2013 Belle Glos "Las Alturas" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir (1.5L)

93 points Wine Spectator: "Spares no expense, with lavish smoke and black licorice-scented oak framing a rich core of dark berry, anise, boysenberry and savory herb notes. Full-blown and expressive through a persistent, mouthcoating finish." (10/2014) K&L Notes: Winery notes: "Located in one of the highest-plantable sites in the southern portion of the Santa Lucia Highlands in Monterey County known as the "Mission District." This pristine bench offers the vineyard cool, coastal days but it enjoys warmer afternoon temperatures and tamer winds than the northern portion of the appellation. The co... Read More »

1984 Inglenook "Reserve Cask" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

90 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe and exotic, with lots of coffee, cedar and spice overtones to the gentle core of very ripe cherry and raspberry. A stylish wine with plenty of tannin to support it, but the dominant characteristics are fruit and suppleness." (7/1990) K&L Notes: This was made during the reign of Connecticut spirits company Heublein, which is not remembered by Inglenook faithfuls as the winery's better days. But as the 1990 Spectator review indicates, there were still some bright moments at the venerable estate.

This is the first vintage of Frog's Leap Rutherford Cab that comes entirely from estate-grown fruit. A blend of 92% Cab and 8% Cab Franc from the near-perfect 2012 vintage. From the winery: "This Cabernet Sauvignon has all the hallmarks of the legendary Cabernets of Rutherford: the deep, cassis-currant aromas, the classic notes of 'Rutherford Dust,' and the earthen flavors of cedar and black olive. The mouthfeel is plush across the palate with velvety tannins, yet balanced by bright acidity and firm structure that hints at promising years to come. Pair i... Read More »

2012 Kistler "Trenton Roadhouse" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay (1.5L)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Chardonnay Trenton Roadhouse returns to the tropical fruit side of Chardonnay, with pineapple, mango, mandarin orange and honeysuckle notes. Long, rich, full-bodied, crisp and zesty, this is a juicy, succulent, opulent and full-bodied Chardonnay to drink over the next 5-7 years." (1/2015)93 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2012 Chardonnay Trenton Roadhouse is one of the richer, creamier wines in the range. Almonds, white flowers and mint blossom in the glass, but it is the bouquet that stands out the most for its high-toned notes and overall sense of lift." (1/2015) K&L Notes: Green-tinged ... 2012 Duckhorn Napa Valley Merlot (1.5L)

This Merlot-dominated blend reminds us why Duckhorn earned its reputation as one of California's preminent sources for Merlot. The 2012 vintage, with its long hang time, was perfect for making a rich, seamless, structured wine. Winemaker notes: "From its aromas of Santa Rosa plum, creme de cassis, violet and Herbes de Provence to its enticing flavors of olallieberry, sticky toffee and vanilla bean, this is a complex and compelling expression of Napa Valley Merlot."

2011 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L)

94 points Antonio Galloni: "Savory herbs, menthol, smoke and licorice are some of the aromas that open up in the glass in the 2011 Dominus. This is a relatively immediate, expressive Dominus with plenty of near-term appeal. The style is open and succulent for the year, with lovely balance and poise. Crushed rose petals and dried herbs linger in the close. With time in the glass, the 2011 fleshes out nicely. In 2011 Dominus is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc... Dark red cherries, plums, smoke, savory herbs and wild flowers race across the palate in a bright, aromatically lifted Cabernet Sauvignon endowed with gorgeous precision and nuance. Distinctly ferrous and savory notes add nuance to the radiant, generous 2012 fruit. Dollops of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec round out the blend. 2012 DuMol Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (1.5L)

91 points Antonio Galloni: "A gorgeous entry-level wine, DuMOL's 2012 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley) is laced with sweet red berries, rose petals, mint and cinnamon. The flavors are bright, focused and lifted throughout. The 2012 doesn't quite have the exuberance of most Russian River Pinots, and will therefore appeal to readers who appreciate a more restrained style of Russian River Pinot. 1998 Viader Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L)

The 1998 Viader is a blend of 63% Cabernet Sauvignon and 37% Cabernet Franc. Viader believes that in 1998 the Cabernet Franc did very well, showing excellent aromatics and bright black cherry fruit. A rough vintage overall in California, mountain grown fruit tended to fare better in 1998 than valley floor fruit. The wine was aged in French Oak Barrels for 18-21 months. Only 3800 cases were produced. 95 points by the Wine Spectator: "Extraordinarily rich, deep, complex and concentrated, yet remarkably elegant and graceful."

Playing it closer to the vest than its siblings, with coaxing, it reveals some extraordinarily ripe, rich blueberry and blackberry fruit intermixed with hints of charcoal, scorched earth and wet rocks. The high rating reflects its richness, purity, and potential rather than its current state of drinkability." This is a surprisingly accessible vintage for the Cabernet Sauvignon. Today it looks like an excellent choice for readers who want to explore the wines of this iconic producer--as long as it doesn't close down in bottle. Togni's 2009 is notable for its exceptional elegance, finesse and pedigree. There is plenty of Spring Mountain structure, but today the 2009 is disarmingly sexy and radiant for such a young wine. Still, there is fruit at its heart, and, for those willing to wait, the wine may well reward their patience."
