2012 Thibault Liger-Belair 'Les Charmes' Bourgogne Blanc Top Pick!
2012 Thibault Liger-Belair 'Les Charmes' Bourgogne Blanc

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Bourgogne Blanc is an outstanding value at $23.00 a bottle, and the good news is that there are 500 cases imported into the United States. A completely naked example of Chardonnay, almost all of it from the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais area, this wine is aged totally in tank and goes through malolactic, but displays delicious honeysuckle, apple blossom, delicate pineapple and white peach notes as well as excellent texture, gorgeous purity, and no oak whatsoever. Drink this beauty over the next several years. (RP)" (12/2014)

2013 Meurgey-Croses Mâcon-Uchizy Top Pick!
2013 Meurgey-Croses Mâcon-Uchizy

Pierre Meurgey, formerly the Managing Director at Maison Champy, with whom we have been working for 20 years, is now working on his own. His mother's family hails from the Mâcon, so he has particularly good connectoins with some terrific growers in this part of Burgundy. The name comes from his name, and that of his mother's family, in the time-honored Burgundian tradtion. This Chardonnay is fermented and aged only in tank to emphasize the freshness and minerality of this wine, sourced from the village of Uchizy in the northern part of Mâcon. (Keith... Read More »

Wine & Spirits: "Lively and fresh, this flavorful sparkling wine is packed with ripe lemon and quince fruit. Its mousse is a bit foamy, its aroma a bit grassy. Balanced for the richness of a lobster roll." (10/2011) K&L Notes: From Chardonnay grown in the Maconnais region of southern Burgundy, this lovely sparkling wine is fresh and floral with apple and pear notes, lots of tiny bubbles and a crisp finish. A remarkable value!

2010 Andre Bonhomme Vire Clesse Vieille Vignes

This humble domaine was founded in 1956 by André Bonhomme. Back then, Andre's father Joseph owned four hectares of vines that were sold under the Mâcon-Viré appellation. Through careful vine growing and vinification, André received enormous respect from his colleagues. He was not only the co-founder of the Independent Winemakers of the Saône-et-Loire; he also was one of the principal initiators of the new Viré-Clessé appellation in the 1990s. 2012 Domaine Marius Delarche Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

94 points Wine Spectator: "Clean and bracing, with unadorned fruit flavors of apple and pear. Light baking spice accents peek through as this cruises to a long apple and spice tinged finish. Best from 2017 through 2030 - B.S." (5/2015) K&L Notes: Etienne Delarche, son of Philippe who passed away in 2008, now runs this family owned estate of 9 hectares in the villages of Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. This is a wine purchased by Keith Wollenberg right before he retired. We decided to pop a bottle for the Hollywood staff, and wow! This wine is deliciously rich and layered with subtle hint... 2012 Joseph Faiveley Bouzeron Aligoté

Leased from the proprietor of the Domaine de la Romanee Conti. Recorded in Burgundy in the 1700s, Aligoté was once widely planted, but almost died out in the early 20th century after the 19th century phylloxera epidemic wiped out most of the vineyards. It is undergoing a renaissance in the 21st century, however; Aubert DeVillaine, proprietor of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti believes so fervently in this grape that he fought for—and won—an all-Aligoté appellation in Bouzeron. Aligoté is a high-acid grape, so ripeness is important for balance. My friends... Read More »

2012 Château de la Charrière Santenay Blanc 1er Cru "Beauregard" Domaine Yves Girardin (Previously $33)

This a new acquisition of one of the family's historic vineyards in Santenay from his brother Vincent who left the wine business to farm cereal grains west of Paris. It shows a very pretty thread of minerality running through it, which comes from the relatively shallow topsoil of this site, located above the more well-known Santenay Gravières. This has that combination of energy, focus and a relatively open texture on the palate that makes it very easy to like. (Keith Wollenberg, K&L Burgundy Buyer, 03/2014)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A pungent nose features notes of straw, melon and yellow orchard fruit aromas. There is both good detail and energy to the solidly voluminous flavors that possess an attractive mouth feel and solid length though only average depth." (6/2014) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Bourgogne Chardonnay illuminates the potential deficiencies of the Aligote, for it is much fresher and vibrant on the nose. It comes only from vineyards in Puligny, a mixture of the family’s own vineyards and some negoce. The palate is clean and fresh with apple peel and pear, although the finish is missing a ...Read More »

2012 Olivier Leflaive St-Aubin 1er Cru "Charmois" Top Pick!
2012 Olivier Leflaive St-Aubin 1er Cru "Charmois"

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 St. Aubin 1er Cru Charmois is 100% negoce fruit and is raised in 15% new oak. It has a very light bouquet that needs more fruit expression. The palate has a light, apple entry with slightly shrill acidity at the moment. It is very citric in the mouth with bitter lemon on the terse finish" (12/2013) K&L Notes: The Saint Aubin les Charmois is a bit of a lesser-known gem. It is located on the wrong side of an invisible dotted line directly next to Chassagne-Montrachet, 1er Cru Les Chaumees. It represents Chassagne richness, but at a more reasonable tariff than ... From a site on the slopes just above the village of Savigny, en route to Bouilland. Charming and elegant, with bright minerality, attractive citrus and lemon notes, lots of complexity and a long and elegant finish, this is simply terrific and an amazing value in white Burgundy!.
