2012 La Monacesca Verdicchio di Matelica (1.5L)

93 points James Suckling: "Beautiful aromas of peaches and apples that follow through to a full body with layers of dried pineapple and peaches. A velvety texture from the phenolics in this. Long and flavorful. Layered, rich white that shows wonderful fruit." (12/2014) K&L Notes: Truly one of Italy's best white wines, Verdicchio is one of Italy's great white grapes and in this isolated Apennine Valley at 1200 feet magic happens. Not harvested until the first week of October this wine achieves complete physiological ripeness, that allows the flavors to deepen, allows the wine to show this uniqu... Read More »

2010 Banfi "Poggio alle Mura" Brunello di Montalcino 1.5L (Pre-Arrival)

97 points James Suckling: "A wine that sneaks up on you. It starts up slowly with dried-berry, chocolate and dried-lemon character. Full body, chewy tannins and a long, long finish. A wine that shows such layered, in-depth character. Tight and exciting. Give it three to four years more before drinking." (12/2014)95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The special vineyard selection 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Poggio Alle Mura opens to brooding dark concentration and an impressive sense of depth. The aromas that characterize the wine are in a school of their own. Instead of the standard red cherry and rose, this expressio ...Read More »

1985 Antinori Secentenario (1.5L)

Jancis Robinson: "Special magnum bottling to celebrate Antinori’s 600th anniversary. Pale ruby with some evolution. Still has some attractive spine as well as definite farmyard character. Sweet start but still lots of acidity and melded tannins. Long, elegant. Light bodied. Great food wine." (3/2005) K&L Notes: This is an INCREDIBLY rare bottling--created at Antinori to commemorate its 600th anniversary in winemaking. A blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from the Tignanello vineyard, it has never been produced again. Actually a multi-vintage wine, this combines... Read More »

2010 Castiglion del Bosco Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

95 points James Suckling: "Fabulous aromas of oranges, peaches and mahogany follow through to a full body with rich, chewy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. This is dense, tight, powerful, compressed and incredibly structured. Needs four to five years of bottle age to come out of its dormancy." (12/2014)91 points Antonio Galloni: "Castiglion del Bosco 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is expressive and beautifully layered in the glass. Crushed flowers, dried cherries, spices, mint and worn-in leather open up nicely in the glass. The flavors are dark and bold throughout, with plenty of mid-palate sweetness that ...Read More »

2010 Capanna Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

94 points James Suckling: "Lots of dried cherry, mahogany and sweet tobacco. Asphalt, too. Full body with silky, refined tannins and a long, gorgeous finish. This is structured and layered. Firm and intense. Better in 2018." (1/2015) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Capanna's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino shows some of the ripest fruit I have tasted in this vintage. There are aspects of the bouquet that taste downright jammy with overtones of strawberry and blackcurrant. The wine's concentration is dense, dark and brooding. The bouquet is similarly dense with fruit-forward tones that affirm the bounty of its primary ...Read More »

2011 La Monacesca "Mirum" Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva (1.5L)

The Mirum is a big league wine. The level of flavor saturation, power, density and age-ability is remarkable. Mirum is harvested the third or fourth week in October, assuring the maximum amount of flavor, focus and richness on the palate, all coming together in a focused, textured, seamless experience. The wine is fermented in stainless steel for 20 days and then remains there for 18 months sur lie. (Greg St. Clair, K&L Italian wine buyer)

2010 Altesino Brunello di Montalcino 1.5L (Pre-Arrival)

95 points James Suckling: "Wonderful decadent aromas of musk, orange peel and plum follow through to a full body, with soft tannins and a long and rich finish. Salty and savory. Layers of gorgeous fruit. Drink or hold." (1/2015)93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Altesino's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino stands proud among its peers. No other wine I tasted among the new releases in Montalcino achieves this unique level of aromatic finesse and distinction. The bouquet is almost purely floral in character with a strong emphasis on pressed rose petal, dried violets and potpourri. The fruit tones are less emphatic and inclu ...Read More »

2010 Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

98 points James Suckling: "Crazy nose with chocolate, smoke, grilled meat, ripe fruits and walnuts. The palate is super and goes on for minutes with plum, berry, spice, chocolate, and nuts. Full body, velvety tannins and a long, long finish. Amazing quality. Goes on for minutes. Made from biodynamically grown grapes." (12/2014)95 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is gorgeous. A super-classic profile of sweet red cherries, smoke, tobacco, cedar and wild herbs lift from the glass in a perfumed, silky Brunello that captures the essence of Sangiovese in this cool, late-ripening vintage. 2012 Cantina Terlan "Gries" Lagrein 1.5L

This comes from a small suburb of Bolzano called Gries, where the alluvial soils are perfectly suited to Lagrein--a native grape that has been grown in the region since at least 1379. The fruit is manually harvested, slowly fermented in stainless and finished in mostly large wooden barrels (70%) and barriques (one-third new). Always a favorite, this cool climate red is ink-dark and packed with lifted dark berry fruit, fine tannins and exotic spice. It's particularly delicious with game, offal and aged cheeses.

1997 Fontodi "Flaccianello della Pieve" Toscana (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Antonio Galloni: "The 1997 Flaccianello della Pieve wraps around the palate with endless layers of dark fruit. In 1997 the grapes were very small because the intense heat of the year dehydrated the fruit. Dark red berries, pomegranate, spices, smoke, licorice, anise and rose petals burst from the glass with notable energy, power and grace. Even with all of its intensity, the 1997 is beautifully balanced from start to finish. This racy, full-bodied Flaccianello can be enjoyed today or cellared for up to a decade." 2010 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino 1.5L (Pre-Arrival)

98 points James Suckling: "I really appreciate the dark-berry and burnt-orange aromas that follow through to a full body, very integrated tannins and a ripe, juicy fruit character. Savory, succulent and salty. Hints of chocolate and salted nuts. So juicy and gorgeous. A fabulous red. Drink now but also hold for years ahead." (1/2015)94 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is all about balance. Remarkably seamless for a young Brunello, the 2010 is also quite expressive and open at this stage, which is one of the signatures of the vintage. Bright red stone fruits, wild flowers and cinnamon a ...Read More »

2004 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona "Vigna di Pianrosso" Brunello di Montalcino (1.5l)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The estate’s 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso possesses striking depth as endless layers of sweet, perfumed fruit emerge with tons of grace. This, too, is an intense, full-bodied wine. The balance here is utterly exceptional, and the wine’s sheer plumpness makes for a highly rewarding glass of Brunello. Succulent dark cherries, spices, underbrush, minerals and new leather come to life as the wine sits in the glass, yet this remains a backward, structured Brunello in need of serious bottle age. The Pianrosso is a terrific effort from proprietor Paolo ...Read More »

2011 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia "Masseto" Toscana (1.5L)

It's long and incredible with tangerine, toasted-oak, berry, terracotta and chocolate flavors. It lasts for minutes on the palate. This needs at least five years to soften but so spellbinding now." (9/2014)97 points Wine Spectator: "Opulent and expressive, opening with coffee and vanilla aromas that lead to sweet plum and black cherry flavors. Leather, tobacco and iron notes contribute to the complexity. Lingers with a powerful, structured finish. Merlot. Bes ...Read More »

2007 Aldo Conterno Barolo "Cicala" 1.5L (Pre-Arrival)

96 points James Suckling: "This is stunning, with licorice, flowers and dark fruits all over. Full and super silky and sexy. I am in love with this wine already. It will age for decades, but it is so in harmony and beautiful now. Gorgeous." (5/2011)95 points Wine Spectator: "Scented with black cherry and plum, this international-style red shows plenty of smoky, toasty oak on the palate. It's rich, with sweet fruit, ample power and complexity, but will take some time to integrate the tannins. Best from 2016 through 2035. 300 cases imported. –BS" (4/2012)94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Barolo Cicala is every bit as compelling as the ...Read More »

2004 Rocche Dei Manzoni Barolo "Big'd Big" (1.5L)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The estate's 2004 Barolo Big 'd Big is an expansive wine loaded with primary fruit. Although it doesn't show the complexity of the Santo Stefano it does offer tons of fruit in a big, powerful style. Here too the oak is very well integrated. The wine shows remarkable balance and poise with awesome textural richness and power. Notes of smoke, tobacco, earthiness and licorice emerge with air, but this remains a distinctly fruit-driven style of Barolo typical of the Mosconi vineyard. (AG)" (10/2008)92 points Wine Spectator: "Very floral, with hints of strawberry. Delicate and aromatic ...Read More »

This goes on for minutes on the palate. A savory, gorgeous wine. Drink or hold." (1/2015)92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Full of tension and energy, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a beautiful wine that does honor to the magnificent 2010 vintage. The fruit nuances are layered and plentiful with loads of cherry, cassis and blackberry to keep your interest. The tannins are smooth and ripe with sweet overtones. 2009 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino 1.5L (Pre-Arrival)

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. Mesmerizingly pure and intense aromas of raspberry, sour red cherry, minerals, licorice and violet. Sweet, lush and deep, with outstanding clarity and lift to the pure flavors of red cherry, raspberry and flint. Pristine and very long on the vibrant finish, which features extremely sophisticated tannins and superb length. The wine's minerally, flinty quality runs through from nose to aftertaste. A paradigm of cooler-climate Montalcino sangiovese, this is the year's best Brunello, and it will cost you a fraction as much as more famous Brunello ...Read More »

Full body, very fine tannins with a mineral, berry and orange-peel and Tuscan-dust undertone. A structured, salty, savory finish. Better in 2017." (1/2015)92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Castello Banfi's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is one of the ripest wines I have tasted from this vintage. The bouquet opens to chewy tones of cherry or raspberry preserves with dried prunes and figs at the back. This is no surprise considering the softly sloping, sea-facing vineyards located in the lower part of the ...Read More »

2011 San Giusto a Rentennano "La Ricolma" Toscana (1.5L)

Dark red and black-toned fruit, cloves, menthol, spices and licorice meld together in a supple, radiant wine endowed with notable depth and nuance. Lavender, jasmine and a host of floral notes add gorgeous perfume on the finish. Of all the San Giusto wines, Ricolma seems to get the least attention, but it can be superb, as it is again in 2011." This is a hallmark Super Tuscan, that's been produced to great acclaim since 1985. A blend of estate-grown Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, it has a reputation for concentrated elegance. From the winemaker: "The 2012 growing season was characterized by an abundance of sunny, dry weather; some rain did fall as well, but it occurred in just the right periods, before the harvest, and helped the vines to cope with the hot, dry conditions. The result was an even, consistent ripening process that in the end yielded generous, full-v... Read More »

(1/2015)93 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is striking.
