red, this wine over-delivers for the price. The wine is a blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc mostly from 30 year old dry farmed vin... Read More »
According to the winery: "Our Santa Ynez Valley Sauvignon Blanc, a perennial favorite, is sourced from our own estate vineyard in Los Olivos, as well as a number of other carefully farmed vineyards within the Santa Ynez Valley AVA. 2014 marks the 38th consecutive vintage for this remarkable value, and this bottle is the result of Fred Brander’s extensive experience and winemaking prowess. Rich, plush, and brimming with an almost tropical exuberance, this wine leads with a nose of lychee nut, honeydew melon, hibiscus blossom and wet stone, while flavors o... Read More »
94 points James Halliday: "A 58% (Sauvignon Blanc) 42% (Semillon blend) machine harvested at night; most cold - fermented in stainless steel, with 7% of the blend fermented in new and used French barriques. There is an array of citrus and tropical fruit aromas and flavours, but it is the electricity of the intense palate that is the defining feature of the wine." K&L Notes: Cape Mentelle takes a minimal approach towards this classic Margaret River blend. The aim is to preserve as much fruit intensity and regional character as possible, whilst providing a full-flavored and distinctive white win... Read More »

According to the winery: "In 2014 our main goal with Sauvignon Blanc was simply to make a worthy follow up to its wildly popular predecessor. Given the quality of 2013, not an easy task. The vintage fortunately blessed us with the conditions to do so and we are proud to offer this version. We again worked with the same vineyards in the Russian River and Dry Creek Valleys to craft a medium bodied, brisk, and eminently crowd pleasing wine. Our vineyard sources have vines ranging from 10 to 32 years old and a feature a variety of clonal selections. As in ye... Read More »

(10/2014) Connoisseurs Guide: "It would be hard to imagine that Sauvignon Blanc could be any fresher and more buoyant than this one, but, such virtues aside, the wine is very simple and more candied than keenly fruity at this point, and its whispered hints of green herbs and grass are not hard to miss."
