2005 Heitz Cellar "Trailside" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Wine Spectator: "This fine new release, with some bottle age, shows signs of subtle maturity. Aromas of mocha, cedar, dried currant and spice box follow through to a full body, This is well-built, with fine balance and good length. (Web-2011)" K&L Notes: In the early 1980s, the Heitz Family acquired a marvelous Rutherford vineyard bordered on one side by the Silverado Trail and nudged on the other by the Conn Creek. Thus the Trailside Vineyard was born. Aged for three-and-a-half years in a combination of American and French Limousin oak, the 2005 is elegantly perfumed to complement a... Read More »

2005 Pride Mountain Napa/Sonoma Counties Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The deep ruby/purple-colored 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (58% from Napa and 42% from Sonoma) possesses a full-bodied mouthfeel as well as loads of cassis fruit, and smoky, subtle oak in the background. Round, plump, and hedonistic, it should drink well for a decade. (RP)" (12/2007)92 points Wine Enthusiast: "A big, juicy young Cab that impresses for sheer flashiness, yet needs some time for its edges to soften. The ripe blackberry and cassis fruit is deep and generous, with nuances of smoky oak and sweet herbs. But the tannins are very strong and astringent. Needs cellar time. Best afte ...Read More »

2005 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The opaque purple-hued 2005 exhibits an extraordinary nose of violets, creme de cassis, charcoal, and spring flowers. Gorgeously pure, opulently full-bodied, with sweet tannins, superb concentration, and a low acid, ripe, tannic finish, it tastes like a top-notch vintage of ripe Bordeaux, but made in California. It can be drunk now and over the next 20-25 years. Bravo! (RP)" (12/2008)93 points Antonio Galloni: "A dark, implosive wine, the 2005 Opus One comes across as brooding and very much closed in on itself. Tar, graphite, menthol, licorice and plums inform the powerful, structur ...Read More »

2005 Ghost Block Estate Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

Nestled on a gently sloping knoll, Ghost Block vineyard is named in honor of Napa's pioneer winemakers who rest in a tiny 150 year old cemetery on the north edge of Yountville - the epicenter of Napa Valley. Graced with perfect drainage and sunny exposure, Ghost Block Vineyard is a jewel, an heirloom, passed down through a single family for over 100 years. The 2004 got 92 points from the Wine Spectator, and this 2005 is sure to garner its share of 90+ points from the pundits. It offers scary good blackberry and cassis fruit, with firm though silky tannin... Read More »

2005 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Sonoma/Napa Counties Claret

95 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Among the richest and most outgoing wines in this issue, Pride's Reserve Claret is a fully extravagant wine that trades equally on deep fruit, ripeness and a wealth of lavish oak spice, but it never crosses over the line of being too much. Its tantalizing plumpness and succulent Merlot properties are offset just now by a bit of Cabernet toughness that prescribes a bit of patience, and make no mistake about it, this compelling effort is certainly bound for better, and it will continue to unfold for six to twelve years and last longer." 2005 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain is a huge, powerful wine that is starting to show the very earliest signs of development. An exotic melange of smoke, tar, camphor and licorice leads to expressive, fleshy fruit as the 2005 opens up in the glass. Hints of tobacco, leather, licorice and spices are layered into the finish. This is a gorgeous wine with lovely mid-palate presence and fleshiness. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2035. I tasted a large number of wines with Randy Dunn this year. These are some of the most powerful, age worthy Cabernets bei ...Read More »

2005 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Sonoma/Napa Counties Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Wine Spectator: "*Top 100 Wines of 2008* Rich and complex, brimming with dense, opulent yet elegant layers of mocha, black cherry, blackberry and wild berry fruit that's pure, focused, deep and persistent, ending with mouthcoating flavors and ripe, fleshy tannins." (10/2008)94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is the densest, most tannic of Pride’s new releases, obviously meant for the cellar. You could drink it now, because it’s so lush, but the tightness suggests that the winemaker doesn’t want you to. Buried under the astringency are masses of cassis, dark chocolate, sweet fresh herbs and smoky oak. ...Read More »

2005 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red-ruby. Musky aromas of cassis, licorice, game, tobacco leaf and subtle brown spices. Velvety-sweet and deep, with hints of tobacco leaf, mint and herbs giving definition to the middle palate. Nicely bright but youthfully tight wine, finishing with broad tannins. Carrying a moderate 13.5% alcohol. Still tight, but then this won't be released until next winter. Incidentally, following Silver Oak's purchase of a vineyard in Soda Canyon in 1999, this wine now relies less on contract fruit." It is so dry, so richly structured in tannins and acids, so pure through the long, spicy finish, that it easily deserves its high score. Will age well for up to a decade." (2/2009)92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good full ruby-red. Musky aromas of dried cherry, cedar, fresh herbs, incense and tobacco. 2005 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep ruby-red. Complex aromas of currant, licorice, graphite, bitter chocolate, smoked meat, tobacco and brown spices. Began juicy, penetrating and quite youthfully unevolved, but aeration brought a suppler, rounder texture and more generosity to this impressively structured wine. Complicating notes of bitter cherry, menthol and minerals. This will require a good eight to ten years of aging but the substantial tannins are sweet and lush. Very long, pure and powerful on the finish." (6/2008)91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The flagship wine, the 2005 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvig ...Read More »

2005 Philip Togni "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon is a more closed and restrained style of wine, with firm tannins, Bordeaux-like austerity, but dense ruby/purple with notes of menthol, black currant liqueur, coffee, and a hint of olive. The wine is full-bodied, youthful, tannic, and a promising candidate for long-term cellaring. In fact this kind of vintage at Togni generally means laying the wine away for at least a decade, which is always good advice here. This may be a 30- to 40-year Togni Cabernet Sauvignon. 2005 Caravan (Darioush) Napa Cabernet Sauvignon

Caravan is the second label from Napa Valley powerhouse Darioush. Winemaker Steve Devitt aims for a rounder, more fruit-forward wine here and a more moderate price point. The fruit comes from two estate vineyards to help achieve the softer palate. Ripe berries and cherries make up this wine's core, highlighted by hints of cola, coffee and chocolate. Substantial amounts of petit verdot (19%) add floral notes, while a splash of malbec (2%) adds blueberry flavors on the finish. 2005 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (97RP, 96JS, 96ST, 95WE, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Not unexpectedly, the 2005 Harlan Estate performed slightly better than it did last year. As these wines often do, it continues to put on weight as it is bottled very late by Napa standards, and there is no fining or filtration. The 2005 exhibits a gorgeous thick-looking, ruby/purple color in addition to a beautiful nose of burning embers interwoven with creme de cassis, roasted meats, sweet black truffles, and spring flowers. A hint of lead pencil shavings also emerges from this cuvee, which seems to want to be both a Pauillac and a ripe vintage of La Mission Haut Brion. Full-bodied, dense, pure, and revealing sweeter tannin than I remember, it can be drunk now, but it will no doubt display even greater complexity in 10, 20, and 30 years. (RP)" (12/2008)

This wine needs 3-4 years of bottle age, and should last 25-30 years. (RP)" (12/2007)93 points Antonio Galloni: "Deep ruby-red. 2005 Grace Family Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Grace Family Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (93ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, saturated ruby-red. Deep aromas of black fruits, violet, tobacco, licorice, minerals, nuts and earth. Lush, rich and sweet, with an intriguing smoky character and lovely lightness for a wine with so much breadth and volume. Unusually powerful and deep for this bottling; complex and distinctive. In a rather Old World style, with complex soil tones currently dominating primary fruitiness. Finishes broad and dry, with very lush, fine tannins. A superb vintage for this estate. Winemaker Brookman noted that this was a large crop but the team made three separate passes through the vines to reduce the crop level and then harvested later than ever here. The Grace wine was once aged in all new barrels but as of 2005 that percentage has been cut to 80% to 85%. (ST)" (06/2008)

It boasts a deep ruby/purple color along with a striking bouquet of blue and black fruits intermingled with acacia flowers, lead pencil shavings, and licorice, excellent fruit, medium to full body, substantial but sweet tannins, and compelling harmony among its acidity, alcohol, tannin, and extract. Wine Enthusiast: "This is a very dry, richly textured Cabernet, vast in blackberry, black currant and cedar flavors, with the smooth, complex tannins Oakville is known for." (12/2010) K&L Notes: Among the tapestry of historic vineyards in Napa Valley, there are a few standout names, but even fewer sites, if any, involve the rare combination of legendary wine, romance, and a touch of mystery. Bonny's Vineyard is such a place. This four-acre vineyard in the Oakville District is both a special piece of land and a unique part of Napa history. It was planted in 1974 by Justin Meyer, the wi... Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Futo "OV" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend. Winemaker's notes: "A strong compliment to the FUTO blend, the 2005 OV displays dark brooding aromas of black cherry, blackberry and toasty oak. The mouthfeel is rich and thick. Flavors focus on brambly fruit with smoky minerality. Finish is long and savory with a good grip of tannin. Drink now or cellar, both options are there. The name is our nod to Oakford Vineyards, which once occupied part of the Futo estate. For two decades Oakford grew and produced wines of character that were true to the property. The wine is dark ruby/purple-tinged with a floral, restrained nose of sweet cherries and soil and undertones of underbrush and barrique. The wine is medium-bodied, pretty, pure, and represents an attractive, French-styled blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot.
