2012 Erik Banti "Carato" Toscana

This Carato is a blend of 75% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot and 10% Ciliegiolo and is just delicious; full, fleshy, voluptuous, sumptuous, truly hedonistic. It spends 10 months in Slavonian and American oak barriques, and we think at this price you too will be saying wow!

(10/2014)91 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2012 Torrione is seriously beautiful. Dark red cherry, plum, spice and mocha notes flesh out in a supple, radiant wine endowed with gorgeous depth and pure resonance. All the elements meld together in this gracious, juicy Sangiovese-based red from Petrolo. Dollops of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon round out the blend. 2012 Ferrero Toscana Rosso

Claudia Ferrero and her husband/winemaker Pablo Härri's estate is called the Podere Pascena and it sits in the southwesterly corner of Montalcino (they are bordered by Argiano and Banfi's Riserva vineyard "Poggio all'Oro"). The wines from this zone are really rich and you can feel the sun shining on these grapes, ripening, and filling them with a dense richness, while their wines show lots of black cherry, plum, chocolate with a satiny texture, round, full and broad on the palate. When we were first introduced to this winery, we thought it was so soft, f... Read More »

(10/2014)93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Giampaolo Motta’s 2012 La Massa wraps clean around the palate, imparting sassy tones of Mexican spice, tobacco and dark berry fruit. 2012 Poggio al Tufo "Rompicollo" Toscana

93 points Antonio Galloni: "Dark bright red. Amarone-like opulence on the nose and in the mouth, with a raisiny nuance to the ripe, soft red cherry, sweet spice and herb aromas and flavors. So velvety and opulent I would have tasted it in Veneto had I tasted it blind, but it’s so well balanced and smooth that it’s pretty irresistible. Finishes long, with lush, smooth tannins and a hint of residual sweetness. I really like this wine because, for all its showy sweetness and opulence, it manages to retain a graceful quality without going over the top. Amarone lovers will score it even ...Read More »

94 points Antonio Galloni: "Castello di Bossi's 2009 Merlot Girolamo is undeniably sexy. Plump, juicy and wonderfully expressive, the 2009 captures the very best qualities of the year. Dark cherries, plums, menthol and licorice all jump from the glass in this generous, inviting Tuscan Merlot. There is a lot to love about the 2009, starting with its impeccable balance. The purity of the fruit alone is striking. I am not sure how the 2009 is going to age, but it is drop-dead gorgeous today." (8/2013)94 points James Suckling: "Wow. 2011 Antinori "Solaia" Toscana (Previously $220.00) Top Pick!
2011 Antinori "Solaia" Toscana (Previously $220.00)

96 points Antonio Galloni: "Blackberry jam, cassis, grilled herbs and melted road tar meld together in the 2011 Solaia. Another super-exotic, racy 2011 from Antinori, Solaia is supremely beautiful. Mocha, espresso and sage are some of the many notes that add complexity. Hints of white truffle, lavender, smoke and licorice are laced into the exotic, racy finish. In 2011, Solaia has a dollop more of Cabernet Franc in the blend, added to give the wine a touch of freshness. This is a decidedly rich, layered Montevertine, with darker fruit than normal and plenty of richness, all of which means it will drink well pretty much right out of the gate. 2011 Ornellaia "Le Serre Nuove" Bolgheri

There is plenty of depth in the glass, but less of the appeal I saw just a few months ago. The high tannins of the vintage and the relatively large amount of Petit Verdot (14%) are both very marked at this stage in the wine's life. Readers holding the 2011 are best off cellaring their bottles for at least another 1-2 years. The 2011 Le Serre Nuove is a powerhouse. Bid on this bottle of 2004 Tenuta San Guido "Sassicaia" Bolgheri (97ST, 97WE, 94JS, 94WS, 93RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby-red. Captivatingly intense yet refined aromas of ripe red cherry, mint, smoke and black truffle, complicated by lovely mineral and floral elements. Ripe, rich and velvety on entry, then concentrated in the middle, with flavors of red cherry, cassis, spices, bay leaf, dark chocolate and espresso. Amazingly well balanced and fresh wine, with sound, bright acids supplying wonderful lift and precision and smooth, noble tannins adding considerable power and grace. The finish goes on for minutes, highlighted by an enchanting floral-mineral quality; in my experience, the appearance of this strong floral component (in the absence of herbal or peppery aromas and flavors more typical of lesser vintages) at this early stage of development is typical of the greatest versions of Sassicaia. One of the top dozen Sassicaia bottlings ever." (01/2011

2008 Petrolo "Galatrona" Toscana

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Each new vintage of Galatrona proves, year after year, the enormous potential of Italian Merlot. This is a soft and beautifully decadent wine with plush and perfectly ripe aromas of black cherry, light spice, chocolate and tobacco. The smoothness, richness and persistency is simply unbeatable." (10/2011)95 points James Suckling: "This shows lots of smoky and meaty aromas with black olives and brown sugar. Balsamic too! It's full-bodied and velvety with a beautiful finish. Why wait?" (9/2011)95 points Wine Spectator: "A powerful young Merlot, with green olive, sweet tobacco and tapenade character. Full and vel ...Read More »

2003 Antinori "Solaia" Toscana

95 points Wine Spectator: "* Collectibles * Fantastic aromas of crushed blackberry, licorice and strawberry. Full-bodied, with rich, velvety tannins and a long, fruity finish. Fruit-forward and exciting. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best after 2008." (10/2006)92 points Antonio Galloni: "Antinori's 2003 Solaia clearly reflects the personality of the dry, torrid vintage. The 2003 has aged impeccably. It will drink well for another decade, although the style will naturally always be on the opulent side of things." (12/2013)92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Despite the heat, this vintage lives up to the Solaia reputation with a slightly ...Read More »

2001 Tua Rita "Giusto di Notri"
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 Tua Rita "Giusto di Notri" (97RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "For the first time I preferred the Cabernet/Merlot blend to the all- Merlot wine, and there can be few doubts that the 2001 Giusto di Notri is a stunning wine. A blackish ruby/purple with a fabulous nose of textbook Cabernet aromas, black currants and blackberries, graphite, river gravel, and sweet herbs, its potent, dense, and packed palate displays flavors of perfect poise, grace and power intertwined and intermingled, shape and grip at the highest level from the initial explosive notes to the resonant, sweet finish. 2007 Bibi Graetz Testamatta Rosso

95 points Wine Spectator "Aromas of prune, dried flowers, porcini and cedar lead to a full body, with velvety tannins and lots of ripe fruit and milk chocolate. Long and very soft, yet powerful. Sangiovese. Best after 2011. 1,250 cases made." (10/09) 93 points Wine Advocate " Graetz’s 2007 Testamatta is soft and seamless as it flows onto the palate, revealing a silky, luxurious expression of fruit. The tannins are remarkably soft and well balanced, which makes the 2007 one of the most accessible young Testamattas I can recall tasting. Floral tones on t... Read More »
