1999 Bodegas Puelles Gran Reserva Rioja Top Pick!
1999 Bodegas Puelles Gran Reserva Rioja

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Gran Reserva has an enticing red cherry, soy and cedar-scented bouquet that is reminiscent of an old Burgundy. The palate is very well-balanced with fine acidity and edgy tannin. There are notes of fresh red cherries and orange rind interlaced by leather on the tart, highly enjoyable, zesty finish. Drink now-2018. (NM)" (8/2012) K&L Notes: Wow--this is spectacular Gran Reserva! Made in a traditional style with earthy red fruit aromas, and in this relatively cooler, damper vintage, a slightly Burgundian profile. The wine features good acidity, minerality, and... 2012 Bodegas Castano "Solanera Vinas Viejas" Yecla

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even more remarkable is the 2012 Solanera Vinas Viejas, a blend of 70% Mourvedre, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Grenache aged 10 months in a combination of French and American oak. A custom cuvee that is only available through importer Eric Solomon, this amazing red wine displays notes of lead pencil shavings, acacia flowers, black raspberries, blueberries and black currants. This full-bodied, intense 2012 tastes like it should cost three to five times as much. Full-bodied, stunningly pure and textured, it should last for 4-5 years, possibly longer. T ...Read More »

Mas Codina Cava Brut Reserva Penedès Top Pick!
Mas Codina Cava Brut Reserva Penedès

Mas Codina is a 40 hectare estate in Penedès which dates back to 1681. This Brut Reserva Cava was hand-harvested from 20 to 30-year-old vines and estate bottled. Though it does not say it on the label, the current disgorgement is based entirely on the 2010 harvest. Vines are planted in calcareous and sandy clay soils which keep the wine minerally and lively. The wine undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle, and is aged on its lees for a minimum of two years before disgorgement. Varietals include Macabeo, Xarel-lo, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. 100% ... Read More »

2009 Bodegas Olarra "Añares" Reserva Rioja

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep red. Raspberry, cherry and spicy oak on the fragrant nose. Spicy, sweet red fruit flavors are complemented by vanilla, mocha and licorice, with a smoky note sneaking in on the back half. Finishes with an echo of vanilla, soft tannins and very good persistence." (9/2013) Jancis Robinson: "Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo, Graciano. 2010 Bodegas Puelles Crianza Rioja Top Pick!
2010 Bodegas Puelles Crianza Rioja

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Crianza is produced with 100% destemmed Tempranillo grapes fermented in inox and aged for one year in barriques (50% French, 50% American) is a little closed in the nose, seems like a serious wine, with a mix of red and black fruit and the wood well-integrated in the wine. Round in the palate, with clean flavors, supple, balanced, very Rioja. It grows on you as it also improves with air and gets more focused. 30,000 bottles were produced. A great value Crianza to buy by the case! Drink 2014-2018." (8/2012) K&L Notes: A K&L Direct Import! Jesús Puelles is one... Read More »

The Grenache comes from 70-year-old vines, and the Syrah from 30-year-old vines. It is difficult to find a better value than this incredibly rich effort. This full-bodied beauty boasts a deep ruby color as well as loads of strawberry and black cherry fruit, hints of lavender and crushed rocks, sweet tannin, and a broad, savory mouthfeel. 2007 Bodegas Puelles Rioja Reserva

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Reserva showed a strong reduction when uncorked and should benefit from decanting in advance. Pure Tempranillo, it matured in barrels for 20 months. The nose, after the reduction has blown off, is quite classical but clean showing roasted aromas and hints of dark spices, balsam and perhaps leather. The palate is quite lively, with good, refreshing acidity and fully resolved tannins. 14,000 bottles." (4/2015) K&L Notes: Jesús Puelles is one of the most talented vignerons in Rioja. 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon emerges from a vineyard situated adjacent to one of the famous vineyards utilized to produce Spain’s greatest red wine, Vega Sicilia. Made from relatively old vines, the 2012 Pruno is a sexy, opulent, voluptuously textured effort that spent 12 months in two-year-old French oak barrels. 2014 Bodegas Muga Rosado Rioja

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I have always loved Muga’s rose, and the 2012 Rosado (a blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Viura and 10% Tempranillo aged two months in American oak vats) is delicious. Lots of strawberry and cherry notes as well as surprising body and underlying power give this a traditional, old style rose character. With both freshness and flavor intensity, this surprisingly fine effort should drink well for a year." 2009 Viña Eguía Reserva Rioja

The palate is crisp, with good acidity and length. (LG)" (12/2013) Wine Spectator: "There's good density to the black cherry, leafy and spicy flavors in this balanced red, remaining lively, even delicate, with racy, citrusy acidity, supple tannins and a floral finish." A glass-coating opaque purple, it offers up an alluring bouquet of pain grille, scorched earth, leather, espresso, black cherry, and blackberry liqueur. Layered on the palate, it has tons of spicy, savory fruit, excellent balance, enough stuffing to evolve for another 4-6 years, and a lengthy, pure finish. (9/2014) Wine Spectator: "The silky texture carries pear, melon and light vanilla flavors in this gentle white, with just enough acidity for structure. (Web-2014)"

Tio Pepe (Gonzalez Byass) Fino Sherry

Jancis Robinson: "Fresh, riper fruit than the Barbadillo Manzanilla -- such a good, reliable brand! Great concentration and purity. (RH)" (4/2013) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Talking about which, the NV Tio Pepe Fino is an icon of Sherry wine. Produced from Palomino grapes aged in the Tio Pepe solera for an average of four years under flor. It has a light nose of dried flowers, almonds and olives, in a subtle way and a dry palate dominated by the chalky notes. Light and easy to drink, it is a good introduction to Fino Sherry. (LG)" (8/2013) Wine Enthusiast: "Round and nutty, with mild floral and honey hints up front. The ...Read More »

La Cigarrera Manzanilla Sanlucar de Barrameda (375ml)

A wonderful expression of Manzanilla, the La Cigarrera always comes to us very fresh, expressing the briny, sea air quality for which these wines are known. It is bone dry, appley and has suggestions of loquat fruit and pits, with terrific complexity, no doubt due to the bodega's prime location in the "barrio bajo" section of Sanlucar, as well as its use of an amazing eight criaderas (the norm for these wines is three-to-four). So there is a depth of flavor for Manzanilla which is rare. Enjoy this as a perfect aperitif, or with olives, almonds, shrimp an... Read More »

2013 Columna Albariño Rias Baixas

Produced in the slightly warmer Rias Baixas sub-zone of O Rosal, Columna's 2013 is a lovely balance between granite-driven, subtly smoky minerality, salinity and fairly rich yellow stone fruit. This would be wonderful to enjoy before a meal or alongside seafood and shellfish. Once again, as it was last vintage, the Columna shows lots of character and value for the price.

2013 Aizpurua Getariako Txakolina

This particular bottling of Txakoli is very traditional, apparently what the winery sells to its long-time local customer in and around Donostia (San Sebastian), and it is sooo good! Though we're quickly heading into winter season, we could not resist adding another delicious Txakoli, particularly a local's favorite such as this one. A bone dry style (even by txakoli standards, this is DRY) that is citric, more frothy than fizzy, and has a lovey texture and balance. Delicious and very highly recommended! 2013 Bodegas Angel Rodriguez Martinsancho Verdejo Rueda

Angel Rodriguez Leal produces what is hands down the best wine in Rueda, Martinsancho. A family-owned bodega since 1784, holding some of the best real estate in the D.O. Their land boasts Verdejo vines which average 40 years of age and stand in a bed of rounded river stones. Wine is fermented in enamel tanks and aged in very large, neutral oak 'cubas'. The resulting wine is generous, with delicious peach, melon and guava notes, textural, as well as mineral, focused and age-worthy. In other words, drink it now but stash some away for a few years down the... Read More »

2009 Bodegas Casa Juan Señor de Lesmos Crianza Rioja (1.5L)

Lesmos is back, and now in magnums, the ideal size for parties and for extended aging in your cellar! All estate fruit, hand harvested, and carefully vinified with native yeasts, this is a hand sewn wine with the purity, texture and elegance to prove it. Produced from 85% Tempranillo and 15% Mazuelo, the wine shows a rather Burgundian nose of cherries and plums, opening to reveal a hint of sandalwood that leads to a wonderful palate that opens with tangy cherry flavors that are persistent and presented on an elegantly textured frame. Terrific acidity an... Read More »

2013 Señorío de P. Peciña Rioja Blanco

Produced from 100% estate grown viura grapes, this is a wine with cut, drive, purely defined fruit and a lot of food pairing potential. Though you may not be lucky enough to enjoy it with the local sauteed wild mushrooms at the Peciña's favorite restaurant in nearby Fuenmayor, Asador Alameda (if ever in Rioja, by the way, this is the place to eat), know that there are many potential food pairings where this wine will shine. A few ideas include cod, bronzini or other types of fish, risotto, and chicken dishes. For an expression of white Rioja that is... Read More »

El Maestro Sierra Fino Jerez de la Frontera (375ml)

91 points Wine & Spirits: "Gently floral, with hints of iodine and pepper, this is a subtle and delicate Fino. The acidity keeps up the tension while the texture feels soft. Give it time in the glass and spicy scents emerge, along with an intriguing fruitiness." (10/2013)90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The non-vintage Fino offers up aromas and flavors of sea salt and roasted nuts. It is excellent as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to sushi." (2/2007) Jancis Robinson: "Quite subtle and light. Delicate but not thin - tangy and bright, in fact." (9/2012) K&L Notes: El Maestro Sierra is a terrific boutique sherry bodega in Jerez de la Frontera. ... Read More »
