2012 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend New!
2012 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Flirting with perfection, the 2012 Dominus is composed of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Five thousand cases were produced, a relatively modest amount from this large vineyard’s big crop. Christian Moueix told me that there was plenty of heat in 2012, but there were no excessive hot spells that can plague Napa Valley vintners during the growing season and harvest. This wine’s opaque plum/purple color is accompanied by a beautiful nose of sweet crème de cassis, a touch of background oak (only 40% new oak is used), spice box ...Read More »

2012 Walter Hansel "Estate" Russian River Valley Chardonnay Back In Stock!
2012 Walter Hansel "Estate" Russian River Valley Chardonnay

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Chardonnay Estate, from a vineyard planted in 1976 and 1989, was aged in 38% new Francois Freres barrels, and goes through malolactic with lees stirring for about 6-8 weeks. Another terrific value, this 1,000-case beauty exhibits lots of white peach, honeyed citrus, brioche and pineapple notes enhanced by a gentle seasoning of wood spice, a full-bodied mouthfeel and loads of fruit as well as exuberance. There is a heavy underpinning of minerality running through this attractive Chardonnay. (RP)" (12/2013)91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright yellow. 2005 Berthoud "Ursus Minor" Sonoma Valley Bordeaux Blend

Mike Berthoud worked under Richard Arrowood at Chateau St. Jean, then was winemaker at Arrowood Winery. After 15 years at Arrowood, Mike moved on to Mayo Family Winery. Ursus is comprised of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petite Verdot. Winemaker's notes: "As always all of the grapes used to produce the blend are grown on the Berthoud estate. Ursus is the Latin word for Bear, while Berthoud is pronounced Bear-2. Just like the bear, Ursus is a muscular wine while maintaining an elegant balance. It is an old world style wine that is... 2013 Belle Glos "Las Alturas" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

93 points Wine Spectator: "Spares no expense, with lavish smoke and black licorice-scented oak framing a rich core of dark berry, anise, boysenberry and savory herb notes. Full-blown and expressive through a persistent, mouthcoating finish. Drink now through 2024." (10/2014) K&L Notes: Winery notes: "Located in one of the highest-plantable sites in the southern portion of the Santa Lucia Highlands in Monterey County known as the "Mission District." 2005 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend Back In Stock!
2005 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The opaque purple-hued 2005 exhibits an extraordinary nose of violets, creme de cassis, charcoal, and spring flowers. Gorgeously pure, opulently full-bodied, with sweet tannins, superb concentration, and a low acid, ripe, tannic finish, it tastes like a top-notch vintage of ripe Bordeaux, but made in California. It can be drunk now and over the next 20-25 years. Bravo! (RP)" (12/2008)93 points Antonio Galloni: "A dark, implosive wine, the 2005 Opus One comes across as brooding and very much closed in on itself. 2004 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Back In Stock!
2004 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Deep, well-defined curranty fruit is the driving force of this nicely extracted, young Cabernet, while complementary oak and deft touches of cocoa lend a boost in overall richness. If fairly full-bodied, the wine shows nary a hint of heaviness and sports a fine sense of balance from beginning to end. It is supple to start and finishes with appropriate tannins, but its astringency never gets in the way of its ongoing fruit, and time is a guaranteed remedy to its wholly acceptable toughness." 1999 Kalin Cellars "Cuvée DD" Sonoma County Pinot Noir (Previously $45.00)

There are few wines on our shelves, particularly domestic wines, that are as unique as the ones from Kalin Cellars. The 1999 Cuvee DD is their CURRENT release, aged to perfection for you by the self-proclaimed Dr. Fermento. All of the fruit for this wine comes from the Demostene Ranch in the Alexander Valley, the oldest Pinot Noir planting in the region, and a dry-farmed vineyard at that. The wine is intense, with amazing precision. Its bright red cassis and Ranier cherry fruit are complemented by notes of violets, forest floor, Chinese Five Spice and mu... Read More »

2010 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Back In Stock!
2010 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is immediate, juicy and expressive in this vintage. At the same time, it seems pretty clear that the 2010 needs at least a few more years in bottle. Today, it is a bit disjointed as it is neither primary, nor showing too many tertiary notes or complexity. Sweet tobacco, leather, licorice, menthol and spices emerge over time, but the 2010 is a wine built for the cellar. There is plenty of density, but it needs time to emerge." 2011 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (375ml)

92 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2011 Opus One may turn out to be one of the surprises of the year. A brilliant, precise wine, the 2011 impresses for its energy. Sweet floral and spiced notes lead to expressive dark red berries, mocha, anise and new leather in a brilliant Opus One. Readers will note the lower than normal presence of Cabernet Sauvignon in the 2011, which is typical for a year in which blenders play an important role. The blend is 71% Cabernet, 11% Merlot, 9% Petit Verdot/8% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec. Opus One seems to really be hitting all the right notes these da ...Read More »

2009 Littorai "Cerise" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Pinot Noir Cerise shows the earthier side of Pinot. Autumn leaves, crushed flowers, raspberries, licorice, game and smoke meld together in this singular, highly expressive Pinot. Firm yet well-integrated tannins frame the long finish. The Cerise needs at least another 2-3 years in bottle for some of the firmness to soften, but it will likely always be a touch wild and rustic. The Cerise was vinified with 25% whole clusters. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021. (AG)" (2/2012)92 points Wine Spectator: "Trim, focused aromas of blackberry, wild berry and raspberry follow through t ...Read More »

A warm, resonant bouquet laced with espresso, plums and spices meld into expressive dark berries as this mid-weight, polished Cabernet opens up in the glass. Hints of raspberry jam, rose petals and mocha are layered into the persistent finish. Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is rarely inexpensive, but this is about as good as it gets for the money. 2005 Walter Hansel "North Slope" Chardonnay

93 points from Robert Parker: "The last releases of Chardonnays from the brilliant 2005 vintage for this varietal include the 2005 Chardonnay The North Slope Vineyard. Burgundian notes of hazelnut, brioche, white currants, and hints of peach and crushed rocks are impressive and intense. This is a full-bodied Chardonnay with crisp acidity that should age nicely for 5-6 years. It was aged in French cooperage (mostly Francois Freres and about 49% new oak). Saturated and opaque in color, it tastes fat and flashy, with masses of cherry and blackberry jam, anise, chocolate and Provençal herb flavors. Yet this opulently soft wine has a classic structure, backed up with firm tannins. This is a profound Merlot." (3/2007)94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Merlot Paradise Hills Estate offers a big, sweet kiss of cassis, kirsch, spice and spring flowers. While woodsy and cedary, this offers appealing flavors that are a bit easier to approach. Drink now through 2022." (6/2014) K&L Notes: From the winery: "Filled with brambly blackberry, dark plum, black cherry and cassis character. Spicy, moderately sweet flavors tend more toward dark, underbrushy earth and menthol than primary fruits. Finishes with firm, dusty tannins and an essentially pliant texture." (6/2008) K&L Notes: Littorai farms their estate vineyards biodynamically. It brings together the silkiness of the 2007 with the power and darkness of the 2008, a combination that is hugely appealing, to say the least. With a little air, the 2009 can be enjoyed young, but it is best cellared for at least a few years, which will allow some of the baby fat to drop off. 1978 Beaulieu Vineyard "Georges de Latour Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

In this tasting (February, 1995), the wine performed up to its highest standards, displaying fully mature aromas of roasted herbs, red and blackcurrants and cherries intertwined with caramel and spice notes. The 2004’s 15.5% alcohol is well-concealed by the wine’s wealth of fruit and glycerin. This full-bodied beauty is black as a moonless night. It is medium-bodied, with a dry, spare finish." (8/2002) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium ruby, less deep than the '97. Moderately ripe aromas of berries, dark chocolate and fresh herbs. Ripe and supple, but smaller-scaled and less nuanced than the '97. Still, this has good middle-palate texture and balance for the vintage. Finishes with dusty tannins and good but not outstanding length." (6/2001) Wine Spectator: "Ripe and well ...Read More »

2009 Heitz Cellar Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

At the risk of being accused of hyperbole, this 2009 vintage is without question the best Heitz Napa bottling I have ever tasted. In assessing a wine we are taught to break a wine down and examine it critically—its structure, its texture, its flavors and aromas. With this wine, though, that seems a kind of sacrilege, an act of vinous vandalism that does no justice to its perfect balance, its seamlessness. This is a wine that is truly greater than the sum of its parts, and can only be appreciated comprehensively. For what it’s worth, however, I did admire... Read More »

2001 Cliff Lede Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon

According to Stephen Tanzer: "($50) Aromas of redcurrant, herbs and mint, plus a whiff of rose petal. Rather elegantly styled cabernet, with notes of redcurrant, mocha, tobacco and herbs. Sweet but in a restrained way. Finishes with smooth tannins and notes of herbs and earth." (Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May/Jun 04)
