It was mostly grown at Gundagai (92%) with input from grapes grown in the Canberra and Hilltops wine regions. 25% whole bunches. It tastes of roasted nuts, red cherries, undergrowthy herbs and woodspice. Its balance is impeccable, as is the wrap of tannin though the juicy finish. Exciting face of Aussie shiraz." A saturated purple color, it presents an array of otherworldly scents including smoke, mineral, meat, game, bacon, and blueberry. Thick, rich, and voluptuous, this mouth-filling, full-bodied Shiraz is about as hedonistic as it gets. 1999 Penfold's "St. Henri" Shiraz South Australia

92 points Wine Spectator: "Remarkably supple and seamless, holding back on its beautiful, ripe blackberry, cherry, leather and pepper flavors until they come through almost as a second wave, swamping the finish and begging for another sip. A different flavor seems to emerge first with each sip. This is made with no new oak, and the fruit character is intoxicating in a wine of such refinement. Drink now through 2020. 17,000 cases made." (09/03) According to Robert Parker: "The deep dark ruby/purple-colored 1999 Shiraz St. Henri possesses clean black curr... Read More »

2002 Branson Coach House "Greenock Block" Shiraz

92 points Robert Parker: "...a classic, old style Australian Shiraz aged in American oak. Its deep plum purple color is accompanied by damp earth, pepper, fig, and black currant characteristics. Chewy, intensely concentrated, and nearly opver the top, it is not for those who seek elegant, light-bodied wines with restrained fruit flavors. This muscular, mach-styled red should drink well for 10-12 years." (01/04) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Firm in texture, an immensely refined style that weaves in some earthy, gamy notes through the dark, ripe berry and s... Read More »

2001 Penfolds "Grange" Shiraz South Australia
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2001 Penfolds "Grange" Shiraz South Australia (98RP, 94ST, 93WE, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It is always a treat to taste Australia’s most famous wine, Penfolds’ Grange cuvee (the word Hermitage has been dropped because of legal issues). The 2001 Grange is one of the few vintages of this cuvee to be composed of 100% Shiraz (the others being 1951, 1952, 1963, 1999, and 2000). Aged 17 months in 100% American oak, and tipping the scales at 14.5% alcohol, the 2001 is undeniably one of the top examples of this wine. At this stage, it appears to eclipse the 1998 and 1996. Inky/blue/purple to the rim, with a stunning perfume of blueberries, blackberries, chocolate, graphite, and earth, it boasts good acidity, huge tannins, magnificent concentration, and a multilayered, textured mouthfeel. It is a big, but impeccably well-balanced Shiraz that should shed some of its structure and tannin over the next 4-5 years, and be at its best between 2010-2030+. (98+

2002 Penfolds "RWT" Shiraz Barossa Valley

94 points James Halliday: "Deep colour; lots of new French oak on both bouquet and palate, but also plenty of dark fruits; very good mouthfeel and texture, ripe tannins; given the benefit of the oak doubt." (7/2011)93 points Wine Spectator: "Muted aromas, but it's generous and jazzy in the mouth. Lively, with blackberry, cherry and white pepper flavors remaining zingy through the long, harmonious finish. Hints at white chocolate as the flavors linger. Tannins are firm, but fine. Drink now through 2020." (9/2005)92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the “Rewards of Patience” vertical in Berlin. The 2002 RWT Barossa Valley Shiraz has a ve ...Read More »
