2005 Terredora di Paolo "Pago dei Fusi" Taurasi (Elsewhere $60) Top Pick!
2005 Terredora di Paolo "Pago dei Fusi" Taurasi (Elsewhere $60)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Taurasi Pago dei Fusi is a huge, explosive wine. It possesses superb delineation of aromas and flavors to match its dark, brooding personality. Sweet balsamic notes develop in the glass, adding further complexity as the wine gradually builds towards a powerful close. The 2005 doesn't appear to quite have the finesse of the 2004, but it comes very close. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. (AG)" (6/2011)90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Pago dei Fusi is an extremely mineral-driven wine that oozes with aromas of asphalt, wet river stone and crushed brimstone. There’s are touches of ca ...Read More »

2010 La Monacesca "Mirum" Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva

95 points James Suckling: "Incredible richness of dried papaya and mango with lemon undertones. Peach stone too. Fabulous character of dried fruits and citrus as well as sea salt and oyster shell. Amazing finish. Drink now." (11/2014)90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Green-tinged gold. Musky, lees-accented aromas of yellow apple, melon and cinnamon, with a suggestion of buttered toast. Supple and expansive, offering fresh lime and richer baked apple and guava flavors. Finishes with very good energy and focus, along with a note of vanillin oak. This is an impressively rich white wine, but terroir lovers may find ...Read More »

2009 Vie di Romans "Piere" Sauvignon Blanc 375ml (Previously $23)

93 points James Suckling: "The nose on this is phenomenal, with intense sliced peaches. Full body and loads of fruit with a long flavorful finish. Drink now." (12/2011)93 points Wine & Spirits: "This grows on a terrace above the north bank of the Isonzo river, where the soils are well-drained gravel and clay. The temperate 2009 vintage created a robust young sauvignon, structured as a grand and age-worthy wine. The texture is supple, carrying pungent fruit scents of pear and nectarine; the finish meshes that fruit with an earthier note. Delicious with veal schnitzel now or after several years in the cellar. ...Read More »

2004 Rotaliana Teroldego "Clesurae" (Previously $26)

Wine Spectator: "Full, soft and fruity, with lots of wild raspberry and blackberry aromas and flavors and a soft texture." (6/2007) K&L Notes: The Teroldego wine is an indigenous varietal of Trentino which finds its ideal environment in the Piana Rotaliana. Teroldego seems to derive from "Tiroler Gold," the name that indicated this wine at the Court of Vienna under the Austro-Hungarian empire. From this name came the Tiroldico and finally Teroldego. Among the Trentino wines it is certainly the most famous and rightfully called the royal wine of Trentino.

2009 Vie di Romans "Ciampagnis Vieris" Chardonnay 375ml (Previously $16)

91 points James Suckling: "A rich and fruit Chardonnay with apple pie and milk aromas and flavors. Full and fruity, with lots going on. Always excellent." (12/2011)90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good, medium yellow color with gold highlights. Bright, pure aromas of tropical fruit, lime and white pepper. Dense, supple and fresh, offering bright orchard fruit, butter and pineapple flavors that gain depth and spiciness with air. In an exuberant, in-your-face, fruit-filled New World style, but avoids coming across as an over-the-top caricature. Serious unoaked chardonnay with impressive purity." 1997 Allegrini "Palazzo della Torre" Veneto (Previously $40)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An outstanding effort is the 1997 Palazzo della Torre. This dark ruby/purple-colored wine is full-bodied, dense, with Rhone-like beef blood and garrigue (that blend of earth and dried Provencal herbs) scents intertwined with copious quantities of black cherry and currant fruit. Rich, chewy, and impressive, it was aged in large 2,000 and 8,000 liter Slavonian wood foudres." (8/2000)

1996 Villa Pillo Vin Santo (375ml)

Villa Pillo is situated in the heart of the Chianti region, equidistant from the famed cities of Pisa, Florence and Siena. The winery was purchased by John and Kathe Dyson in 1989, who restored the estate, refurbished the winery and replanted many of the vineyards. Their Vin Santo, however, is made from Trebbiano (80%) and Mavasia (20%) planted in 1968. The best fruit from the harvest is left to dry for five months. The grapes are pressed and the must is left for 24 hours to rest. The wine is then transferred to traditional small casks called "caratelli,... Read More »

2005 Pian dell'Orino Brunello di Montalcino

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, moderately saturated red. Complex nose combines red cherry, plum, underbrush and tea leaf. Then sweet, rich and creamy, with an exotic quality to the very ripe red cherry and plum flavors. Sound, harmonious acidity keeps the wine fresh. The youthful tannins build on the back end but are very polished, giving this wine a seamless quality." (7/2010)92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino flows from the glass with impressive depth and persistence in its richly-textured dark fruit. The wine possesses dazzling inner perfume that emerges over time to add furthe ...Read More »

2003 Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Allegrini’s 2003 Amarone Classico (80% Corvina, 15% Rondinella, 5% Oseleta) reveals a super-opulent, engaging texture packed with sweet cocoa, dark fruit, cassis, blackberries, roasted coffee beans and licorice. It finishes with notable length and surprising finish for the vintage. According to Allegrini the rain that fell in July was critical in maintaining some balance in the wine. This medium to full-bodied wine is an outstanding example of a more restrained, clean style of Amarone." (10/2007)90 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe and raisiny on the nose, with floral and mineral notes. ...Read More »

2004 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona "Vigna di Pianrosso" Brunello di Montalcino (1.5l)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The estate’s 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso possesses striking depth as endless layers of sweet, perfumed fruit emerge with tons of grace. This, too, is an intense, full-bodied wine. The balance here is utterly exceptional, and the wine’s sheer plumpness makes for a highly rewarding glass of Brunello. Succulent dark cherries, spices, underbrush, minerals and new leather come to life as the wine sits in the glass, yet this remains a backward, structured Brunello in need of serious bottle age. The Pianrosso is a terrific effort from proprietor Paolo ...Read More »

1985 Antinori Secentenario (1.5L)

Jancis Robinson: "Special magnum bottling to celebrate Antinori’s 600th anniversary. Pale ruby with some evolution. Still has some attractive spine as well as definite farmyard character. Sweet start but still lots of acidity and melded tannins. Long, elegant. Light bodied. Great food wine." (3/2005) K&L Notes: This is an INCREDIBLY rare bottling--created at Antinori to commemorate its 600th anniversary in winemaking. A blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from the Tignanello vineyard, it has never been produced again. Actually a multi-vintage wine, this combines... Read More »

2005 Rocca di Montegrossi Vin Santo (375ml)

For all its mouthcoating intensity on the attack, this finishes clean and lingers with treacle, nut and spice notes. Drink now through 2020. 125 cases made." (10/2013)94 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2005 Vin Santo is fabulous. 2000 Il Marroneto Brunello di Montalcino

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark red-ruby. Aromas of black cherry, ripe red berries, licorice, dried flowers and spices are a bit aromatically compressed owing to the vintage's hot weather. Sweet and rather soft on entry (again due to 2000's warm weather), then nicely stuffed with surprisingly energetic red fruit in the middle. The broad finish features repeating, lingering flavors of ripe red cherry and licorice. A very successful 2000 Brunello. (ID'A)" (9/2013) Wine Spectator: "Aromas of strawberry and cream, with hints of mahogany. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a ripe fruit character. Slig ...Read More »

1997 Castello di Monsanto "Il Poggio" Chianti Classico Riserva

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dark ruby/purple-hued 1997 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggio offers a stunning aromatic display of jammy black fruits, balsam wood, dried herbs, licorice, and a Provencal/garrigue smell. Some peppery notes even came through. Full-bodied, concentrated, and fat, with high glycerin levels, a chewy, plush, succulent personality, sweet tannin, gobs of fruit, and a long, heady finish, this 1997 is already disarmingly delicious, but should age nicely for 12-15 years. 2004 Feudi di San Gregorio "Serpico" Campania

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Serpico is an excellent choice for readers who want to enjoy an Aglianico with quite a bit of tertiary character. Wild cherries, game, earthiness, tobacco and licorice flow from this burly, somewhat rustic Serpico. The French oak has added a measure of richness, but is now nicely integrated. Menthol, dried flowers and leather add the final layers of complexity on the building finish. This is a firm, hearty Serpico that needs to be opened at least several hours in advance. 2004 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is awesome. This finessed, regal Brunello flows onto the palate with seamless layers of perfumed fruit framed by silky, finessed tannins. The wine remains extremely primary at this stage, and its full range of aromas and flavors have yet to emerge, but the sheer pedigree of this Brunello is unmistakable. 1998 Luigi Pira Barolo Margheria

It is full-bodied, with outstanding concentration, offering notes of chocolate, black cherry liqueur, spice box, and earth. There is plenty of glycerin, moderate tannin, and a long, 40-second finish in this tightly-knit effort. It will drink well for 10-16 years." A real beauty that grows and grows on the palate. Great Nebbiolo. Greatest Costa Russi ever, from 34-year-old vines. Best after 2010. 890 cases made." (7/2004)95 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2000 Costa Russi comes across as rich, dense and powerful, with impressive depth in its dark fruit. 1997 Fontodi "Flaccianello della Pieve" Toscana (1.5L) (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Antonio Galloni: "The 1997 Flaccianello della Pieve wraps around the palate with endless layers of dark fruit. In 1997 the grapes were very small because the intense heat of the year dehydrated the fruit. Dark red berries, pomegranate, spices, smoke, licorice, anise and rose petals burst from the glass with notable energy, power and grace. Even with all of its intensity, the 1997 is beautifully balanced from start to finish. This racy, full-bodied Flaccianello can be enjoyed today or cellared for up to a decade." 2002 Schiopetto Tocai Friulano

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2002 Tocai, lightly tropical in its fruit and with notes of almonds and minerals, is a wine of much character and balance. Mario Schiopetto is no longer with us, but the problems of health which plagued his last years had the effect of bringing his children into an active role in the firm at a young age. The wines, in any case, had already begun to change - Schiopetto was the man who brought cold fermentation techniques to Italy, and the wines he made had a purity of varietal expressiveness that greatly influenced his peers. 2003 Clerico "Ciabot Mentin Ginestra" Barolo

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra is even better than the Pajana, with a superbly well-delineated bouquet and deeply nuanced layers of violets, spices, menthol and sweet dark fruit. It fully captures the essence of Ginestra, one of Barolo's greatest sites, in the rich, ripe style of the vintage. This gorgeous Barolo is only in need of further bottle age after which it should drink beautifully to age 20, perhaps beyond. It is one of the highlights of the vintage. 1999 Col d'Orcia Brunello di Montalcino

Worn-in leather, spices, licorice and tobacco meld into sweet dark cherries and plums in this full-bodied, intense Brunello. There is still more than enough fruit and sheer power to allow the 1999 to drink well for another 15-20 years, perhaps longer. The style is very much on the masculine, virile side of things. If opened today the 1999 needs time to come together in the glass. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2029. (93+)" (5/2012) Wine Spectator: "Fresh and clean, with dried cherry, mi ...Read More »

(5/1999)95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1995 Ornellaia (magnum) is remarkably fresher than the same wine from bottle.
