Negroamaro is a red wine grape variety native to southern Italy. It is grown almost exclusively in Puglia and particularly in Salento, the peninsula which can be visualised as the “heel” of Italy. Wines made from Negroamaro tend to be very rustic in character, combining perfume with an earthy bitterness. Delicious pink wine, some of the first Nebbiolo rosé of the season. Pink like a perfect spring sunset. Pink like...an earthworm. Indeed, Proprietà Sperino, located in the historic district of Ori in northern Piedmont, also produces worm cast humus in its own production facility, Utilizing millions of Californian red earthworms. Serve cold.
Erste e Neue is a highly revered co-op located high up in the Mediterranean Alps in the Alto Adige region of Northeast Italy, where it is primarily famous for producing racy, refreshing, and mineral-driven white wines from the varietals that thrive there. Lagrein is a relatively rare red grape indigenous to Alto Adige which is the offspring of the ancient variety Teroldego. The Oxford Companion to wine describes Lagrein as producing a "fragrant and sturdy" rosato, and we couldn't agree more.
