2012 Domaine la Garrigue "La Cantarelle" Vacqueyras Top Pick!
2012 Domaine la Garrigue "La Cantarelle" Vacqueyras

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The most impressive of the trio, the 2012 Vacqueyras La Cantarelle is an incredible blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah that spent 24 months all in concrete tanks. It too is a custom cuvee between Eric Solomon, Philippe Cambie and the Bernard family. Named after a house that’s located in the vineyard, it comes from 100+-year-old vines and primarily limestone soils, and there’s a scant 600 cases to go around. Inky purple in color, it gives up meaty aromas and flavors of olive tapenade, cassis, melted licorice and earth to go with a very full-bodied, volup ...Read More »

2012 Domaine Courtois "La Grange" Vinsobres Top Pick!
2012 Domaine Courtois "La Grange" Vinsobres

Wine Spectator: "A fresh and racy style, with violet-edged plum and raspberry fruit that drives through the stone-tinged finish. Grenache and Syrah. Drink now. 1,300 cases made." (9/2014) K&L Notes: Courtois is a property acquired by the Jaume family in 2003. The winery itself had fallen into disrepair but the vineyards were in remarkable condition. What distinguishes Vinsobres is its elevation, with vineyards sitting at 350 to 450 meters, and the latitude being the northernmost of the Côtes du Rhône crus.

2012 J.L. Chave Selection "Mon Coeur" Côtes du Rhône

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Youthful purple color. Ripe dark berry and cherry-cola scents are enlivened by a peppery quality and a hint of violet. Round and fleshy on the palate, offering gently sweet blackberry and cassis flavors and a zesty spine of acidity. Finishes long and spicy, with building sweetness, soft tannins and a hint of smokiness." (3/2014)90 points Wine Spectator: "Bay leaf, olive and iron notes weave around a core of steeped black cherry and black currant fruit, with a sanguine accent leaving a mouthwatering edge on the finish. 2012 Michel Gassier "Cercius Vieilles Vignes" Côtes du Rhone Villages Visan Rouge

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A joint venture between Gassier, Philippe Cambie, and importer Eric Solomon, the 2012 Cercius Vieilles Vignes is a year in, year out ridiculous value that also drinks well past its humble price point. Comprised of 85% Grenache and 15% Syrah that was aged for 6 months in concrete, it has loads of raspberry, licorice, mineral and Provencal herbs as well as a soft, supple and silky textured feel on the palate. Rejoice Tavel! In a time when very high quality rosés line our shelves, when pink wines from Spain, the U.S., South Africa, Italy and all over the land of France are finally getting some much-deserved attention in the press and from our customers, we must give Tavel its special due. This is the original rosé appellation. In fact, so good is the fabled rosé from Tavel, that by law no other sort of wine can call itself Tavel! 2013 Château de Montfaucon "Comtesse Madeleine" Côtes du Rhône Blanc

From the winery: "This white wine is made in the same spirit as Baron Louis and with a lot of delicacy. All the grapes (Marsanne, Viognier, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Picpoul) are picked by hand in 20 kg cases and pressed directly. I let the juice settle naturally for ten to twenty hours before racking it into oak barrels where the wine ferments naturally without temperature control. The idea is to respect the natural expression of the vineyard with minimum intervention. The wine ages eight months in barrels before bottling."

As usual, this wine punches well above its category and should reward at least another four or five years of patience. Beautifully fresh and classic Viognier, it offers notions of lychee nut, white peach, flowers and big minerality (especially for a wine at this price point) to go with a rich, pure, supple palate. Lush and pliant, offering juicy red fruit and lavender pastille flavors that become spicier with air. Silky tannins add grip and shape to the long, spice-accented finish, which shows superb clarity and thrust. (JR)" (1/2014)93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A step up over the traditional cuvee, the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is made from 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre, all destemmed, that was aged 60% in demi-muid and 40% in tank. 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Leading off the 2012s, the Saint Joseph les Coteaux is a solid value that offers classic saddle leather, ground herbs, pepper and sweet blackberry and raspberry fruit. 2012 Eric et Joël Durand "Lautaret" St-Joseph

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even better, the 2012 Saint Joseph Cuvee Lautaret sports an inky purple color to go with fabulous notes of ripe black raspberry, cassis, licorice, beef blood and leather. Full-bodied, concentrated and textured, with lots of sweet tannin, it’s a serious Saint Joseph that readers need to buy. (JD)" (12/2014)92 points Wine Spectator: "Dark roasted plum and fig fruit is melded with succulent licorice and ganache notes in this red, which is broad and fleshy in feel, with an echo of iron on the finish. 2012 M. Chapoutier "Le Méal" Ermitage Blanc (Pre-Arrival)

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A wine that seems to pack more and more quality with each vintage, the 2012 Ermitage le Meal Blanc is borderline perfection, and didn't lose a beat being served beside the de l’Orée and l'Ermite. Flamboyant, ripe, honeyed and decadent, with thrilling white currants, buttered citrus, orange blossom and licorice, it too is a massive wine that will have decades of life. Make no mistake though, it's gorgeous even today. (JD)" (12/2014)96 points Wine Spectator: "This rolls along, featuring a honeyed edge and straw, heather and creamed apple notes, all gilded with pineapple, papaya and C ...Read More »

2012 Domaine Olivier Hillaire Châteauneuf-du-Pape

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the top classic cuvées, the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape (90% Grenache and 10% Syrah aged in a combination of different sized barrels) is medium to full-bodied, layered and downright sexy, with loads of sweet kirsch, blackberry, ground herbs and truffle. Already hard to resist, drink bottles over the coming 7-8 years. (JD)" (10/2014)90 points Antonio Galloni: "Opaque ruby. High-pitched aromas of spicy red berries, fresh flowers and peppery spices, with a hint of smokiness in the background. 2009 Domaine du Pégaü "Cuvée Réservée" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The bottled 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee is as compelling as I thought it would be after tasting it last year. A blend of 85% Grenache with the rest Syrah, Mourvedre and small dollops of the other authorized varietals, this wine tends to come from the estate’s holdings in the eastern sector of Chateauneuf du Pape. The opaque purple-colored 2009 exhibits magnificent, rich berry fruit intertwined with cedar, Christmas fruitcake, licorice, charcuterie, roasted meats, smoked duck, kirsch, blackberries and god knows what else. It is an amazingly co ...Read More »
