2000 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac Top Pick!
2000 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac

95 points Decanter: "Intense, focused, cedary nose. Super-ripe and sumptuous, highly concentrated, but has spice and vigour to counter the fruit. Massive, pungent; full of life and nuance. Long, vibrant finish. Drink from 2012. (19 points)" (11/2010)94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Upgraded in score over my original rating, which was several points lower, Alfred Tesseron has done a remarkable job since 1994 with Pontet-Canet, which has been hitting first-growth levels since 2003. But the 2000 also shows exceptionally well. In need of another decade of cellaring, this dense purple wine has a classic nose of i ...Read More »

2000 Branaire-Ducru, St-Julien

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a wonderful, dense wine, very concentrated, very intensely flavored. At this stage of its development, it is the opulence which is most evident, but there are already hints that it will show pure fruit alongside sweet tannins, and will develop complexity." (6/2003)93 points James Suckling: "A delicious nose of black olives, brown sugar, and sliced plums. Full bodied but shy, with a dense palate and soft and silky tannins. The wine has a dark ruby/purple color just beginning to lighten at the edge. Notes of charcoal, acacia flowers, black raspberries, and blue fruits are followed by a medium to full-bodied wine that builds incrementally on the palate. 2000 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is one of the great wines of the vintage, and certainly a candidate for one of the finest wines made at this estate under the management of Christian Seeley and proprietor AXA. Showing incredibly well at two tastings of 2000s, the wine has a dense bluish/purple color and a beautiful nose of incense, melted asphalt, and creme de cassis as well as hints of new saddle leather and licorice. It is superbly concentrated and very pure, with excellent texture and opulence. The acidity seems low, the tannin high but well-integrated. This is a compelling 2000 ...Read More »

Wine Spectator: "Aromas of mint, berry and licorice follow through to a full-bodied palate that is thick and rich yet refined and reserved. This is dense and well-structured, with loads of vanilla, berry and lightly roasted fruit. Powerful but still holding back. Compacted and dense. (Web Only-2006)"

2000 Gruaud Larose, St-Julien

95 points Wine Spectator: "**Highly Recommended - Top 100 Wines of 2003** Absolutely wonderful aromas of flowers, currants and citrus. Full-bodied, yet very, very refined, with a center core of fruit that tastes like crushed raspberries and goes on and on. Greatest wine from this estate since 1945. Best after 2010." (3/2003)94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A very strong effort for Gruaud Larose, possibly eclipsed by what they have done in 2009, this is a pure, full-bodied Gruaud Larose with plenty of new saddle leather, cedar wood, black currants, cherries, licorice, and Provencal herbs. Spicy, earthy, full-bodied ...Read More »

2000 Smith Haut Lafitte, Pessac-Léognan
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2000 Smith Haut Lafitte, Pessac-Léognan (95RP, 93WE, 90ST, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One can’t say enough about this winery, which may still fly under the radar of most consumers. The fully mature 2000 displays gorgeous aromas of camphor, lead pencil shavings, unsmoked tobacco, plums, and black currants. With full body, a velvety texture, and beautiful weight, richness, and length, this superb wine should evolve, possibly improve for another 15 years. It’s a beauty!" (06/2010)

2000 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2000 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (96RP, 96WE, 95WS, 94ST, 93JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In short, I find this to be a spectacular Pichon Lalande. Dense purple in color, with loads of coffee, mocha, creme de cassis, and chocolate notes, this is a somewhat unusual blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and a whooping 10% Petit Verdot, with a little bit of Cabernet Franc. The Petit Verdot certainly gives the wine more of a tapenade, floral note, which I think can be interpreted by some as herbal. This is a rich, opulent, stunning Pichon Lalande that is beginning to drink beautifully, yet should continue to improve for at least another 10-15 years and last 30 or more years." (06/2010)

This lot contains the following items:
2000 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (qty: 3)

2000 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac Top Pick!
2000 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac

100 points James Suckling: "The nose is fresh, bright, and dense. With aromas of violets, minerals, spices, cool stones, mint, dark fruits, and plum skins, this is beautiful. Very much still a baby right now, it needs much more time. This is a wine for the next generation. Finesse and elegance, truly a wine that makes you contemplate life. This is not about power, there is really nothing like it. 93% Cabernet Sauvignon. Do not even think about touching this for another ten years, 2020." (2/2011)100 points Wine Spectator: "*Collectibles* Subtle aromas of currants, leather, tobacco and cedar. Classic cigar box n ...Read More »

2000 Beychevelle, St-Julien

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "If any wine could be described as beautiful, then Beychevelle is beautiful. Its flavors of liquorice and blackcurrant are smooth and opulent, well proportioned. The texture is rich, ripe and generous." (6/2003)92 points Wine Spectator: "Wonderful floral and blackberry aromas follow through to a compressed palate of full-bodied tannins and ripe fruit. Yet very fine and silky on the palate. Best Beychevelle I have had in years. Best after 2009." (3/2003)91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep ruby/purple in color, with a sweet nose of black currants, earth, licorice, and mineral, the 2000 is relatively powerful and den ...Read More »

2000 Margaux, Margaux

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium-bodied, with layers of concentration, stunning blue, red, and black fruits intermixed with spring flowers, a subtle dosage of new oak, and a distinctive personality that is elegant while at the same time powerful and substantial, this is a multi-dimensional wine that was extremely approachable and drinkable in both tastings I had of it. The color remains a healthy, even opaque bluish/purple, but there is no reason to hesitate to drink it. It should evolve for another 30-40 years, so there is no hurry either. (RP)" (6/2010)100 points Wine Spectator: "Muscular yet classy. Breat ...Read More »

2000 Malescot-St-Exupéry, Margaux

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This estate, which has continued to impress me in recent years, hit a home run in 2000. Showing slightly better than I rated it previously, this wine is deep bluish/purple with some lightening at the edge, and its floral nose displays notes of melted licorice, crushed rock, blueberries and black raspberries. A wine of extraordinary balance, equilibrium, and purity, with supple tannins, this medium to full-bodied, concentrated effort is already compelling and has hit its window of full maturity, where it should stay for another 15-20 years. (RP)" (6/2010)93 points Wine Spectator: "I ...Read More »
