1996 Corbin Michotte, St-Emilion Top Pick!
1996 Corbin Michotte, St-Emilion

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine follows in the style of most Corbin-Michottes, even though the vintage had a tendency to produce tannic, hard wines. However, Corbin-Michotte seems to always aim for ripeness, and a seductive, forward fruity style with no hard edges. The dark ruby-colored 1996 is round and soft, with plenty of herb-tinged berry fruit intermixed with smoke and earth. (RP)" (4/1999)

2007 La Prade, Cotes de Francs Top Pick!
2007 La Prade, Cotes de Francs

Wine Spectator: "Aromas of licorice, tar and some blackberry lead to a medium body, with light tannins and a fruity, delicate finish." K&L Notes: Château La Prade, just four and a half hectares, was purchased by the Thienpont family in 2000. Despite the tiny size, part of the vineyards are on the limestone plateau and the rest are on a south-facing slope rich in iron. This somewhat unique terroir results in a rich Merlot-dominated blend with great structure. We tasted this wine on our April 2014 Bordeaux trip and bought it on the spot. Delicious, fruit-forward wine to enjoy for th... Read More »

(RH)" (6/2013) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This appears to be an attractive, elegant, strong effort from Tertre-Daugay. The wine shows deep, sweet, herb-tinged black cherry and currant fruit intermixed with some spice box and fruitcake. It is elegant, medium-bodied, sweet..." Better than 2009. Try in 2017." (2/2013)92 points Wine Spectator: "This delivers the profile of the vintage, with spice-infused raspberry, boysenberry and blackberry fruit coursing along nicely, followed by delineated anise and spice notes, all carried by a racy graphite spine. So enjoyable already. Best ever from here? Better in 2015." (2/2013)92 points Wine Spectator: "This has a really nice graphite frame that drives the core of fig, plum and boysenberry fruit authoritatively, with dense ganache, espresso and tar on the finish. 2012 Seigneurs d'Aiguilhe, Côtes de Castillon Top Pick!
2012 Seigneurs d'Aiguilhe, Côtes de Castillon

This is the second wine from Château d'Aiguilhe, in the far east of Bordeaux. Proprietor and winemaker Stephan von Neipperg is also responsible for the greatness that lies in each bottle of Château Canon-La-Gaffelière, Clos l'Oratoire, Château Peyreau and La Mondotte. The cepage is overwhelmingly Merlot, with a small percentage of Cabernet Franc. The property dates back to the 12th century and is linked to the Knights Templar. The current château, a "fortified farmhouse," was built in the 13th century. The Right Bank terroir, with its clay-limestone soil... Read More »

(11/2009) Wine & Spirits: "The aroma is complex and layered with rich cherries and smoky oak tones. This is a smooth-textured, traditional St-Emilion. A bit of bottling sulfur will dissipate as the wine ages, and the tannins will soften up for a steak." (10/2008) Wine Spectator: "Vanilla, licorice and violet aromas follow through to a medium-to-full body, with silky tannins and a medium finish. (Web-2008)" K&L Notes: Wow! (3/2013) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An impressively opulent wine for its price point, the 2010 exhibits notes of vanillin intermixed with spice box, licorice, Provencal ...Read More »

2000 La Conseillante, Pomerol

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "La Conseillante made an excellent wine in 2001, another great one in 2005, and the estate hit home runs in both 2008 and, above all, in 2009. In fact, the latter vintage may well end up being the modern-day reference point for La Conseillante. Nevertheless, there’s a lot to be said for this 2000. An elegant, gentle style that is never a blockbuster, the 2000 La Conseillante has a deep ruby/plum/purple color and an unbelievably expressive nose of sweet kirsch liqueur intermixed with raspberries, incense, toast, and licorice. Full-bodied yet ethereal in th ...Read More »

2014 Beauséjour (Duffau), St-Emilion (Pre-Arrival)

94-97 points Antonio Galloni: "Power and finesse collide in the 2014 Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse, a breathtaking, vertical wine that hits all the right notes. Sweet black cherries, smoke, licorice and tar are some of the many notes that flesh out. The 2014 is quite dark and brooding in personality. I imagine the 2014 will drink beautifully for decades, although it is also going to need quite a bit of time to fully come together. There is so much to like here. Tiny yields in the Cabernet Franc resulted in a Beauséjour with more Merlot than is the norm. The 2014 is magnificen ...Read More »

1982 Troplong Mondot, St-Emilion (Previously $210)

Jancis Robinson: "Very dark crimson. Bit fragile. Very, very dry and dusty." (7/2002) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full, dark red, with an amber rim. Rather syrupy aromas of coffee, mocha and alcohol. Dense and thick but somewhat weedy; fairly penetrating and concentrated, but beginning to lose its fruit...." (7/2002)

2005 Soleil, Puissieguin St-Emilion

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Soleil's 2005 displays a gaudy bouquet of black currant fruit and roasted Provencal herbs, a fat, fleshy texture, decent acidity, and sweet tannin. Consume it over the next 5-6 years. (RP)" (8/2008) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, deep red. Wild aromas of black raspberry, mocha and truffle. Lush and sweet if a bit simple, with flavors of sweet raspberry, mocha and truffle. Finishes with plenty of tannic spine, but the tannins arrive late." (6/2008) Wine Spectator: "Offers gorgeous plum and blackberry character, with hints of flowers. Full-bodied, with supersilky tannins and a long, caressing finish ...Read More »

2003 Clos les Lunelles, Castillon

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This 21+ acre vineyard planted on a clay and limestone plateau consists of 38-year-old Merlot (80%), Cabernet Franc (10%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%). It was acquired by Gerard and Chantal Perse in 2001, and in less than two years has become the reference point winery for the Cotes de Castillon ... not surprising in view of the commitment to excellence exhibited by the Perses. Made from tiny yields of less than 20 hectoliters per hectare, the blockbuster 2003 tips the scales at 13.5% alcohol. It reveals a peppery, spicy, incense-laced bouquet interwove ...Read More »

2000 Le Bon Pasteur, Pomerol

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Seemingly fully mature, Michel and Dany Rolland’s seductive 2000 Bon Pasteur reveals a dark garnet/plum color along with a big, sweet kiss of soy, cedar, roasted herbs, blackberries, caramelized black cherries, and hints of smoke and kirsch. This fleshy, full-bodied Pomerol reveals low acidity, a savory, broad mid-palate, and a decade of life ahead of it. (RP)" (6/2010) 90-92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated deep ruby. Flamboyant nose combines dark berries, minerals, lead pencil, bitter chocolate, roasted herbs and espresso. Dense, concentrated and firmly structured, with mineral and ...Read More »

1989 Le Bon Pasteur, Pomerol (Previously $120)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine has reached full maturity very quickly. The wine shows some amber at the edge, with a sweet nose of roasted coffee intermixed with caramel, mocha, black cherry, and tobacco. The wine is medium-bodied, beautifully sweet and fleshy on the attack, but then narrows out ever so slightly in the mouth. There remains some tannin to be resolved. Anticipated maturity: Now-2014.Last tasted, 12/02." (1/2003) Wine Spectator: "Earthy and decadent. Dark ruby-garnet. Aromas of black olives, berries and meat. Full-bodied, chewy, with lots of tannins and a sweet fruit and earth af ...Read More »

1994 Petrus, Pomerol Top Pick!
1994 Petrus, Pomerol

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "After several uninspiring efforts between 1978 and 1988, it is irrefutable that Christian Moueix and his flagship estate, Petrus, have rebounded with a vengeance, producing a bevy of extraordinary wines, even in rain-plagued vintages such as 1992 and 1993. Opaque purple/black in color, with a sweet vanilla, pain grillee, jammy cherry and cassis-scented nose, this full-bodied, densely packed wine reveals layers of flavor, and an inner-core of sweetness with huge quantities of glycerin and depth. A tannic, classic style of Petrus, with immense body, great ...Read More »

2001 Vieux-Château-Certan, Pomerol

96 points James Suckling: "This wine possess great beauty, it is almost Burgundian with its soft tannins and sweet fruit. Pure class and finesse in this, it is round and thick, long and very yummy. No need to wait on this, pull the cork. This vintage had more Merlot than the 2000 and you can tell. A subtle wine." (5/2012)94 points Wine Spectator: "Very subtle aromas of blackberries, chocolate and plums follow through to a full-bodied palate, with very silky tannins and a long, caressing finish. An excellent wine with great intensity for the vintage. Very long indeed. Winemaker and part-owner Alexandre Thienp ...Read More »

1995 l'Evangile, Pomerol

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep red-ruby. Deep, superripe, fully expressed aromas of black raspberry, chocolate, smoke and leather, plus a ripe vegetal nuance that contributes complexity. Velvety, lush and full in the mouth, but rather closed following the bottling; the wine sweetness is currently restrained. Conveys a sense of brooding power. The silky, fine tannins hit the palate very late. A superb vintage for this wine." (6/1998)93 points Wine Spectator: "Beautiful aromas of crushed berries, chocolate and spices follow through to a full-bodied palate, with fine tannins and a spicy, refined aftertaste.
