Louis Bouillot Cremant de Bourgogne "Perle d'Aurore" Brut Rosé

Wine & Spirits: "Gentle strawberry fruit fills this soft rosé, its zesty finish keeping it clean. A fine aperitif." (4/2014) Wine Enthusiast: "Full, ripe wine, layered with fruits and a dry, more mineral core. The wine has good depth of flavor, strawberries, red currants and a citrus cut that keeps the wine fresh at the end." (11/2013) K&L Notes: This delightful sparkling rosé wine comes from Burgundy. It is made of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Gamay Noir. The charming eye of the swan color comes from the addition of Pinot Noir to the wine when the lees are disgorged, following the traditional fermentation in... Read More »

2012 Château de la Charrière Bourgogne Rouge Domaine Yves Girardin Top Pick!
2012 Château de la Charrière Bourgogne Rouge Domaine Yves Girardin

From estate vineyards just south of Chielly-lès-Maranges. The 2012 Bourgogne has a very pretty nose with notes of red cherries and raspberries. On the palate it shows quite a bit more weight and structure. This is, despite its modest price, concentrated serious wine that still manages to remain charming and most attractive in character. 2012 Thibault Liger-Belair 'Les Charmes' Bourgogne Blanc Top Pick!
2012 Thibault Liger-Belair 'Les Charmes' Bourgogne Blanc

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Bourgogne Blanc is an outstanding value at $23.00 a bottle, and the good news is that there are 500 cases imported into the United States. A completely naked example of Chardonnay, almost all of it from the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais area, this wine is aged totally in tank and goes through malolactic, but displays delicious honeysuckle, apple blossom, delicate pineapple and white peach notes as well as excellent texture, gorgeous purity, and no oak whatsoever. Drink this beauty over the next several years. (RP)" (12/2014)

2013 Meurgey-Croses Mâcon-Uchizy Top Pick!
2013 Meurgey-Croses Mâcon-Uchizy

Pierre Meurgey, formerly the Managing Director at Maison Champy, with whom we have been working for 20 years, is now working on his own. His mother's family hails from the Mâcon, so he has particularly good connectoins with some terrific growers in this part of Burgundy. The name comes from his name, and that of his mother's family, in the time-honored Burgundian tradtion. This Chardonnay is fermented and aged only in tank to emphasize the freshness and minerality of this wine, sourced from the village of Uchizy in the northern part of Mâcon. (Keith... Read More »

Balanced for the richness of a lobster roll." (10/2011) K&L Notes: From Chardonnay grown in the Maconnais region of southern Burgundy, this lovely sparkling wine is fresh and floral with apple and pear notes, lots of tiny bubbles and a crisp finish. 2011 Jacques Bavard Monthelie Rouge

This exciting Pinot Noir comes from the picturesque village of Monthelie, located next to the more famous village of Volnay. It is from a tiny negociant in Puligny-Montrachet named Jacques Bavard. He comes from a long line of wine-growers, and is dedicated to working with organic and biodynamic growers. This comes from 30-year-old vines, and underwent a long cold soak to extract more aromatic elements. It is bigger and richer than the Auxey-Duresses on the palate, with lovely cherry fruit and quite a bit of structure to match it. It's aromatically charmi... Read More »

2012 Domaine Faiveley Mercurey "Clos Rond" Top Pick!
2012 Domaine Faiveley Mercurey "Clos Rond"

The Mercurey Clos Rond comes from a single vineyard in Mercurey. The name means "the walled vineyard in that brambly area," derived from the local word "Ronde" instead of the more usual French "Ronce," meaning brambles. In a land where ownership is usually splintered, this vineyard is a rare case where the entire vineyard is under one owner, Domaine Faiveley. It lies on a gentle slope, with rich red-brown soil, a fairly high clay content and buried limestone beneath. The result is a Pinot Noir displaying rich, round fruit, both red and black, and just a ... Read More »

Here too there is good volume to the medium-bodied flavors that have a suave and very round mouth feel, all wrapped in a mildly rustic finish that delivers fine depth and length for what this is. Worth considering for value." (4/2014) Jancis Robinson: "A touch of farmyard here, plus some bright, tasty herbal notes. Leathery and dark to finish. This humble domaine was founded in 1956 by André Bonhomme. Back then, Andre's father Joseph owned four hectares of vines that were sold under the Mâcon-Viré appellation. Best from 2017 through 2030 - B.S." (5/2015) K&L Notes: Etienne Delarche, son of Philippe who passed away in 2008, now runs this family owned estate of 9 hectares in the villages of Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. 2012 Joseph Faiveley Bouzeron Aligoté

Leased from the proprietor of the Domaine de la Romanee Conti. Recorded in Burgundy in the 1700s, Aligoté was once widely planted, but almost died out in the early 20th century after the 19th century phylloxera epidemic wiped out most of the vineyards. It is undergoing a renaissance in the 21st century, however; Aubert DeVillaine, proprietor of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti believes so fervently in this grape that he fought for—and won—an all-Aligoté appellation in Bouzeron. Aligoté is a high-acid grape, so ripeness is important for balance. My friends... Read More »

One of the highlights in this range, the 2012 boasts stunning power, depth and harmony. The lifted aromatics recall the Ursules, but here the fruit possesses more volume and creaminess. This a new acquisition of one of the family's historic vineyards in Santenay from his brother Vincent who left the wine business to farm cereal grains west of Paris. It shows a very pretty thread of minerality running through it, which comes from the relatively shallow topsoil of this site, located above the more well-known Santenay Gravières. 2012 Domaine Ragot Givry Vieilles Vignes

One of the most difficult combinations to find in young, inexpensive red Burgundy is that ever-longing, haunting essence of forest floor and baking spices, along with just the right amount of ripe raspberry fruit. Burgundy is cold, which means that often times the fruit just doesn't ripen the way it does in other pinot noir-growing parts of the world. Tart cranberry or tannic blackberry will often await your lips upon first sip; a sign that the wine needs a few years in the cellar to soften up before drinking. But what are we to drink while we wait?! Thi... Read More »

2013 Domaine Desertaux-Ferrand Bourgogne Rouge

Located in the heart of the vineyards of Burgundy, on the border of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, this estate was established in 1899 by Amable Désertaux. The area was then about three hectares. It was not until the arrival of Bernard and Janine Désertaux that it grew to 12 ha. There is both good detail and energy to the solidly voluminous flavors that possess an attractive mouth feel and solid length though only average depth." (6/2014) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Bourgogne Chardonnay illuminates the potential deficiencies of the Aligote, for it is much fresher and vibrant on the nose. The palate has a light, apple entry with slightly shrill acidity at the moment. It is very citric in the mouth with bitter lemon on the terse finish" (12/2013) K&L Notes: The Saint Aubin les Charmois is a bit of a lesser-known gem.
