1970 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine has been fully mature and delicious for many years, so I was not surprised by how stunning this bottle was. It has always been an outstanding wine for the vintage - complex, rich, savory, and the quintessentially elegant Bordeaux. 1970 d'Yquem, Sauternes

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Somewhat less evolved than the 1971, and for me always a shade less interesting and complex, the 1970 Yquem is a large-scaled, rich, full-bodied, fairly alcoholic Yquem with significant flavor interest as well as crisp acidity. Unlike the 1971, which is close to peak maturity, this wine has a long way to go and is impressive, but not yet revealing all of its potential. Anticipated maturity: Now-2025." (1/1998) Jancis Robinson: "Rich and very sweet with more than a hint of orange peel." (1/2012)

1970 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien (high to mid shoulder fills, bin soiled labels)

According to Michael Broadbent: "An excellent wine, still fairly deep, rich but showing some maturity. A soft, harmonious, slow-to-emerge but cedary, fragrant smoky bouquet, full rich, fleshy yet still tannic." 89 points from the Wine Spectator: "Deep garnet; concentrated cedar and tar nose, with hints of volatile acidity; very concentrated, with chewy cassis and cedar flavors; short of its peak; promising."
