2013 Leitz "Dragonstone" Riesling (Previously $18)

Extraordinarily aromatic, vigorous wines from a vintner who grows more commanding each vintage. This is the wine that once was called Rüdesheimer Drachenstein, and it’s the wine David Schildknecht said was the best Riesling value in the world, which is because Johannes sells it to us for much less than it’s worth. For a large-production wine this receives the same care in the vineyards and cellar that every Leitz wine receives.

2014 Josef Leitz Pinot Noir Rosé

From Johannes Leitz, the creative winemaker behind Dragonstone Riesling and EINS-ZWEI-DRY. From the winery's note: "This hearty, vigorous rosé with a Pinot Noir base has a range of bouquet that recalls strawberries, violets, raspberries and rhubarb. There is also a hint of lovage and sandalwood. A melting, gentle residual sweetness accompanies every sip. Serve well cooled! It goes well with wild onions in olive oil, air-dried ham, salami, parmesan and naturally a barbecue."

2013 Leitz "Eins Zwei Dry" Rheingau Riesling Trocken (Dry)

A wonderfully dry, but not mouth-searing style of Riesling for those who love the delicate attributes of the noble Riesling varietal but aren't keen on any residual sugar. Makes for a nice aperitif or to wash down grilled sausages and even matches deliciously with smoked fish.

2013 Leitz Rüdesheimer Riesling Trocken

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Straw yellow in color, the freshly opened 2013 Rüdesheimer Riesling trocken shows a hint of burnt milk along with nutty flavors, ripe apples and Williams pears and a nice mineral undertone with lemon peel flavors. The wine opens gentle and quite creamy and develops a certain power and persistent mineral piquancy as well as a nice grip in the good finish. This is already a terroir-driven wine from Leitz's Rüdesheim vineyards and deserves the right handling. (SR)" (1/2015) Jancis Robinson: "Cask sample. A generous expression of ripe and yellow fruit is supported by plenty of ...Read More »

2013 Leitz Rüdesheimer Magdalenenkreuz Riesling Spätlese

The Magdalenenkreuz Vineyard is located on the hillside banks of the town of Rüdesheim. The vineyard starts at an elevation of 100 meters and rises to 165 meters in a relatively short distance. It lies directly below the Rüdesheimer Kirchenpfad and Klosterberg. The vineyard has many different soil types, but it can primarily be described as having the sandy loam which give Rheingau Rieslings their power and majesty.

1993 Schloss Schönborn Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg Riesling Auslese (Previously $55)

If the label images of old men in powdered wigs seem a bit unusual, it's for good reason. History and winemaking tradition have a different meaning in the Rheingau than the rest of the world. Over 28 generations, the Graf von Schönborn family has operated the wine estate dating back to the year 1349. The estate owns and cultivates 50 hectates of vineyard in the Rheingau, one of only five wine regions in the world to be classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Riesling is almost exclusively planted, and 80 percent of the acreage is classified as first-... Read More »

Latitude 50 N Sekt Trocken Rosé

This is an extraordinarily unique blend of Portugeiser, Dornfelder and Pinot Noir. It has a bright, fragrant nose, super creamy mousse with pretty strawberry fruit flavors accented by hint of lemon zest and a dry, refreshing finish. It is great on its own, but has the body to complement a variety of foods, making it an excellent and versatile choice for entertaining. Try it with grilled pork sausages!

2013 Eva Fricke Keidricher Riesling Trocken

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: ""We had healthy grapes until the end of the harvest in the Wassero vineyard, where 60% of the grapes come from," says Eva Fricke introducing her 2013 Kiedrich Riesling trocken whose rest is from the Sandgrub. The Wasseros is the cooler upper part of the famous Gräfenberg towards the forest and dominates the character of this medium-bodied, very mineral and pure if not ascetic wine which literally does not contain a single botrytis berry according to Eva. They all went into the Rheingau Riesling. Discreet on the nose the Kiedricher village Riesling is qui ...Read More »

2013 Spreitzer Oestricher Doosberg Riesling Kabinett Trocken

Jancis Robinson: "Not your common-or-garden Kabinett, the Doosberg does not mind pairing the cool flavour of citrus fruit with a dash of quinine and a generous salty lick. Uncompromisingly dry and with a serious mineral contribution. (MS)" (4/2014) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bright citrus colored, the 2013 Doosberg Kabinett trocken fermented in a 2400 liter Doppelstück and opens with a very subtle and fresh aroma of cool, bright fruit and discreet earthy notes. Light-bodied, this fresh and stimulating, salty Kabinett finishes with a lovely grip. (SR)" (1/2015)

2005 Johannishof Rüdesheimer Berg Rotland Riesling Spätlese

Jancis Robinson: "Straw colour. Just a whiff of kerosene, indicating age, but not unpleasant. On the palate there is a nice touch of fruit, the petrol-like tangent kept well in check by just the right amount of acidity. Delicate style. Some complexity, probably at its best now. (MS)" (3/2011)

2013 Leitz Rüdesheimer Berg Kaisersteinfels "Terrassen" Riesling

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Leitz's 2013 Rudesheimer Berg Kaisersteinfels Riesling Terrassen from a small terrace vineyard above the Berg Schlossberg is classified as "VDP Grosse Lage" but not allowed – and never meant – to be presented as Grosses Gewächs because it is – analytically – not dry although it tastes dry much as it has every year since 2004. Picked from 70+-year-old vines on stony red slate and quartzite soils the must fermented to 12.5% of alcohol and 11.9 grams of residual sugar and presents itself as a full, juicy, medium-bodied and fruit intense Riesling with a live ...Read More »

2007 Spreitzer Winkeler Jesuitengarten Riesling Spätlese

According to importer Terry Theise: "A strong contender for wine of the vintage, and you shouldn’t dare to miss this sublime example of Rheingau Riesling at its best and most archetypal. Drier-seeming than the Kabinett, dense yet transparent, typically stoic and solid and durable, with 'purple' flavors. This is why Rheingau had the reputation it squandered, for this is magnificent Riesling, commanding and complex and endlessly unfolding everything of rock and flower and salt and sweet."

2002 Peter Jakob Kühn Osterich Lenchen Riesling Beerenauslese (375ml)

Peter Jakob Kuhn is a trailblazing winemaker in the Rheingau, primarily making wines from the historic Osterich Lenchen vineyard. With a reasonably long decant, this dessert-level Riesling is just entering its prime drinking window. The 2002 vintage was particularly strong in the Rheingau, but did not recieve the international attention due to its regional strength and the fact that it came on the heels of the much more hyped 2001s. From Wine Advocate: "Peter Jakob Kuhn continues his high-wire act of risk-taking, organic viticulture, intuitive cellar pra... Read More »
