95 points Bob Campbell: "Tight, pure, mineral-laced Sauvignon Blanc with citrus flavours infused with a faintly floral/wild flower character. The net effect is energy and precision. A backbone of steely acidity drives a lingering finish." (1/2015) 92-93 points Raymond Chan: "Bright pale straw colour with slight green hues, light edged. The nose is tightly bound and elegantly presented with fresh, pure, white stonefruit, citrus and herb aromas that unfold white floral and minerally nuances. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate features refined white stonefruit and floral flavours along with fresh herbs ...Read More »
A bright clean appearance with fresh lime green hues. The bouquet shows pleasing aromas of grapefruit and white peach, with a floral lift. On the palate this medium-bodied, dry wine has a refreshing and moreish character. Mouthwatering acidity is balanced by an elegant, mineral finish. Sourced from a vareity of vineyards throughout Marlborough's various subregions: Wairau, Waihopai, Dillion's Point and Blenheim. An exceptional value in classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc!
One of K&L's very finest buys from France. This is a reserve cuvée, made from Millet's chalkiest limestone soils. There is a long maceration at very low temperatures to extract as much flavor and character as possible. The resulting wine is intensely charged with stone fruit and minerality, with bright citrus notes. However, due to the amazingly warm vintage, it's quite soft, with layers of rich fruit.
Domaine Begude is a small, family-owned property located high in the foothills of the Pyrenees in the Limoux region of the Languedoc. The long, cool growing season lends itself perfectly to the production of crisp and delicate wines, and this Sauvignon Blanc is no exception. More in the style of a Loire Valley Sancerre, with its fine, mineral-laden nose and fresh citrus fruits on the palate, this is the perfect accompaniment to grilled fish, oysters, or just by itself. Make this one your house white! Organically certified by Ecocert & NOP.
We love these wines for their freshness, charm and affordability, and this is easily our best value Sancerre in the store. From soils of clay and chalk in the village of Bue near the Domaine. The Millet keeps you coming back for more. It is vinified entirely in stainless steel to preserve the wonderful citrus and slightly grassy aromatics and gentle mineral finish.
This Sancerre has a pale yellow color with hints of flashing green. Aromatically, it possesses a nice fruity component of crispy white peaches, melon, yellow plums and the typical presence of place notes of flinty minerals. On the palate, it has a richness and persistence which is nicely balanced with fruit texture, mineral and acidity. The excellent length gets even better as the bottle breathes. If you can get your hands on a round of Crottin de Chavignol, call it a day. Or, try this with pan roasted shellfish with just a touch of butter and a squeeze ... Read More »

94 points James Halliday: "A 58% (Sauvignon Blanc) 42% (Semillon blend) machine harvested at night; most cold - fermented in stainless steel, with 7% of the blend fermented in new and used French barriques. There is an array of citrus and tropical fruit aromas and flavours, but it is the electricity of the intense palate that is the defining feature of the wine." K&L Notes: Cape Mentelle takes a minimal approach towards this classic Margaret River blend. The aim is to preserve as much fruit intensity and regional character as possible, whilst providing a full-flavored and distinctive white win... Read More »
Francois and Jean-Marie Cherrier with father Pierre produce steely and citrus-driven Sancerre from fine parcels of Sauvignon Blanc planted in Sancerre's silex (flint) and chalky soils. Yields are kept low and harvest is done strictly by hand before fermenting in 100% stainless steel. Vibrantly aromatic and mineral-driven, this is quintessential Sancerre. (Eric Story, Loire Buyer)
94 points Raymond Chan: "Bright, very pale straw colour with slight green hues, pale on rim. The nose is slender, taut and tightly bound, and delicate in its intensity, with aromas of passionfruit, white flowers, minerals and nettles forming a very fine and intricate array on bouquet. Dry to taste, tightly bound, penetrating flavours of lifted, vibrant and juicy passionfruit, lime and white flowers are enlivened by bright, softly ripe acidity and balanced by chalky mineral textures. The palate has excellent linearity and drive, the mouthfeel possessing vitality and raciness with ...Read More »
Wine Enthusiast: "* Best Buy * A tangy grapefruit flavor and refreshing acidity make this a good before-dinner quaff and an apt pairing with seafood. Herbaceous and citrus aromas carry through to the flavors, medium body and good balance." (11/2014) K&L Notes: Husch was founded in Anderson Valley in 1971, and is now run by some of the original Silicon Valley escapees--the family of Hugo Oswald Jr. had been farming pears in Santa Clara Valley and sold their property during the 1970s tech boom! Their Sauvignon Blanc has been a favorite with Husch fans since 1980. This wine was made from... Read More »
90 points Antonio Galloni: "Very pale bright yellow. Subtle perfume of lime, gooseberry, white pepper and minerals, along with a hint of tropical fruits. Then surprisingly sweet in the mouth following the rather austere nose, showing excellent concentration and lift to the lime and kiwi flavors. Really lovely ripeness and intensity of fruit here, and consistent from start to finish." K&L Notes: A lovely, pure expression of Hawke's Bay Sauvignon Blanc. The fruit is picked from Elephant Hill's stunning vineyards right on ocean shore at Te Awanga looking out over Cape Kidnappers. The wine shows ju... Read More »
89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A sensational effort from proprietor Denis Dubourdieu, this easygoing, richly fruity, honeyed white Bordeaux exhibits lots of fig, grapefruit and melon notes, medium body, surprising depth and terrific purity as well as complexity. Drink it over the next 1-3 years. (RP)" (8/2014) 88-91 points Wine Spectator: "Tangy and mouthwatering, with kiwi core, lemon pulp, fennel and sel gris notes. Lots of cut through the finish. Piercing. (Web-2014)" K&L Notes: Located in Beguey in the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, Château Reynon was purchased by the Dubourdieu family in 1958. Denis Dubourdieu too... Read More »
Wine Enthusiast: "Flowery and electric in high-toned grapefruit and peach, this is a crisp, clean white from a consistent producer. Medium-bodied, it holds small percentages of Sémillon and Muscat. The finely hewed texture benefits from 10% of the wine having been aged in neutral oak." (9/2014) Wine Spectator: "This white offers lip-smacking acidity to accentuate the crisp lemon, Key lime pie and ruby grapefruit flavors at its core. Smooth and refreshing, accented by floral and honeysuckle details." (10/2014)
Brothers Yvon and Pascal Tabordet took over the family winery in 1981. Located in Sancerre, they soon branched out across the Loire river to Pouilly Fumé, where they now tend 12 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc vines planted on calcareous clay soils which are intermixed with flint. The wine is slowly fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with no malolactic fermentation.
95 points Bob Campbell: "Intense, pure and powerful Sauvignon Blanc that’s very much in the style of Sancerre with chalky minerality, lime/citrus and a delicate seasoning of nutty yeast lees. The wine has a great texture and impressively persistent finish." (1/2015)91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Classic gooseberry and pink grapefruit notes feature gentle herbal nuances on the nose. There’s ample weight and texture on the palate, with a burst of mouthwatering citrus on the finish." (2/2015) Wine Spectator: "This crisp white offers a distinctive mineral edge and floral details, set on a light and juicy body, with touches of pear, apple and citrus and a lingering finish." (6/2015) K&L Notes: Quivira's Sauvignon Blanc is a classically styled Sonoma white that delivers an excellent experience at a refreshingly modest price. Primarily sourced from their biodynamically farmed e... Read More »
Sourced from Dry Creek, Alexander Valley, and the Russian River Valley, Ferrari-Carano's Fumé Blanc is appealing in its richer style of Sauvignon Blanc while being only lightly oaked. The juice is partially fermented in stainless steel (65%) and partially in older French oak barrels (35%) where it is fermented with weekly lees stirring for just one month. Lots are handled separately before final blending, and the resulting wine is an excellent value. From the winery: "Ferrari-Carano’s 2013 Fumé Blanc has delicious aromas of white peach, orange blossom, p... Read More »
Wine Enthusiast: "Dry, savory and richly steeped in oak, this SB has the markings of whole-cluster pressing and 3% Sémillon blended in, along with an inviting floral hum on the nose. The taste leans toward peach and grapefruit, zesty and alive." (10/2014) K&L Notes: From the winery: "Our 2013 Sauvignon Blanc was produced from grapes grown in various microclimates of the Napa Valley. The warmer Napa Valley microclimates give us grapes that result in wines with a lush, full melon/citrus character in the aroma and in the flavor. The cooler Napa Valley fruit provides a solid, crisp backbo... Read More »
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The biggest cuvée is the 20,100 cases of their 2013 Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma, which comes from their estate vineyards in Bennett Valley. This is blended with about 5.5% Sauvignon and has almost 22% of the Musqué Clone, which gives the wine more tropical and exotic characteristics. The wine is dry, delicious, and offers up notes of honeyed figs, exotic melons, fresh acids and crisp lemon blossom with a touch or orange skin. It’s quite refreshing, medium-bodied and beautifully fruited. Drink it over the next several years. (RP)" (12/2014)
91 points Bob Campbell: "Ripe, succulent Sauvignon Blanc with ginger, guava, passion fruit, honeysuckle and with a subtle toasty/nutty character from partial barrel fermentation. The wine shows a nice combination of fruit purity with a good texture and some complexity." K&L Notes: This refreshing white wine from New Zealand's Waipara Valley has mineral notes, freshly squeezed citrus and stone fruit on the nose. The palate expands with concentrated nectarine flavors and complex characters of yeast and brioche. This is a genuinely dry wine with character and length. The fruit is picked from tw... Read More »
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice" Fans of Sancerre will love this complex, lean and lively Sauvignon. The color is a light straw-yellow and aromas recall grapefruit and lime. Flavors of bright, tangy citrus continue on the palate, with a note of white pepper. The snappy balance and lithe texture keeps everything echoing on the finish." (8/2014) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(12.1% alcohol): Light, bright gold. Lively peach, tangerine and floral scents, with a subtle floral nuance emerging with air. Juicy and smooth on entry, then firmer in the mid-palate, offering dry citrus and orchard fruit flav ...Read More »
Morgan Peterson of Bedrock Wine Company has always been a favorite of the staff here at K&L wines. When he started the Shebang! label, we thought it was a fantastic wine at a great price. The red wine has done very well for us and our customers have been happy with the quality and price over the last seven years. I recently tasted the just-released Cuvee III Sauvignon Blanc and thought we should bring this in as well. As with the red, this wine over-delivers for the price. The wine is a blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc mostly from 30 year old dry farmed vin... Read More »

According to the winery: "Our Santa Ynez Valley Sauvignon Blanc, a perennial favorite, is sourced from our own estate vineyard in Los Olivos, as well as a number of other carefully farmed vineyards within the Santa Ynez Valley AVA. 2014 marks the 38th consecutive vintage for this remarkable value, and this bottle is the result of Fred Brander’s extensive experience and winemaking prowess. 95 points James Halliday: "*Special Value Selection* Light straw-green; a complex blend with considerable presence and attitude from the first whiff to the conclusion of the long, multi-flavoured and multi-textured palate; a small left field component was wild-fermented in stainless steel barrels. It is the overall intensity of the wine that really grabs attention, engineered by the way the flavours build across the palate."
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Best Buy* This wine is honeyed and mellow, but wonderfully crisp and clean at the same time. Fermented and aged without oak, it stars lemon, lime, apricot, green apple and white pepper flavors. Made from fruit sourced from the Jardine Vineyard." (11/2013) Connoisseurs Guide: "*One Star* There is plenty to like in the fruity, not-too-complex aromas of this well-ripened wine, and its juicy, melon-like flavors follow suit. It runs more to melons and pears with a subtle suggestion of oaky richness, and it is comfortably balanced with enough acidity to be lively without being unga ...Read More »

Margerum Wine Company has long been a favorite of K&L. Doug Margerum, owner and director of winemaking, started out on the retail side of things. He and his family opened Wine Cask in Santa Barbara in 1981 and spent more than a decade building a fantastic wine shop and bistro. During much of that time, Doug was also building an amazing wine company. Margerum Wines are fantastically balanced and go beautifully with food. They are pure and clean, showing off the beautiful fruit from around Santa Barbara County. We were lucky enough to get the opportunity t... Read More »
89 points Wine Spectator: "A minerally, sea salt thread runs through the center of this wine, with grapefruit-scented citrus and stone fruit flavors, centered around vivid acidity. Drink now. 2,900 cases made." (10/2014) Connoisseurs Guide: "It would be hard to imagine that Sauvignon Blanc could be any fresher and more buoyant than this one, but, such virtues aside, the wine is very simple and more candied than keenly fruity at this point, and its whispered hints of green herbs and grass are not hard to miss." (4/2014) Wine Enthusiast: "It’s bone dry and tart, with green mint, gooseberry and grapefruit flavors." (7/2014) K&L Notes: A q... Read More »
From the winery: "Nick and Vanessa met Bob Hopkins a few years ago at an Integrated Pest Management class. As organic farmers you attend these classes to know how to attract beneficial pests that will combat nasty insects in the vineyard. That way you can avoid pesticides. Nick took a shine to Bob and mentioned that his brother wanted to make crisp, minerally, zippy Sauvignon Blanc, but, of course, we cannot grow Sauvignon Blanc at our very cold estate vineyard. Bob was kind enough to offer us Sauvignon Blanc from his blocks of 40 year old vines. And the... Read More »
Cliff Lede sources their Sauvignon Blanc primarily from an old vine plot in eastern Rutherford. The grapes were harvested and sorted by hand, and a portion was allowed some limited skin contact after crush in order to fully realize the potential of this quality fruit. The wine was fermented in a combination of stainless steel (50%), French oak (44%, mostly neutral), and concrete eggs (6%). The wine was then aged on the lees with weekly stirring, but malolactic fermentation was surpressed. From the winery: "With the cut and color of yellow sapphire, the 2... Read More »
91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "From a producer that up to now has been known for its limited production Cabernet Sauvignons, this new effort contributes another name to the list of noteworthy makers of Sauvignon Blanc. This bright and brisk bottling boasts a bounty of grassy, melon-like fruit with a drift into the weedy end of the spectrum as its nose develops with air, and, if its earliest palatal impressions are on the simple, slightly candied side, it does not take long for the wine's inviting depth to emerge and carry the wine into a long finish." Frog's Leap Sauvignon Blanc is 100% stainless steel fermented from dry-farmed, organically grown vineyards in Rutherford. With a philosophy of minimal intervention in the vineyard and the winery, this Sauvignon Blanc has become a reliably true expression of the varietal with its low alcohol and food-friendly profile. The fine 2014 vintage realizes a wine with the brightness and nerve that one would expect, but with a special depth and concentration on the palate that are special to the vintage and demand some extra attention.
One of the best priced NZ Sauv Blancs we have in the store. Made by Seresin Estate, one of Marlborough's leading organic and biodynamic producers. Snappy grapefruit, citrus zest and preserved lemon and a touch of richer more tropical fruit from the excellent 2013 vintage. Nice weight on the palate keeps the racy acid in check and fleshes out the wine. Great seafood wine at a price you can afford to drink any night of the week. A real staple for me to keep around the house. (Ryan Woodhouse - K&L New Zealand Wine Buyer)
From the winery's estate Margarita Vineyard, which is situated at the gateway between the cool marine-influenced south and the warm inland area of Paso Robles. Two harvests spaced two weeks apart layered this Sauv Blanc with a foundation of acidity, and riper fruits on the top. The winery's note: "The 2013 Sauvignon Blanc offers refreshing aromas of pear, gooseberry and citrus with a suggestion of jasmine and mineral. A full palate unfolds with rounded flavors of peach, grapefruit and guava. Notes of lime zest add lift to a clean, quenching finish."
Grapes for St. Supery's 2013 Sauvigon Blanc were harvested from their Dollarhide Estate Vineyard in the cool morning hours and immediately pressed at the winery. A slow fermentation took place at controlled temperatures to preserve fresh aromatics and the resulting wine is an intense example of the fine 2013 vintage. From the winemaker: "This Sauvignon Blanc presents with brilliant shades of pale yellow laced with youthful notes of green.
