2004 Dom Pérignon Brut Champagne Top Pick!
2004 Dom Pérignon Brut Champagne

96 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2004 Dom Pérignon continues to develop beautifully. A vibrant, focused Champagne, the 2004 clearly reflects the personality of the year. Freshly cut flowers, white peaches and pears are woven together in a Champagne that impresses for its focus and energy. Chiseled saline note support the crystalline finish. I imagine the 2004 will always remain relatively bright and linear, but at the same time, each time I have tasted it over the last two years the 2004 seems to have a little more body and broader shoulders. The 2004 will appeal most to readers who ...Read More »

2008 Launois Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne Top Pick!
2008 Launois Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne

We began importing the Champagnes of Launois more than a decade ago, though we haven't been able to promote them properly because our allocations were very tight. Fortunately for us, Bernard Launois has decided to export more! Champagne Launois' wines are highly sought-after, so much so, in fact, that we've sold their Champagne to Champenois who can't get it at home! Bernard Launois does things differently than the rest of his neighbors, picking a week to 10 days later and using only massal-selected plants rather than the more common clones. All of the C... 2006 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne Top Pick!
2006 Louis Roederer "Cristal" Brut Champagne

97 points James Suckling: "Deep pinot-driven presence is the first and lasting impression. Power with control. Superfine bead, bread and spiced biscuits, candied ripe red fruits and a sense of tight-knit complexity. Some grapefruit, lemon pith & gently flinty notes too - impressive nose. In the mouth it is rich, powerful, mouth-filling and flavoursome with a core of the same biscuity red fruit flavour, savoury nutty notes and a wrap of assertive, persistent acidity that holds rich powerful flavour deep and focused whilst maintaining a polished, gently creamy texture. 2008 Ariston Aspasie Brut Champagne

This Champagne is made from vineyards 25-30 years old and is a blend of 1/3 each Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier. This wine has a great banana nut bread nose followed by a seamless texture and finished with the spectacular acidity of this near-perfect Champagne harvest. Try this now and then lay some of this down for the future… I still have some 1996 left, and they are showing great, as was the 1983 I had last year with the Aristons! 2002 Piper-Heidsieck "Cuvée Rare" Brut Champagne

The silky texture carries layer upon layer of toasted brioche, currant and pear pâte de fruit flavors, with notes of grated ginger and coconut, cappuccino foam and spun honey. Mineral accents of smoke, ground spice and fleur de sel build on the long, echoing finish. Drink now through 2032." 2000 Krug Brut Champagne

97 points Wine & Spirits: "When first released two years ago, this wine showed some of the exoticism of the 2000 vintage, the broad flavors ranging from lobster broth to lemon zest and star anise. As it has matured, the wine’s richness is at once more baroque and more seamlessly woven into a deep golden beauty. Rather than fresh, it feels brisk and lithe. The wine’s fragrance is layered in deep complexities and elevated to sunny high notes. A glorious vintage of Krug." Very layered and juicy. This was a very hot year for Champagne and a year for pinot noir. But this is so fresh and complex. 60% pinot noir and 40% chardonnay. 10% of the pinot is fermented in barrel. 2009 Marguet Père et Fils "Amboniacus" Brut Rosé Champagne

Benoit Marguet is one of the leaders of the organic revolution in Champagne, and all of his estate vineyards are in conversion to biodynamic farming. He has returned to plowing the vineyards with a horse rather than with a tractor, as the horse hooves aerate the soil while a tractor compacts the soil. In the cellar, he is returning to wood as a fermentation vessel rather than stainless.

2009 Louis Roederer Brut Rosé Champagne

94 points Wine & Spirits: "This delicate style of saignée Champagne is a Roederer specialty; the firm completed a new cellar in 2008 with a sole focus on rosé. What sets Roederer rosé apart is the beautiful freshness of a wine like this 2009. Its color is a light orange gold rather than pink or red. Its scent hints at pink grapefruit, the flavors ripe and tangy, deepening to red fruit. As a young wine, its austere structure is ideal for oysters. Still quite primary, the VV is going to need at least another year or two in bottle for the aromatics to fully develop, especially for readers who appreciate tertiary nuances. Today the 2004 VV is all about fruit and structure, both of which it has in spades. Dosage was 8 grams per liter." 2006 Louis Roederer Brut Nature Champagne

Jancis Robinson: "Very firm and rather unyielding initially on the nose. Textured on the palate and pretty austere initially. This is not a champagne to drink thoughtlessly as an aperitif or at a reception. This is a serious statement that demands food. The mousse is notably gentle and the whole is impressively persistent. Very dry indeed though not aggressively tart by any means. Then it seems much more substantial after a mouthful of smoked salmon on blini. And after some jamon iberico it was a revelation."
