2013 Domaine Paul Pernot Bourgogne Chardonnay Top Pick!
2013 Domaine Paul Pernot Bourgogne Chardonnay

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "(from Puligny vines on the Meursault border – vinified in stainless steel). This too is extremely fresh though with a bit more aromatic breadth to the floral, citrus, pear and apple-scented nose. The middle weight flavors possess an attractive texture and solid concentration before terminating in a balanced and lingering finish. I would suggest holding this excellent effort for 2 to 3 years though it could be approached young. Recommended." (6/2015)

2013 Meurgey-Croses Mâcon-Uchizy

Pierre Meurgey, formerly the Managing Director at Maison Champy, with whom we have been working for 20 years, is now working on his own. His mother's family hails from the Mâcon, so he has particularly good connectoins with some terrific growers in this part of Burgundy. The name comes from his name, and that of his mother's family, in the time-honored Burgundian tradtion. This Chardonnay is fermented and aged only in tank to emphasize the freshness and minerality of this wine, sourced from the village of Uchizy in the northern part of Mâcon. (Keith... Read More »

2012 Jacques Bavard Auxey-Duresses "Les Clous" Top Pick!
2012 Jacques Bavard Auxey-Duresses "Les Clous"

Discover a delicious Chardonnay from one of our favorite direct-import producers in Burgundy. Maison Jacques Bavard is a tiny negociant producer in Puligny Montrachet. He comes from a long line of wine-growers, and is dedicated to working with organic and biodynamic growers. This wine is long and concentrated, and comes from a vineyard just over the hill from Meursault Meix Chavaux. It has both life and weight on the palate. Terrific! Get this value while you can, because the Bavard wines won't last long in stock. (Keith Wollenberg, K&L Burgundy Buyer)

2013 Thierry & Pascale Matrot Bourgogne Blanc

Jancis Robinson: "Intense primary lemon aroma and flavour, with enough lees character to add the texture that softens the whole into harmony. Tight and bright and straightforward, as you might expect for a simple Bourgogne Chardonnay." (1/2015) K&L Notes: As written in SF Gate: "Chardonnay-wise, the Matrots dabble in rarefied ground - the Burgundy commune of Meursault. That village is also the source for their Bourgogne Blanc, from 30+-year-old vines and fermented with indigenous yeast. Which is to say: They're treating their basic juice with class; its apple flesh, mustard seed and ... Read More »

2012 Olivier Leflaive St-Aubin 1er Cru "Charmois" Top Pick!
2012 Olivier Leflaive St-Aubin 1er Cru "Charmois"

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 St. Aubin 1er Cru Charmois is 100% negoce fruit and is raised in 15% new oak. It has a very light bouquet that needs more fruit expression. The palate has a light, apple entry with slightly shrill acidity at the moment. It is very citric in the mouth with bitter lemon on the terse finish" (12/2013) K&L Notes: The Saint Aubin les Charmois is a bit of a lesser-known gem. It is located on the wrong side of an invisible dotted line directly next to Chassagne-Montrachet, 1er Cru Les Chaumees. It represents Chassagne richness, but at a more reasonable tariff than ... 2013 Domaine Paul Pernot Puligny-Montrachet

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "(from 4 different separate lieux-dits within Puligny and Blagny from vines that average 50 years of age). A smoky and ever-so-mildly exotic nose features notes of various white orchard fruit, acacia blossom and tangerine peel hints. The cool, pure and focused middle weight flavors possess good volume but also fine detail that continues onto the refreshing, complex and beautifully long finish. This is very Puligny and delivers excellent quality for its level." (6/2015) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright lemon-yellow. 2012 Château de la Charrière Santenay Blanc 1er Cru "Beauregard" Domaine Yves Girardin (Previously $33)

This a new acquisition of one of the family's historic vineyards in Santenay from his brother Vincent who left the wine business to farm cereal grains west of Paris. It shows a very pretty thread of minerality running through it, which comes from the relatively shallow topsoil of this site, located above the more well-known Santenay Gravières. This has that combination of energy, focus and a relatively open texture on the palate that makes it very easy to like. (Keith Wollenberg, K&L Burgundy Buyer, 03/2014)

Best from 2017 through 2030 - B.S." (5/2015) K&L Notes: Etienne Delarche, son of Philippe who passed away in 2008, now runs this family owned estate of 9 hectares in the villages of Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. This is a wine purchased by Keith Wollenberg right before he retired. We decided to pop a bottle for the Hollywood staff, and wow! This wine is deliciously rich and layered with subtle hint... Allen Meadows - Burghound: "There is a hint of matchstick character to the mostly citrus-infused nose that leads to attractively vibrant, cool and delicious flavors that deliver solid persistence on the clean, dry and inviting finish." (6/2015) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Bourgogne Chardonnay, which had been bottled already when I visited Pierre-Yves, has a light and pretty, floral bouquet rather than fruit-driven. The palate is crisp on the entry with sharp acidity and a sour lemon finish. Very elegant for a generic white Burgundy." (12/2014)

The palate has a gras entry loaded with spicy citrus fruit that crescendo towards an impressive, vibrant finish that leaves touches of walnut and litchi on the long finish. This is very impressive. (6/2014) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Bourgogne Chardonnay illuminates the potential deficiencies of the Aligote, for it is much fresher and vibrant on the nose. 2012 Joseph Faiveley Bouzeron Aligoté

Leased from the proprietor of the Domaine de la Romanee Conti. Recorded in Burgundy in the 1700s, Aligoté was once widely planted, but almost died out in the early 20th century after the 19th century phylloxera epidemic wiped out most of the vineyards. It is undergoing a renaissance in the 21st century, however; Aubert DeVillaine, proprietor of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti believes so fervently in this grape that he fought for—and won—an all-Aligoté appellation in Bouzeron. Aligoté is a high-acid grape, so ripeness is important for balance. My friends... Read More »

The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, vibrant citric fruit and a dash of lemongrass lending spice to the finish that just misses a little persistence at the moment. (NM)" (12/2014) 87-90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Light medium yellow. Inviting ripe aromas of yellow peach and spices. This is a good if not truly special Chassagne villages that should drink well after only 2 to 3 years of bottle age." (9/2014) K&L Notes: This Chardonnay, 100% hand-harvested, comes from a single vineyard well-situated on gravel-rich soil in Meursault. Traditional aging in oak barrels for one year helps to produce this fresh though fleshy, robust white. This is a domaine to watch.
