Aptly named and always a favorite in the rich California style, Butternut is a luxuriously textured Chardonnay. Olema is produced by the folks at Amici Cellars. Fruit was sourced from select vineyards around Sonoma County and blended with a splash of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.The wine was aged for more than a year in 30% new French oak before bottling.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A percentage of the 2012 Chardonnay Estate comes from the same clone planted on the famous Alexander Mountain estate of Jess Jackson's (the Upper Barn clone of Chardonnay). The wine is aged for eight months, half in oak and half in stainless steel. Honig sources estate fruit from their sustainably farmed Rutherford vineyard as well as from some select Napa growers. The 2012 growing season was long and ideal with grapes reaching optimal ripeness before the autumn rains. The wine was aged for 18 months in 35% new American oak barrels before being blended with 7% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc. From the winery: "Plenty of ripe, wild berry and plum aromas and flavors, framed by vanilla, spice,and toasty oak. Lush mid-palate tannins flow into a lengthy finish accented by bright fruit."
Just released! This is the "Special Selection" bottling, following on the heels of the regular 2012 Caymus Napa Valley bottling which (while celebrating the winery's 40th anniversary) was the most popular wine we've sold in 2015. From fruit grown on several sites in Anderson Valley, Tous Ensemble is an immediately appealing Pinot Noir with a crunchy and vigorous red-fruited profile. It is great introduction to the style of winemaker Wells Guthrie, who delivers cool climate terroir which isn't sullied by high alcohol or too much wood. A perfect and long growing season in 2012 saw a two week harvest extending well into October but at only a 13.6% finished alcohol level in the finished wine, which was aged for nine months in neutral French oak.
