2013 Cep (Peay Vineyards) Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Antonio Galloni: "The 2013 Pinot Noir is a tasty, fruity red to drink over the next year or two, while the fruit retains its juiciness. Hints of rose petal and cinnamon add attractive layers of complexity. The 2013 is 70% declassified Peay juice and 30% fruit purchased from nearby properties. Peay does an excellent job with Cep, their sister label of budget-friendly wines. All of these current releases are tasty. The Syrah is the standout, as it is made up of declassified barrels of the two Peay vineyard designate, Syrahs, while the other wines are conceived from the out ...Read More »

2013 Kenneth Volk "Jaybird-Unoaked" Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay

Jancis Robinson: "Special blocks are used for this unoaked wine: Sierra Madre and Cottonwood Canyon Vineyards. Peachy nose, lots of racy fruit. A bit hard on the end. Correct and fast fade." (3/2015) K&L Notes: From the winery: "The 2013 Jaybird has a distinct mineral, flinty aroma that is support by nuances of sliced pear and pineapple guava. On the palate, this wine is clean with refreshing acidity and flavors of apple and pear. This wine can be enjoyed as an aperitif, or paired with cuisine that calls for more acidity. It pairs well with raw fish and shellfish, or with sautéed seaf... Read More »

2012 Cep (Peay Vineyards) Sonoma Coast Syrah

90 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2012 Syrah Estate is gorgeous. Dark, red and plummy, the 2012 impresses for the purity of its fruit and radiance. Peay does not have a mid-tier Sonoma Coast bottling, so all the fruit that does not go into the two single-vineyard Syrahs goes into this tasty, entry-level bottling. Sweet floral notes grace the silky finish. Peay does an excellent job with Cep, their sister label of budget-friendly wines. All of these current releases are tasty. The Syrah is the standout, as it is made up of declassified barrels of the two Peay vineyard designate, Syra ...Read More »

2009 Peay Vineyards Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. An energetic, focused nose offers raspberry, cherry, fresh flowers, medicinal herbs and Asian spices. Then juicy, powerful and youthfully taut in the mouth, with very good mid-palate depth and expansive red berry flavors. The precise, refreshingly brisk finish leaves behind intense floral and mineral notes, along with a hint of white pepper." (6/2011)92 points Wine & Spirits: "Bold cherry and black raspberry flavors cut through the cool, earthy power of this wine like a shaft of sunlight through the coastal fog. The soft richness of the tannin carries an herbal note, ...Read More »

2013 Williams Selyem "Olivet Lane" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Silky, with pronounced tannins that should mellow in time, this is an earthy, stemmy and perfumed wine. Succulent and balanced, it’s brightly exuberant in black cherry yet brooding and complex throughout, changing slightly from savory to floral and back again. It’s an incredible wine out of the gate; cellar with confidence, through 2021." (7/2015)92 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2013 Pinot Noir Olivet Lane Vineyard is open, immediate and seductive, with radiant, expressive fruit and fabulous overall balance. Silky tannins add considerable polish to the suave finish. This supple, frui ...Read More »

2007 Peay "La Bruma" Sonoma Coast Syrah

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright purple. Vibrant raspberry, cherry, potpourri and incense on the sharply focused, highly expressive nose. Dense, juicy and sweet, with graceful strawberry and raspberry flavors and a supple, seamless texture. Picks up spiciness and floral character, as well as a hint of smoke, with a few minutes of aeration. Finishes very long, with gentle tannins and a strong note of candied flowers. I marginally prefer this wine's elegance to the power of the Les Titans today." (5/2010) K&L Notes: La Bruma ("the mist or fog") pays tribute to the role fog plays in producing th... Read More »

2008 Peay Vineyards "Les Titans" Estate Sonoma Coast Syrah

93 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Glass-staining purple. Spicy raspberry and candied cherry aromas are complicated by smoky minerals, dark chocolate and fresh violet. Sweet red berry flavors show very good depth and definition, with subtle anise, smoke and violet pastille qualities building with air. The clean finish offers a brisk bite of cracked pepper, a touch of darker fruit and very persistent spiciness. This very seductive syrah displays no rough edges and wonderful energy." 2009 Peay Vineyards "La Bruma" Estate Sonoma Coast Syrah

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby. Heady, exotically perfumed bouquet of blackberry, cherry-cola, licorice and incense, with a note of violet in the background. Sweet, ripe, silky and expansive, with a nervy spine of acidity providing focus to the sweet red and dark berry compote flavors. Sexy and approachable already but this seamless, very long syrah has the depth to age." (5/2012) K&L Notes: Peay's estate La Bruma Vineyard is one of the coolest sites in California growing Syrah. This translates to a style of Syrah more reminiscent in aroma and flavor to those produced in France's Rh... Read More »

2008 Peay Vineyards "La Bruma" Estate Sonoma Coast Syrah

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright purple. Sexy black raspberry and floral aromas are complicated by smoky minerals, Moroccan spices and a hint of licorice. Silky, alluringly sweet dark berry flavors pack a serious punch but come off as almost weightless, with tangy minerality adding spine and back-end cut. Gains weight and power with air and finishes with lingering smokiness and a hint of candied violet. This clocks in at a low 13.4% alcohol but hardly wants for power, depth or ripeness." (5/2011) Wine & Spirits: "A warm Syrah with the caramelized flavors of toasted oak, this is gentle, peppery and ...Read More »

2011 Denner "Ditch Digger" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (Wood Aged)

93 points Antonio Galloni: "Denner's 2011 Ditch Digger is a wine of great textural finesse. Sweet tobacco, dried herbs, flowers and spices all meld together beautifully in the glass. Silky, polished and utterly impeccable, the 2011 impresses for its balance and overall sense of harmony. Black olives, savory herbs and spices linger on the finish. This is yet another great showing from Denner. The blend is 40% Grenache, 30% Syra, 15% Mourvedre, 10% Cinsault and 5% Counoise. Anthony Yount is without question one of the most thoughtful and introspective winemakers in Paso Robles. Youn ...Read More »

2010 Denner "Ditch Digger" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another 2010 that is drinking brilliantly, the 2010 The Ditch Digger is a blend of 40% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 20% Mourvedre, 5% Counoise and 5% Cinsault that spent 16 months in 35% new 500-liter puncheons. Giving up deep plum, blackberry, mineral and earth, with additional floral qualities developing in the glass, this full-bodied, elegant blend has knockout purity of fruit, beautiful richness and no shortage of length on the finish. It will continue to dish out loads of pleasure over the coming 6-7 years or more. Drink now-2020. (JD)" (8/2013)93 points Wine Spectator: "Weaves togeth ...Read More »

2005 Gemstone "Facets" Yountville Proprietary Red (1.5L)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Facets is elegant, austere by the standards of California, and almost a dead-ringer for a Medoc from Bordeaux. The wine is dark ruby/purple-tinged with a floral, restrained nose of sweet cherries and soil and undertones of underbrush and barrique. The wine is medium-bodied, pretty, pure, and represents an attractive, French-styled blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot. It should drink nicely for 10-12 years." (12/2007)
