French Wine

When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its regions, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and occasionally as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a 100 lives. To understand and appreciate French wine, you only need to begin tasting them. Check out some of the top picks that our buyers have tracked down - several of these wines are imported directly from France.

2000 La Gomerie, St-Emilion
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2000 La Gomerie, St-Emilion (96RP, 92ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Two recent tastings of the 2000 La Gomerie both reinforced my comments of seven years ago. An interesting thing about this 100% Merlot is how well it ages. Perhaps it deserves more attention. Its dense purple color is followed by a beautiful perfume of spring flowers, creme de cassis, jammy black cherries, licorice, graphite, and espresso roast. Full-bodied, deep, superbly concentrated, pure, long, and made in a modern style, it should drink well for another decade. (RP)" (06/2010)

2005 Clos de Sarpe, St-Emilion
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Clos de Sarpe, St-Emilion (95RP, (89-92ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Clearly a wine made for future generations, Clos de Sarpe, with its tendency for tiny yields of under 25 hectoliters per hectare, has fashioned a 1,000 case blend of 85% Merlot and the rest old vine Cabernet Franc. Over recent vintages, this wine has been among the most concentrated and formidably tannic and backward made in Bordeaux. A claret for those with 19th century tastes, it offers good purity, ripe tannin, and an extraordinary display of concentration, extract, power, and tannic clout. The 2005 is a mammoth yet incredibly well-balanced St.-Emilion that represents an anomaly in modern day winemaking. It is a pleasure to see a proprietor push the envelope and create a wine that will be appreciated for 40-50 years. Classic sweet black cherry, licorice, roasted herb, and underbrush characteristics are present in this formidable, full-bodied, powerful wine. 95+ points. (RP)"

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Frédéric Esmonin Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Lavaux St-Jacques" ((89-92BH), 91WS, 90ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " *Outstanding* A background touch of wood frames the very ripe though still elegant upper register red Pinot fruit aromas that give way to full, sweet and somewhat bigger and more robust medium plus weight flavors that offer good depth if less overall finesse. There is more muscle and punch here and this is very Gevrey in character and style. Very solid quality and also recommended." (01/2007)

1989 Latour Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1989 Latour Pauillac (94WS). Wine Spectator: "This is so decadent and exciting on the nose, with very ripe fruit, tobacco, meat and cedar. Full-bodied, offering amazing raspberry fruit in the core of the palate. Ultrapolished, velvety tannins wonderfully coat every inch of your palate. This will age for years ahead, but it's so lovely now. Much better than many people think. (Web Only—2010)"

Wine Enthusiast: " *Editors' Choice* One of the big names of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and this wine justifies the fame of the Perrin family’s property. It is a rich style, but, more importantly, it is beautifully made, structured, dense, with red jelly fruits, a touch of vanilla and a fat, full-bodied, but firm aftertaste. This is a wine for aging—give it at least five years before touching it. " (12/2005)

2009 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 2009 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (100RP, 98JS, 96ST, 96WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An amazing wine in every sense, this classic, full-bodied Pauillac is the quintessential Pontet Canet from proprietor Alfred Tesseron, who continues to reduce yields and farms his vineyards biodynamically a rarity in Bordeaux. Black as a moonless night, the 2009 Pontet Canet offers up notes of incense, graphite, smoke, licorice, creme de cassis and blackberries. A wine of irrefutable purity, laser-like precision, colossal weight and richness, and sensational freshness, this is a tour de force in winemaking that is capable of lasting 50 or more years. The tannins are elevated, but they are sweet and beautifully integrated as are the acidity, wood and alcohol (which must be in excess of 14%). This vineyard, which is situated on the high plateau of Pauillac adjacent to Mouton Rothschild, appears to have done everything perfectly in 2009. This cuvee should shut down in the cellar an

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Pape-Clément, Pessac-Léognan (95RP, 94ST, 91JS, (89-91WE), 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the top successes of the vintage, this blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot was harvested between October 8 and 24. The late harvest ensured perfect ripeness as evidenced by the sweet bouquet of black cherries, lead pencil shavings, cassis and subtle barbecue smoke. Well-balanced with good acidity, ripe tannins, medium to full body and a layered mouthfeel, this excellent 2008 can be drunk now and over the next 15+ years." (05/2011)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2000 Sociando Mallet, Haut-Médoc (93ST, 92RP, 91WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby-red. Rich, perfumed aromas of black raspberry, blackberry, minerals and cocoa powder. Big, dense, lush and deep, but with lovely sappy vinosity; this expands impressively to fill the mouth. Finishes very long, with suave, broad tannins and a note of black olive. A gloriously successful vintage for Sociando-Mallet, offering a full range of cabernet aromatics." (05/2003)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A spectacular effort from this estate rivaling their 2005, but more flashy/flamboyant, this dark ruby/purple wine has a strikingly intense nose of licorice, flowers, plums and dark berries. Medium to full-bodied, very approachable and silky, this suave, very sexy wine can be drunk early on as well as aged for 20+ years. (RP)" (02/2012)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A big time sleeper of the vintage and a terrific success for Fieuzal, the 2008 is a wine to buy given its realistic price. Dense plum/purple-colored with a soaring bouquet of blue and black fruits, unsmoked cigar tobacco, lead pencil shavings and spring flowers, it is a suave, savory, medium to full-bodied, remarkably silky, appealing wine to enjoy over the next 12-15 years. Good cut on the finish offsets the richness nicely. Best from 2012 through 2019." (10/2011)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine du Bouscat "Portes de I'Am," Bordeaux Supérieur (94RP, 92ST, 91JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Slightly lower key (only 15.4% natural alcohol) is the 2009 Les Portes de l'Am, a blend from Bouscat’s best vineyard parcel consisting of 50% Merlot and the rest equal parts Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Densely opaque purple, with notes of incense, acacia flowers, blackberries and cassis, this is a sensational wine that could easily be a grand cru classe. All of it was made and aged in 320-liter demi-muids and bottled with very little SO2, although some was used. This is an amazing effort that needs to be tasted to be believed. Anticipated maturity: now-2020. These are all exclusives of the American broker/negociant Jeffrey M. Davies. There are three cuvees, with the Caduce replacing what was simply called their Cuvee Classique. This is a major over-achieving, 20-acre, south-facing hillside vineyard just in the shadow of Fronsac. 2009 Gazin, Pomerol
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Gazin, Pomerol (96RP, 95JS, 93WS, 92WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A big, powerful, masculine Pomerol with a style not dissimilar from Le Gay, the dense purple-colored 2009 Gazin exhibits black currant, black cherry liqueur, coffee, roasted herb, an exotic Asian spice component, vanillin, creme caramel and toasty oak in its aromatics and flavors. From a vineyard near Petrus, Le Gay and La Fleur Petrus, it is full-bodied with licorice, earth, truffle and creme de cassis in the mouth. Give this powerful, backward 2009 an additional 6-8 years of cellaring and drink it over the following three decades. " (02/2012)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A stunning sleeper of the vintage, this beautiful, already irresistible, plum/garnet-colored 2008 is a wine to purchase by the case. It possesses a dense plum/purple color, a glorious perfume of Christmas fruitcake, cedarwood, black currants, jammy cherries and licorice, medium to full body and a silky personality. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2009 Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Pauillac (95JS, 95RP, 93WE, 93WS, (88-91ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Performing better from bottle than it did from cask (and comparable to their wines 2005, 2000, 1990 and 1982), this is a great classic from Xavier Borie's estate situated on the back roads west of the town of Pauillac. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by hints of spring flowers, crushed rocks, black currants, cedar and earth/underbrush. Precise and elegant as well as backward and foreboding, it should put on weight in the bottle and evolve for two decades. Very concentrated as well as velvety-textured, it is a beauty of finesse, balance, purity and nobility. It will benefit from 5-7 more years of bottle age. (RP)" (02/2012)

Butterscotch and vanilla with hints of ripe apples; full-bodied, with lots of sweetness and a spicy apricot and honey aftertaste. Excellent concentration and balance. Full-bodied and pure with sweet tannin, this is an under-the-radar, high quality claret to drink over the next 20-25 years. (RP)" (02/2012)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2009 Gruaud Larose, St-Julien (95JS, 95RP, 94ST, 93WE, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As I wrote in my barrel tasting note, the 2009 appears to be the finest Gruaud Larose since their 1990. Some of my concerns about too much brett in previous vintages are long gone as the purity of the 2009 jumps out. Copious notes of sagebrush, cedar, cigar box, licorice, incense, blackberries and lead pencil shavings suggest a big Pauillac rather than a St.-Julien. Broad, rich and full-bodied with good balance and abundant, but sweet, well-integrated tannin, this big, masculine Gruaud Larose reveals remarkable finesse, richness, extract, density and a cascade of fruit that nearly hides the lofty tannins. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2009 La Gaffelière, St-Emilion (95RP, 94WE, (89-92ST), 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An absolutely spectacular effort, the 2009 is one of the all-time great La Gaffelieres produced. One would have to go back to the 2005, 1947 or 1961 to find this level of quality from this ancient, historic vineyard planted adjacent to the walls of St.-Emilion, on the Cote Pavie. Dating back to the 1400s, this estate has been owned for over three centuries by the Malet-Roquefort family. Composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon (in the past it was two-thirds Merlot and the rest split between Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc), the 2009 reveals compelling elegance, tremendous intensity and opulence and more viscosity than one normally sees. The outstanding, sexy, full-bodied 2005 is a 5,000-case blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. 1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (95RP, 95ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled in June, 1997, this profound Mouton is more accessible than the more muscular 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Merlot, it reveals an opaque purple color, and reluctant aromas of cassis, truffles, coffee, licorice, and spice. In the mouth, the wine is "great stuff," with superb density, a full-bodied personality, rich mid-palate, and a layered, profound finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. There is outstanding purity and high tannin, but my instincts suggest this wine is lower in acidity and slightly fleshier than the brawnier, bigger 1996. Both are great efforts from Mouton-Rothschild." (02/1998)

Bid on this bottle of 1982 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (97RP, 96AG, 96JS, 95ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is a denser version of the 1990 that stylistically reminds me of what the young 1959 probably tasted like. Still backward with a deep ruby/plum color revealing only a touch of lightening at the edge, the wine offers up an extraordinary nose of caramelized herbs, smoke, cedar, pen ink, black currants, and earth. The gorgeous aromatics are followed by a full-bodied, plump, rich, fleshy wine with low acidity. With 6-8 hours decanting in a closed decanter, it will offer beautiful drinking, but it needs another 5-8 years to reach full maturity. It is capable of lasting 50-60 years. (97+) (RP)" (06/2009)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac (OWC - 95RP, 94WE, 93ST, 92JS, 91WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A sleeper of the vintage, the 2008 Pichon Longueville Baron is one of the densest, most concentrated wines of Pauillac in 2008. An inky/purple color is followed by aromas and flavors of creme de cassis, blackberries, charcoal, coffee and licorice. Exceptionally full-bodied with velvety tannins and undeniable appeal, this gorgeous, well-proportioned, larger than life 2008 should age effortlessly for two decades or more. (RP)" (05/2011)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2004 Domaine Joseph Roty Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru "Très Vieilles Vignes" (94ST, 92BH). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red. Captivating aromas of dark raspberry, licorice, underbrush and truffle. Supple, silky and sweet, with uncanny depth for a wine from this vintage. Highly concentrated flavors of cherry, spice and black licorice; really fat with sweet fruit, and distinctly fruitier today than the Griottes. Broad and full but with zero heaviness. Very long finishing flavors of spice and licorice. An incredible performance in the context of the year. And structured to last. " (03/2007)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2003 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape (98RP, 97WS, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A great bottle and showing the hallmark elegance of the estate, the 2003 Clos des Papes Chateauneuf du Pape offers up a kirsch liqueur, liquid flower, red licorice and spice-box driven bouquet along with a full-bodied, seamless, silky profile on the palate. Still beautifully put together and aging gracefully, with a core of sweet fruit, it is certainly drinking well now, yet should continue to hold and drink nicely through 2020. (RP)" (06/2013)

2005 Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur Richebourg Grand Cru
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur Richebourg Grand Cru (95ST, 94BH). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "8 barrels made, vs. a normal 11 or 12) Full red-ruby, not quite as dark as the other grand crus at this address. Reticent but wild nose hints at black raspberry, minerals and game. At once powerful and suave, with terrific inner-palate tension and sneaky intensity of dark fruit and violet flavor. Finishes impressively long, with thoroughly buffered, fine-grained tannins. Gros prefers wines that combine power and roundness, and he ventured the opinion that only grand crus can give the sweetness with strength that he prizes." (03/2007)

Full body, with rich ripe tannins, with a silky texture. It is dense and powerful. Long and rich. Better in 2016. Best second wine of Haut-Brion ever? Full-bodied, with superfine tannins and a fresh, clean finish. Long and tight. Racy. Lovely texture. 60 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 25 percent Merlot and 15 percent Petit Verdot. 2008 Larcis Ducasse, St-Emilion
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Larcis Ducasse, St-Emilion (93JS, 93RP, 91WE, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Larcis Ducasse...is composed of 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc. Although closed at present and less prodigious than I predicted two years ago, it reveals an opaque purple color, plenty of sweet fruitcake, black currant, kirsch, forest floor and earthy characteristics, a full-bodied mouthfeel, sweet tannins and a long finish. It just does not appear to have the extra gear or two I tasted from barrel. Nevertheless, it is an outstanding wine and if it is priced fairly, it should be a definite purchase to enjoy over the next 20+ years. (RP)" (05/2011)

2009 Les Pagodes de Cos, St-Estèphe
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2009 Les Pagodes de Cos, St-Estèphe (94RP, 93JS, 93WE, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The brilliant 2009 Les Pagodes de Cos actually has more Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend than the grand vin (69% versus 65%) in addition to mostly Merlot and a small quantity of Petit Verdot. As powerful as the Cos in terms of alcoholic clout (14.5%), the full-bodied, round, generous Les Pagodes de Cos exhibits lots of creme de cassis and floral notes intermixed with hints of wood/barrique and spice. Juicy, succulent and remarkably fresh and well-delineated, it merits considerable attention from consumers. It should drink well for 15-20 years. Oddly enough, the second wine is superior to many vintages of Cos in the 1960s 1970s and 1980s! (RP)" (02/2012)

Should flesh out a bit more with cellaring. Best from 2014 through 2030." (03/2012)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2010 Malescot-St-Exupéry, Margaux (95JS, 95RP, (92-94WE), 94WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Gorgeous, flowery, classic Margaux once again, the 2010 Malescot St.-Exupery continues to show virtually no toasty oak, given the impeccable balance and full-bodied, full-throttle style it possesses. Black raspberries, creme de cassis and spring floral notes intermixed with forest floor and a hint of charcoal are followed by an opulent, sexy, full-bodied wine whose tannins have become much sweeter, while the wine is less restrained yet still exuberant and impressive. This is a phenomenal example once again for this estate, harmonious in every sense of style, extraordinarily long, rich and ageworthy. Intense, full-bodied, and deep, with fabulous purity, texture, and freshness as well as a 40+ second finish, this may be the finest Moulin-St.-Georges Vauthier has yet produced. Bid on this bottle of 2000 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (97RP, 96WS, 95JS, 95WE, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beginning to open magnificently, the still dense purple-colored 2000 reveals a blossoming bouquet of blackberries, cassis, graphite and pen ink. Full-bodied with velvety tannins that have resolved themselves beautifully over the last eleven years, this wine is still an adolescent, but it exhibits admirable purity, texture, mouthfeel and power combined with elegance. Bid on this bottle of 2011 Domaine Joseph Drouhin Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru ((92-94BH), 92RP, (90-92ST)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is very reduced though there is good freshness and verve to the notably rich and generous medium-bodied flavors that display enough minerality to add lift to the taut and muscular finish that packs plenty of punch but not rusticity. This is markedly austere and exceptionally serious and I would also describe this as very old school. I would advise buying this only with the intention of cellaring it for the long-term." Bid on this bottle of 1997 d'Yquem, Sauternes (96RP, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A sensational Yquem, 1997 may be this estate's finest effort since 1990 (although I would not discount the 1996 turning out to be nearly as good). The 1997's light gold color is accompanied a gorgeous perfume of caramel, honeysuckle, peach, apricot, and smoky wood. Full-bodied and unctuously-textured, with good underlying acidity as well as loads of sweetness and glycerin, it looks to be a great vintage for this renowned Sauternes estate. Very complex and full-bodied, with lively acidity and beautiful clove honey, red apple and lemon flavors. Long, balanced and very lively. A massive white. Layered and beautiful. 2009 Fleur Cardinale, St-Emilion
Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2009 Fleur Cardinale, St-Emilion (94RP, 93JS, 93WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A good value among over-achieving St.-Emilion estates is La Fleur Cardinale’s 2009. Composed of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, some of the abrasive tannins noticeable early on in this big wine (14.5% alcohol) are now sweeter and better integrated. Made from tiny yields of 30 hectoliters per hectare, this is a concentrated, rich effort revealing lots of black cherry and black currant fruit as well as a fragrant, firm, full-bodied personality. It should be at its best between 2016 and 2030. (RP)" (02/2012)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Larcis Ducasse, St-Emilion (98RP, 97JS, 94ST, 94WS, (89-91WE)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The wine boasts 14.6% natural alcohol and is a final blend of roughly three-fourths Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc, cropped at a ridiculously low 19 hectoliters per hectare. Notes of licorice, garrigue, incense, smoked meats, espresso, creme de cassis and blackberry liqueur jump from the glass of this unbelievably intense wine. Remarkably full, with compelling freshness and precision, this is a fabulous effort in 2010. It will probably close down over the next several years, and not re-emerge for at least a decade, something that often happens with the bigger, richer, more muscular St.-Emilions from the limestone hillsides and plateaux. This is one of the superstars of the vintage and a profound wine. Drink it between 2020 and 2045. (RP) 98+" (02/2013)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The finest wine yet made by this estate run by Stephane Derenoncourt's wife, Christine, this blend of 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc tips the scales at 14+% alcohol. It exhibits copious aromas of blueberries, raspberries, asphalt, truffles, charcoal and a hint of graphite. Full-bodied and powerful with low acidity, excellent freshness and precision, and deep, glycerin-imbued, high octane flavors, the vintage’s tell-tale voluptuousness and opulence are nicely wedded to a sense of freshness and delineation. Only about 500 cases of this 100% Merlot are made. With notes of blueberry and blackberry liqueur intermixed with graphite and spring flowers, this wine is absolutely massive and not for everybody, but it is an example of what a conscientious and driven producer pushing the envelope can do in a satellite appellation such as Lalande de Pomerol. Intense, deep aromas of ripe citrus, kiwi and guava are complicated by marmaladey smoky botrytis and a touch of honeyed mango, decadent notes that are rare in 2011 Sauternes. Very rich in the mouth, displaying extremely pure tropical fruit and acacia honey flavors that are given clarity and cut by harmonious acidith. Finishes very long and pure, with uncanny freshness that keeps this opulent wine light on its feet. This is far richer than most other 2011 Sauternes yet retains the vintage's freshness and crispness. Just three tries were carried out this year and the first one was done essentially to remove dirty, unhealthy-looking grapes. This is the best young Suduiraut of the last 15 years." (08/2012)

1982 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1982 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (100JS, 100RP, 98ST, 98WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine remains one of the legends of Bordeaux. It has thrown off the backward, youthful style that existed during its first 25 years of life, and over the last 4-5 years has developed such secondary nuances as cedar and spice box. The creme de cassis, underlying floral note, full-bodied power, extraordinary purity, multilayered texture, and finish of over a minute are a showcase for what this Chateau accomplished in 1982. The wine is still amazingly youthful, vibrant, and pure. It appears capable of remaining fruity and vibrant in 2082! Thank God it is beginning to budge, as I would like to drink most of my supply before I kick the bucket. This is a great, still youthful wine, and, on occasion, one does understand the hierarchy of Bordeaux chateaux when you see the complexity and brilliance of this first-growth." (06/2009)

1990 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1990 Margaux, Margaux (100RP, 98ST, 98WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I had this wine both in Seoul, Korea in February, and from my cellar in December, 2008, and it was remarkable how identical the wines smelled and tasted. It offers an extraordinary aromatic display of spring flowers, camphor, sweet red and black fruits, a hint of licorice, and no evidence of its 100% new oak cask aging. Round and generous with low acidity, but an opulent, full-bodied richness that is fresh with laser-like precision, this stunning wine is just beginning to reach its plateau of full maturity, where it should remain for another three decades. A sensational effort, it is one of the legendary wines made at Chateau Margaux." (06/2009)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1996 Margaux, Margaux (99RP, 96ST, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1996 Chateau Margaux, which was bottled in September 1998, is undoubtedly one of the great classics produced under the Mentzelopoulos regime. In many respects it is the quintessential Chateau Margaux, as well as the paradigm for this estate, combining measured power, extraordinary elegance, and admirable complexity. I tasted the wine of three separate occasions in January, and in short, it's a beauty! The color is opaque purple. The wine offers extraordinarily pure notes of blackberries, cassis, pain grille, and flowers, gorgeous sweetness, a seamless personality, and full body, with nothing out of place." (04/1999)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2000 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac (97RP, 94ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is one of the great wines of the vintage, and certainly a candidate for one of the finest wines made at this estate under the management of Christian Seeley and proprietor AXA. Showing incredibly well at two tastings of 2000s, the wine has a dense bluish/purple color and a beautiful nose of incense, melted asphalt, and creme de cassis as well as hints of new saddle leather and licorice. It is superbly concentrated and very pure, with excellent texture and opulence. The acidity seems low, the tannin high but well-integrated. This is a compelling 2000 that is just closing in on its window of maturity and should stay there for at least 20 or more years. Bravo! (RP)" (06/2010)

Bid on this bottle of 1990 Henri Bonneau "Réserve de Célestins" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (100RP, 18JR). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the greatest wines ever produced ... anywhere ... is the 1990. Having consistently merited 100 points (if my scoring system went higher, it would be there), it continues to perform like a young wine, yet is accessible enough to be appreciated for its extraordinary combination of power, complexity, and majestic layers of flavor. The color is a dark plum/ruby to the edge. The monumental bouquet offers up aromas of liquified charcoaled beef intermixed with pepper, smoke, creme de cassis, kirsch liqueur, truffles, and new saddle leather. This full-bodied, viscous, prodigious Chateauneuf du Pape must be tasted to be believed. It is more like a food than a beverage. Anticipated maturity: now-2030. (RP; eRobertParker.com)" (01/2003)

This is almost always a classy effort but in 2009 it is also beautifully stylish..." 93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Volnay Clos des Ducs is a wonderful foil to the Champans. Here the wine is quite a bit more introspective, with a flavor profile that moves towards the darker end of the spectrum. Hints of menthol, spices and licorice add complexity on the long, intensely building finish. The Clos des Ducs is a marvelously complete wine, but it will require patience. Tasted from tank. Bid on this half-bottle of 1990 d'Yquem, Sauternes (375ml) (99RP, 95WS, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An extraordinary effort, Yquem's 1990 is a rich and fabulously superb, sweet wine. This wine also possesses lots of elegance and finesse. The wine's medium gold color is accompanied by an exceptionally sweet nose of honeyed tropical fruits, peaches, coconut, and apricots. High quality, subtle toasty oak is well-integrated. The wine is massive on the palate, with layers of intensely ripe botrytis-tinged, exceptionally sweet fruit. Surprisingly well-integrated acidity, and a seamless, full-bodied power and richness have created a wine of remarkable harmony and purity. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A massive wine that is clearly of first-growth quality in this vintage, the 1982 Gruaud Larose remains a youngster. A broodingly dense, thick, unctuously textured, inky/plum/garnet/purple color offers up scents of beef blood, steak tartare, cassis, herbs, tobacco, and underbrush. One of the most concentrated wines of the vintage (as well as one of the most concentrated Bordeaux’s I have ever tasted), it is a huge, full-bodied, weighty, rich wine whose tannins are getting silkier and silkier. It appears set for another 30-40 years of life. This behemoth is a singularly profound example of Gruaud Larose that continues to justify its legendary status. Anticipated maturity: now-2050. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " A big step up, and showing that the warmer, richer years dish out the most pleasure at maturity, the 1990 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reserve is drop-dead gorgeous, and close to my favorite of the night. Possessing a thrillingly complex, mature feel, with full-bodied richness and a layered, textured and seamless mouthfeel, this puppy was singing, with loads of lavender, peppery herbs, game and dried flower-like aromas and flavors. In that sense, it might actually outlast the 1990, but what a pair these two wines make. The wine has a dark garnet/ruby color and fabulous aromatics of black raspberries, kirsch, licorice, and copious amounts of toasted new oak. Relatively full-bodied for a La Conseillante, with great purity, sweet tannin, but noticeable structure and muscle, this is a relatively large-scaled La Conseillante that has always been one of the top wines of the vintage. Because of this, the wine appears to have a sweeter, more fleshy texture than is typical for a young Latour, but do not make the mistake of thinking this will be a commercially-styled, easy to drink wine. It exhibits an opaque dark ruby/purple color, and a backward, intense textbook nose of walnut and cassis scents complemented by smoky pain grille notes that build in the glass. This full-bodied, powerful, layered Latour reveals high tannin, but no bitterness or astringency. The superb purity, fabulous precision, and remarkable length should ensure 35-40 years of longevity. Readers will find more fat, flesh, and glycerin than usual for a young Latour (save for such great vintages as 1982 and 1990), but don't

1994 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1994 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien (93RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Michel Delon, a great man, is the consummate proprietor, meticulously administering this vast estate spread out along the St.-Julien/Pauillac border, separated from Latour's finest vineyard by a mere ten feet. The 1993-95 vintages from Delon are brilliant wines. Leoville-Las-Cases remains one of the irrefutable reference points for high class Bordeaux. One of the more massive Medocs of the vintage, this opaque purple-colored wine exhibits fabulous richness and volume in the mouth. Layers of pure black-cherry and cassis fruit are intermixed with stony, mineral-like scents, as well as high quality toasty oak. Medium to full-bodied, with a sweet, rich entry, this wine possesses plenty of tannin, yet fabulous extract and length. Leoville-Las-Cases is one of the half-dozen great wines of the Medoc in 1994. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2025. This lion never falls asleep on the job!" (02/1997)

1990 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac (97RP, 94WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A remarkable vintage for Pichon Longueville Baron, 1990 is one of this estate’s two or three finest wines made in the last 40 years. Still inky/blue/purple-tinged to the rim, it reveals an extraordinary bouquet of charcoal, incense, creme de cassis, blue and black fruits, and a hint of licorice as well as an impressively long finish. While drinkable, its evolution is extremely slow, and I would not be surprised to see it last another two decades or more." (06/2009)

I can't get over the perfumed aromas of subtle milk chocolate, cedar and sweet tobacco. Full-bodied, yet so refined and silky, lasting for minutes on the palate. 1989 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1989 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (99RP, 96WS, 95ST, 94JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1989 has taken forever to shed its formidable tannins, but what a great vintage of Lynch Bages! I would rank it at the top of the pyramid... Its dense purple color reveals a slight lightening at the edge and the stunning bouquet offers classic notes of creme de cassis, subtle smoke, oak and graphite. Powerful and rich with some tannins still to shed at age 22, it is still a young adolescent in terms of its evolutionand will benefit from another 4-5 years of cellaring. It should prove to be a 50 year wine. (RP)" (08/2011)

There is a nutty, cedar undertone as well. Very complex and full-bodied, with lots of vanilla bean and ripe plum flavors. This is almost Burgundian in texture: so soft and so attractive, but then the Bordeaux tannins kick in at the end. What a wine. The wine is medium-bodied, with beautifully sweet fruit. This linear, more compressed style of Margaux possesses a good inner-core of sweet fruit, and a charming, harmonious personality. 1990 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (94ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red with a pale rim. Knockout nose of aromatic herbs, strawberry, sweet spices and acacia flower; yet another wine strongly marked by its Cabernet Franc presence. Fresh and vibrant, this absolutely dances on the palate with strawberry, sour red cherry and raspberry flavors complicated by gunflint and herbs. High acidity provides great clarity and cut to the long, floral, smoothly tannic finish. This has improved considerably with bottle age. Harvested from September 18 through October 3, this Mouton offers amazing balance and fragrance. In 1990 Mouton was still using a heavy toast for its barriques, which resulted in a smoky quality in the wines that was considered by many to be just as typical of Mouton as its opulence." 2007 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 2007 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Bonnes Mares Grand Cru (94RP, 93BH, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "De Vogue’s 2007 Bonnes Mares calls to mind sweet-tart black raspberry candies and herbal lozenges, along with notes of brown spices and smoky black tea. Rich, sedate, and provocatively sweet and perfumed, this manages simultaneously to preserve a saline savor and suggestion of lobster shell reduction that precludes anyone calling it a 'fruit bomb.' The smoky and--for lack of a better covering term-- 'mineral' elements accompany this Bonnes Mares' soothing finish all the way to its distant end. No doubt there is at least a decade’s worth of seduction and intrigue on hand, but here too, I would not hesitate to relish them significantly sooner. (DS)" (06/2010)

Medium to full-bodied with good purity, strong tannins, and undeniable elegance, it reveals a character not dissimilar from its renowned sibling, Lafite-Rothschild... It reveals an essence of creme de cassis character which sets it apart from other Pauillacs. The wine is displaying plenty of tannin, huge body, and sweet black currant fruit intermixed with minerals and subtle oak. Massive, extremely structured, and with 25-30 or more years of longevity, this immensely-styled Grand-Puy-Lacoste will require 7-8 years of patience, perhaps longer. A superb, classic Pauillac. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2030. (RP)" (04/1999)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2000 Haut-Bergey, Pessac-Léognan (94RP, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I bought this wine for myself because I thought it was a sleeper of the vintage, and I couldn’t be happier. My score in two tastings was identical to what it was seven years ago. Chocolatey espresso notes jump from the glass of this dark ruby/purple-colored wine. Full-bodied, with a silky texture, loads of concentration and density, this is a beautiful wine that is both hedonistically and intellectually pleasing. The wine seems to have reached full maturity, where it should stay for another 10-15 years." (06/2010)

The fully mature 2000 displays gorgeous aromas of camphor, lead pencil shavings, unsmoked tobacco, plums, and black currants. Less obviously ripe aromas of black cherry, dark berries, cocoa powder, and smoke, plus a faint medicinal nuance. More open in the mouth today than Beaucastel's '97; shows lovely sweetness and texture and very good cut and thrust. Hints of leather and game. Not quite as ripe as the '97, but finishes quite persistent, with a subtly perfumed quality. This may well be for drinking after the '97. (ST)" (02/1999)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Château de Puligny-Montrachet Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru (94BH, 93ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "**Don't Miss!** Beautifully nuanced, high-toned and stunningly complex white flower and citrus zest aromas introduce with a flourish the intense, pure and impressively precise middle weight plus flavors that brim with an almost pungent minerality on the citrus-infused and well-balanced but distinctly austere finish that borders on being painfully intense. The Perrières and Folatières are clearly lovely wines but it's no contest as the Chevalier is indisputably at another level." (01/2010)

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (98RP, 97WE, 95JS, 93ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A candidate for the wine of the vintage, the 2008 should have been purchased before it began to soar in value because of the significance of the number 8 in the Chinese culture (denoting good luck). Representing 40% of the production, this blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc offers aromas of high quality unsmoked cigar tobacco, lead pencil shavings, creme de cassis, earth, cedar and asphalt. Full, rich and stunningly concentrated... This deep, profound wine has admirable focus, great purity, harmony, and a mind-bogglingly long finish. 2000 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2000 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (96RP, 96WE, 95WS, 94ST, 93JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In short, I find this to be a spectacular Pichon Lalande. Dense purple in color, with loads of coffee, mocha, creme de cassis, and chocolate notes, this is a somewhat unusual blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and a whooping 10% Petit Verdot, with a little bit of Cabernet Franc. The Petit Verdot certainly gives the wine more of a tapenade, floral note, which I think can be interpreted by some as herbal. This is a rich, opulent, stunning Pichon Lalande that is beginning to drink beautifully, yet should continue to improve for at least another 10-15 years and last 30 or more years." (06/2010)

1990 La Conseillante, Pomerol

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This deep ruby/garnet-hued 1990 reveals considerable amber at the edge as well as a knock-out bouquet of cedar, kirsch, licorice, roasted herbs, and spice box. An exuberant, atypically flamboyant effort, it possesses supple texture, medium to full body, sweet fruit, plenty of glycerin, and attractive melted tannin. This wine has been delicious since birth, but additional nuances continue to develop in the bottle. Drink it over the next decade." (06/2009)

Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Louis Jadot Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru (90-93BH, 90-92AG). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is one of the few wines to display noticeable reduction and it's enough to knock down the nose though my score assumes that this will be corrected before it is bottled. There is good richness and vibrancy to the solidly well-concentrated flavors that possess plenty of tannin-buffering dry extract though the palate impression of the finish is still quite firm, all wrapped in a backend that delivers excellent persistence. This is a bit more rough and tumble than one typically sees from a classic Griotte though it does not display any overt rusticity."

Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine Paul Pernot Bienvenues Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (95BH, 93ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is not quite as refined as the Bienvenues but it's more complex still with an unusually expressive nose at this early stage of notably ripe white peach, pear, yellow peach and apricot fruit scents that combine with very pretty floral nuances. The rich, powerful and muscular full-bodied flavors ooze with dry extract that imparts an opulent mouth feel to the attractively precise and borderline painfully intense finish. 2003 Latour, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 2003 Latour, Pauillac (100JS, 100RP, (96-98WE), 98WS, 97ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Administrator Frederic Engerer says the 2003 is “the sexiest Latour ever made.” He also described it as “the 1990 without any brettanomyces.” I loved this wine from the barrel and was fortunate enough to be able to purchase a small quantity, enjoying every bottle I have had. A profound example of Chateau Latour, the full-bodied, opulent 2003 is already performing well at age eleven, which is somewhat atypical. The pH is a relatively high 3.8, which also indicates low acidity. The wine is very ripe, but not over-ripe, offers great freshness, and lots of creme de cassis and camphor as well as hints of blackberries and chocolate. Dense, thick and unctuously textured, this staggering Latour is undeniably the most sumptuous, opulent wine made here since the 1982 or 1961. Drink it over the next two decades. " (08/2014)

I like the energy here as well as the underlying sense of harmony of expression." (07/2008)

2009 Le Dôme, St-Emilion
Bid on this bottle of 2009 Le Dôme, St-Emilion (99RP, 95JS, 95ST, 95WE, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the most distinctive wines made in Bordeaux, Le Dome has one of the highest percentages of Cabernet Franc of any claret I can think of. Composed of 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot, it exhibits a certain delicacy and elegance (due to the Cabernet Franc component) in addition to resounding power, concentration, depth and multidimensional personality. Black/purple to the rim, it offers strikingly intense notes of spring flowers, raspberries, mulberries and wood smoke, medium to full body, sweet tannin and a cunning intensity and texture that suggest finesse and delicacy. However, the wine’s richness, length and lingering depth build incrementally in this exceptional St.-Emilion. It will be drinkable in 4-5 years and should age for two decades or more. 1999 Monbousquet, St-Emilion
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1999 Monbousquet, St-Emilion (94RP, 91ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dense ruby/purple-colored 1999 Monbousquet exhibits a port-like bouquet of super-ripe black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with scents of coffee, tobacco, and vanilla. Tipping the scales at a whopping 14% alcohol (extremely high for Bordeaux), this wine, which spends 18 months in 100% new oak and is bottled unfined and unfiltered, is a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. It was cropped at an amazingly low 30 hectoliters per hectare. It possesses an amazing texture, a mid-palate that you could get lost in, and a sensational 40-45 second finish. The exotic aromas, incredible texture, and abundant fruit are reminiscent of Pomerol's renowned micro-cuvee, Le Pin. The 1999 is even better from bottle than it was from cask. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1995 La Mission Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan (95RP, 92WS, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This vintage is aging at a glacial pace and the tannins are currently more significant than their counterbalancing components of fruit and glycerin. While the word “potential” seems to be the most positive descriptor for this vintage, there are some nagging doubts about whether all the tannins will melt away and the fruit will hold. As in most 1995s, the color remains a healthy dark plum/purple. One of the bigger wines of the vintage, the ripe, powerful Merlot component has buttressed the Cabernet elements, giving the wine plenty of body, tannin and La Mission’s classic asphalt, cassis, blackberry, smoky barbecue, meaty notes intermixed with a hint of hot rocks. The 1995 is still a young wine and I am beginning to wonder if this vintage overall will resemble 1975 rather than something with more charm? Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035?. (95+) (RP)" (08/2012)

Of the 2004 Domaine William Fevre Chablis Grand Cru "Les Clos",Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The star of this extraordinary line-up is Domaine William Fevre’s show-stopping 2004 Chablis Les Clos (domaine). Its creamed stone aromatics are followed by a bold, muscular, powerful character. Medium to full-bodied and ample, it explodes on the palate, unleashing waves of iodine-laced minerals, white fruits, and liquefied rocks. Viscous and full-bodied, it is the most concentrated and broadest example of this cuvee I have tasted in over three decades. Bid on this magnum of 1992 Moet & Chandon "Dom Pérignon" Brut Champagne (1.5 L) (OWC - 91ST) in original wood. Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Very fine aromas of quinine, lemon, lime, minerals and gingery; lightly musky suggestion of yeast autolysis. Very intensely flavored and solidly structured but already quite accessible and open to inspection. Slightly aggressive finish shows excellent persistence. Doesn't offer the complexity or grip of the best D.P. vintages, but this is ripe and delicious wine. " (12/1999)

Bid on this magnum of 2009 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Taillepieds" (1.5L) ((92-94BH), (91-94RP), (91-94ST)). 92-94 points and "Sweet spot Outstanding" from Allen Meadows: "A ripe yet cool nose features notes of cherry liqueur, raspberry, stone and soil-tones, all of which can be found on the rich, generous and beautifully well-detailed middle weight flavors that exude an equally fine minerality on the driving, punch and strikingly long finish where the hallmark touch of austerity in a young Taillepieds is in evidence. A lovely effort of class and grace that is less forbidding than usual." (May 06, 2011) 91-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Volnay Taillepieds opens with a dark, baritone expression of fruit. It is one of the more introspective wines here, but in the glass its sensual personality and round, layered fruit emerge over time. This gains impressive volume and intensity on the finish. Taillepieds is the highest 1er Cru in Volnay. Tasted from

1996 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1996 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien (92RP, 92ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This impressive wine is a classic. Although backward, it exhibits a dense ruby/purple color in addition to abundant black currant fruit intertwined with spicy oak and truffle-like scents. The wine is brilliantly made, full-bodied, and tightly-structured with plenty of muscle and outstanding concentration and purity. It should turn out to be a long-lived Leoville Barton, and somewhat of a sleeper. However, patience will be required. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2030. (RP)" (04/1999)

Bid on this bottle of 1996 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les St. Georges" ((92-94RP), 93ST, 90BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Potentially Chevillon's finest 1996, this dark-colored wine (if Nuits were ever to have a vineyard elevated to grand cru status this would be the one) had an unyielding yet floral nose the day of my tasting. It is a full-bodied, richly-fruited, complex, concentrated, intense, and profound wine. Dense and yet focused waves of blackberries, brambleberries, cherries, and boysenberries are intricately laced with Asian spices, minerals, and stones. This offering is fabulous! (PR)" (08/1998)

2012 Auguste Clape "Renaissance" Cornas
Bid on this bottle of 2012 Auguste Clape "Renaissance" Cornas (95RP, (90-92ST)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The entry level Cornas that gets some young vines, the 2012 Cornas Renaissance is just like the straight Cornas, only slightly softer and more approachable. Cassis, black raspberry, leather, crushed rock and liquid mineral-like qualities all give way to a full-bodied, concentrated, yet elegant and thrillingly pure Cornas that can be enjoyed anytime over the coming decade or more. While it doesn't get any more Cornas than Clape, these wines also speak just as loudly of the domaine as they do of the steep granite slopes of the appellation. There's always something unique in these wines, something bloody, meaty and iron-like, and I've yet to find something similar in other wines. In my opinion, these wines are the epitome of Cornas. 1990 Paul Jaboulet Aîné "La Chapelle" Hermitage
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1990 Paul Jaboulet Aîné "La Chapelle" Hermitage (100RP, 97WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1990 La Chapelle is sexy and opulent. I had the 1990 at the Jaboulet tasting, and again out of a double magnum three months ago. On both occasions it was spectacular, clearly meriting a three-digit score. The modern day equivalent of the 1961, it deserves all the attention it has garnered. The color remains an opaque purple, with only a slight pink at the edge. Spectacular aromatics offer up aromas of incense, smoke, blackberry fruit, cassis, barbecue spice, coffee, and a touch of chocolate. As it sits in the glass, additional nuances of pepper and grilled steak emerge. There is extraordinary freshness for such a mammoth wine in addition to abundant tannin, an amazing 60-second finish, and a level of glycerin and thick, fleshy texture that have to be tasted to be believed. Despite its youthfulness, the 1990 La Chapelle is lovely to drink, although it will be e

1969 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1969 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche Grand Cru (94RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A healthy, medium to dark garnet color with considerable rust and brown at the edge is typical of a 26-year old, high class red Burgundy. A pungent, smoked duck, Asian spice, sweet, red and black fruit, caramel-like bouquet explodes from the glass. If there is ever a wine that can be said to reek of terroir, it is this 1969. From one of the more structured vintages in the last 25 years (let's hope the finest 1993s turn out this well), this fully mature, medium to full-bodied La Tache still retains some tannin. It is beautifully sweet, expansive, and rich, with complex aromatics... It is a terrific La Tache that proves that in some instances, great red Burgundy can last for 25+ years." (08/1995)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Pierre Usseglio "Cuvée de Mon Aïeul" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (100RP, 94ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are 1,800 cases of the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Mon Aieul (100% tank-aged Grenache). It represents an awesome naked/virginal expression of Grenache from three vineyard parcels planted in sand, clay, and limestone soils. After tasting this wine on five separate occasions, I can state with certainty, it has the most saturated color of any Mon Aieul produced to date. Moreover, its perfume of blueberry liqueur, black raspberries, licorice, roasted meat juices, and lavender is incredible. Full-bodied power, a multilayered mouthfeel, tremendous purity, and awesome concentration put this wine in a class by itself. This sensational Chateauneuf du Pape is still very young, and 3-4 years of cellaring is required. It should be a modern day legend and last for nearly two decades. (RP)" (10/2009)

1970 Petrus, Pomerol
Bid on this bottle of 1970 Petrus, Pomerol (99RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This dark garnet-colored wine shows considerable amber at the edge. I have always had a tenency to taste this side by side with the 1971, and it has been fascinating how the 1971 was fully mature at a much younger age yet continued to hold onto life without losing any of its seductive fruit and intensity. The 1970 started off life more tannic, backward, massive, but needing considerable time, and it has now hit full stride. It is a profound Petrus, and certainly one of the great Petrus’ of the last half century. The wine has a huge nose of cedar, caramel, vanilla, tobacco, fruitcake, and licorice-infused black cherry jam. It is unctuously textured and very full-bodied, with extraordinary sweetness and glycerin, and a layered, viscous finish. This wine should continue to drink well for at least another 20 years. 1999 Palmer, Margaux

It is one of the superstars of the vintage. The wine is a blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot. It boasts a staggering bouquet of violets and other spring flowers intermixed with licorice, black currants, and subtle wood. Only 50% of the production made it into the grand vin. This is a multidimensional, compelling effort with both power and elegance, it offers sweet tannin along with flavors that caress the palate, and a 45-second finish. This is terrific stuff! Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2003 Domaine du Pégaü "Cuvée Reservée" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (98RP, 97WS, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " Starting with the 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reserve, this wine showed spectacularly on release, closed down for a few years, and has now emerged, at close to full maturity, and is straight-up fabulous. Out of the entire tasting, it remained my favorite. Of the 2009 Domaine de la Janasse "Vieilles Vignes" Châteauneuf-du-Pape,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is considered by many observers in Chateauneuf du Pape to be the wine of the vintage, and it can most certainly be counted among the finest. A blend of 80% Grenache and the rest Syrah and Mourvedre tipping the scales at 15.5% natural alcohol (which is slightly less than the Chaupin), the wine has an inky black/purple color as well as incredible density and richness, with notes of soy, blackberry, and blueberry liqueur, incense, acacia flowers and licorice. The layered, full-bodied mouthfeel displays no heat, but the wine has massive concentration and a

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The brilliant 2005 Grand-Puy-Lacoste exhibits classic Pauillac aromas and flavors of creme de cassis along with stony/floral notes. Proprietor Xavier Borie has created a wine that should rival the brilliant 1982, 1990, 1996, and 2000. 1953 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this bottle of 1953 Margaux, Margaux (98RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1953 Margaux has been delicious for most of its life. Bottles from the cold, damp Paris cellars of the French wine merchant, Nicolas, have exhibited an impressively dark ruby/purple color with only slight lightening at the edge. Its huge nose possesses rich scents of violets, sweet cassis fruit, and spices. Round and opulent, with a velvety texture and gobs of sweet, jammy fruit, this is Chateau Margaux at its most seductive. (RP)" (10/1994)

1966 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1966 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac. Clive Coates: "Very good vigorous full colour. Much more vigorous that the 1970. Much richer and more stylish too. Very elegant fruit on the nose. On the palate this also shows a little age, like the 1967 and 1970. But it is the richest, ripest and plumpest of the three. Good concentrated fruit. Fatter than the 1970. Much more elegance. Long but not that intense or concentrated. Very good indeed, but not a great 1966. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2006 Domaine Ramonet Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (93BH, 93RP, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " I have loved this wine the two or three times I have tasted it and this is easily the best bottle I have encountered. The nose here is much more immediate, with a stunning mineral nose, hints of brioche coming through like last time, but with even more precision and focus, flinty scents developing with time. The palate is clean, tense and refined with hazelnut and quince, a weightlessness and poise that is quite hypnotic. This is one of my favorite white Burgundy wines, and this 2006 is impressive. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Michel & Stephane Ogier Côte-Rôtie (95RP, 94WS, 93ST, 92WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The largest cuvee (20,000 bottles) is the 2010 Cote Rotie Classique, Stephane Ogier’s “greatest vintage to date.” Seventy percent of the fruit comes from their holdings on the Cote Brune. It boasts a dense purple color along with a sweet nose of asphalt, licorice, forest floor, blackberries, cassis and bouquet garni, sensational concentration and sweet tannins. The structure, freshness and minerality suggest another 3-4 years of cellaring may be beneficial. It has 25 years of potential evolution. (RP)" (12/2012)

A dense-colored Rayas, but not as thick-looking as the 1990, this dark ruby-colored wine exhibits plenty of roasted herb notes intermixed with scents of tobacco, sweet creme de cassis, and kirsch. 1986 Gruaud Larose, St-Julien
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1986 Gruaud Larose, St-Julien (96RP, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " Still tasting as if it were only 7-8 years of age, the dense, garnet/purple-colored 1986 Gruaud-Larose is evolving at a glacier pace. The wine still has mammoth structure, tremendous reserves of fruit and concentration, and a finish that lasts close to a minute. The wine is massive, very impressively constituted, with still some mouth-searing tannin to shed. Decanting of one to two hours in advance seems to soften it a bit, but this is a wine that seems to be almost immortal in terms of its longevity. It is a great Medoc classic, and certainly one of the most magnificent Gruaud-Larose ever made. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2035. Last tasted, 10/02. (RP)" (01/2003)

1990 La Mission Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan
Bid on this bottle of 1990 La Mission Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (99RP, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Reminiscing over the 1989 and 1990 vintages, which I have followed from birth, there always seemed to be a dramatic difference in quality. Not that the 1990 was not a top wine, but in its infancy, I never thought it would come close to being as riveting and magnetic as its older sibling, the 1989. However, it has proven to be nearly as prodigious. One of the hottest years in Bordeaux, 1990, a vintage of enormous yields, even dwarfing yields in 1985 and 1982, produced a fabulously open-knit, seemingly fast track La Mission that, at age 22, shows no signs of fading or losing its grip. The color is slightly more mature and evolved than the 1989’s, exhibiting a lighter rim and a less dark blue/ruby/purple hue. Classic La Mission-Haut-Brion aromatics of camphor, licorice, scorched earth, hot bricks, barbecue, cassis, blueberry and kirsch are well displayed. Broad, expansive, velvet

1995 d'Yquem, Sauternes (375ml)
Bid on this 2-half-bottle lot of 1995 d'Yquem, Sauternes (375ml) (95RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Served from an ex-chateau bottle. The 1995 Chateau d’Yquem is moving into its secondary aroma phase. A deep golden color, it has a dense and almost Barsac-like bouquet with tangerine, apricot, acacia and melted candle wax. It displays good intensity, unfolding beautifully in the glass. The palate has a strident opening, with a slight bitter edge that lends this Yquem great tension. One can discern layers of marmalade infused with honey fruit, with a powerful, spicy finish that lingers long in the mouth. This is drinking perfectly now, but will surely age with style over many years. Tasted March 2014. (NM)" (06/2014)

Wild and slightly funky, yet holding onto beautiful purity of fruit, this is a classic, medium to full-bodied Cote Rotie that has solid concentration, bright acidity and fine tannin, all of which are carried by a seamless, elegant texture.
