1982 Suduiraut, Sauternes

4 stars Michael Broadbent (Nov 1992): "Roasted grapes picked exceptionally early, 16 September. Alcohol 14%. First tasted in 1988: sweet, hefty; minty, spicy; good length and acidity. More recently: waxy yellow; rich bouquet; very sweet, full-bodied. Showing well." This wine is actually better than the heralded 1983 vintage because Suduiraut makes better wines when they pick early in the season.

1988 d'Yquem, Sauternes

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1988 d’Yquem has an incredibly profound nose of orange marmalade, dried apricots, honeycomb, musk and dried pineapple with hints of marzipan and crystallized ginger. The palate is seamless with a great line of crisp acid cutting through the densely packed dried tropical fruit and honeyed flavour layers. The finish just goes on and on. (LPB)." (9/2012)96 points Wine Spectator: "Lots of of beeswax, botrytis spice and honey, with hints of toffee. Full-bodied, very sweet, thick and layered. Caramel, toffee, spice. Molasses too. Very, very powerful. Muscular and rich. Fabulous Saute ...Read More »

1995 Rieussec, Sauternes

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It is safe to say that Château Rieussac has both feet firmly cemented within the highest echelon of the Sauternes hierarchy, tucked neatly just behind Château d'Yquem. A brief glance at my notes illustrates how this wine delivers year after year, a consistency that has sealed its reputation as one of the most reliable, trustworthy sweet Sauternes in consumers' eyes. (Neal Martin, Producer Profile)" K&L Notes: For several generations, Château Rieussec has been a leading name in Sauternes wines. As early as 1868, Charles Cocks remarked that "Beyond any of the others, R... Read More »

1970 Rieussec, Sauternes (low neck) (Previously $160)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A little heavier to taste and a bit less elegant than the 1971, the 1970 is a corpulent, rich, sweet mouthful of viscous, chewy Sauternes. The moderately amber/gold color is a sign of approaching maturity, but this wine has the acidity and overall balance to drink nicely for at least another decade. (1998)" K&L Notes: *** From Michael Broadbent: "Surprisingly pale, sweet, spearmint nose, medium sweetness and body, nice rich flavour, good acidity." Neil Martin: "A medium-bodied palate, good acidity, a little ephemeral and very floral. Quite sharp but good delineation.... Read More »

1989 La Tour Blanche, Sauternes (375ml) (Previously $80.00)

92 points Wine Spectator: "Intense and exotic; ripe and rich botrytis flavors explode on the palate to a long finish. Very sweet and full in body, it packs in the spice, white pepper, cream, coffee, quince and dried apricot notes. –" (4/1995)91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A mature, amber hue. A delicate nose of orange peel, honey, marmalade and almonds. The palate is well balanced with good acidity, notes of tangy marmalade, apple, orange zest and a sprinkling of coconut. This has a nice roundness to it, the oak well-integrated and good cohesion towards the finish. Very fine indeed and drinking perfectly nose. T ...Read More »

1967 d'Yquem, Sauternes

100 points Wine Spectator: "From one of the 20th century's celebrated vintages for Yquem, this bottle stands up to all the hype--unforgettable for its purity, elegance, harmony, its "total" everything. Powerful, yet it seems weightless on the palate, almost defying gravity as it tangos around with its vanilla, peach and apricot flavors. Seamless, nearly endless finish. Easy to understand its reputation as the greatest Yquem of the last 35 years.--Yquem vertical. Drink now through 2018." (5/1999)96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Based solely on the strength of what is unquestionably a great Yquem, many have concluded ...Read More »

1983 Suduiraut, Sauternes (375ml)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This looks to be a good Suduiraut. A medium golden color, with a very honeyed, rich, floral bouquet... Sweet, with fine honeyed flavors, this is an elegant, graceful Suduiraut with plenty of character. However, given the vintage, I had expected even more. (RP)" (1/1998) Wine Spectator: "Delicious and balanced, showing exciting earthy, white truffle flavors that add complexity to the honey and spice notes. Medium intensity. Drink now or hold until 2000" (4/1995)

1959 Suduiraut, Sauternes

93 points Wine Spectator: "No tasting note given." (11/1988) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In tasting notes, I've alluded to the great 1959 Suduiraut produced. I have consistently rated this wine between 92 and 94 on the occasion I have tasted it (most recently 12/89)." K&L Notes: Five stars from critic Michael Broadben in his book Vintage Wine: "Over a dozen admiring notes: 'classic,' 'heavyweight,' fat, rich and lovely in the 1971s. Warm amber gold; fabulously rich ripe bouquet and flavour, fragrant, perfection in the 1980s. At the Dickinsons' in Miami (1997): floral, orange blossom, creamy bouquet; sweet but not as fulsom... 2001 Clos Haut-Peyraguey, Sauternes

97 points Wine Spectator: "**Highly Recommended** Smells like pure caramel with just a hint of dried apricot. Full-bodied, ultrasweet and fabulously concentrated. This goes on for minutes. Coats your palate but shows fab acidity. Big, juicy young sticky. Best after 2010." (9/2004)92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A big time sleeper of the vintage, Clos Haut Peyraguey’s 2001 exhibits abundant amounts of Grand Marnier-like orange flavors intermixed with creme brulee, melted caramels, and hints of pineapples and apricots. Full-bodied, sweet, long, and well-defined, it should drink well for 15+ years." (6/2004)91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale ora ...Read More »
