2010 Two Angels "Mayacamas Mountains" Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2010 Two Angels Cabernet Sauvignon is a perfect example of how well a wine can drink with just a few years on it. The years allow the wine to soften, flesh out and display its complexity. And this wine is showing very well. The 2010 Two Angels Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma comes from vineyards at and near the top of the Mayacamas mountain range, which lies half in Sonoma County and half in Napa Valley. A blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon and 23% Merlot, this wine has a unique flavor profile. The nose reveals notes of chocolate, vanilla, cherry and spice no... Read More »

With grapes sourced from select vineyards across Sonoma County, it is the flagship wine of the estate and delivers an excellent value. 2012 Louis M. Martini Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

Connoisseurs Guide: "Juicy, young, mildly curranty fruit is played against touches of toasted herbs, vanilla and bit of cranberry pertness first in the nose and again in the flavors of this very steady, slightly frontal, yet consistently focused working, and, while it is never as deep or ambitious as the best of its cousins, it is a tasty, nicely made Cabernet that delivers lots of varietal bang for the buck." (8/2014) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Always one of the best buys in Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma (85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petite Sirah, 4% Merlot and 4% Zinfandel) offe ...Read More »

2012 Beringer Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley is especially deep and powerful in this vintage. Smoke, game, incense, leather, pomegranate, spice and red cherries are some of the many notes that inform this striking Cabernet from Sonoma's Knights Valley, a fertile hunting ground for savory, mineral-driven wines full of character. This is a fabulous wine for the money, but with a production of 90,000 cases, winemaker Laurie Hook shows to achieve quality and value with scale, something that is much harder than it looks. This lineup from Beringer and winemaker ...Read More »

2012 Decoy Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

Connoisseurs Guide: "Cherries and herbs are the dominant themes of this clean, slightly smaller-scaled, medium-bodied offering, and ripeness is always just a bit underplayed. Its proportional tannins provide a bit of Cabernet structure without being too much of a burden to the wine's modest fruit, and a brief stay in the cellar is all that it needs." (4/2014) K&L Notes: From Napa Valley's Duckhorn Vineyards, this is a Cabernet meant for early-drinking enjoyment. Comprised of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon with 6% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, the wine was aged for 12 months in 100% French oak (35%... Read More »

2012 Peter Michael "Les Pavots" Knights Valley Bordeaux Blend Top Pick!
2012 Peter Michael "Les Pavots" Knights Valley Bordeaux Blend

96-98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012s made from Bordeaux varietals include their flagship wine, the 2012 Proprietary Red Les Pavots, a sensational blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 11% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. A prodigious effort, it rivals some of the fabulous past vintages such as 1997, 2001, 2002 and 2007. The inky/purple-colored 2012 boasts classic notes of crème de cassis, roasted coffee, vanilla bean, cedar, forest floor and blueberries. Full-bodied with fabulous depth, richness, and texture as well as a multilayered mouthfeel, sweet tannins, and loads of potential, this stunning wine is capable of lasting 15-20 years. However, it offers sweeter tannins as well as slightly more evolved and complex aromas of unsmoked, high class cigar tobacco, graphite, blackberries, cassis, spring flowers and a distinctive minerality. Although deep, full-bodied and backward, the sweet fruit and tannin provide a more upfront character than the 2009. It, too, is a 30-50-year wine. 2012 Enkidu "E" Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

As esoteric as Enkidu's classical references may be, winemaker Phil Staehle has not made it into the "cult wine" pantheon as yet. And yet: Enkidu wines are sought after by a select few for their dependably interesting, well-crafted character. From Sauvignon Blanc to Pinot Noir and Rhone Blends, to Cabernet Sauvignon, Enkidu wines have a "certain something" that's hard to define. And what could be more "cult" than that?

Its opaque purple color and sweet creme de cassis fruit intermixed with crushed rock and forest floor notes lead to a broad, rich, full-bodied mouthfeel with excruciatingly high tannins and intense power and richness. 2007 Laurel Glen Sonoma Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Glass-staining ruby. Pungent, assertively spicy scents of red- and blackcurrant, licorice, pipe tobacco and cocoa powder, plus a sexy floral quality. Broad and pliant but focused, offering sweet red and dark berry flavors, a candied cherry note and an exotic rose pastille nuance. There's a spine of minerality here that keeps the sweet fruit and floral flavors in check and adds lift and cut to the long, spicy finish. It immediately impresses with richness, smoothness of texture and complexity, offering waves of ripe summer blackberry, blueberry and smoke. The tannins are firm, dusty and soft, making the wine drinkable now and over the next six years with steak." 2009 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Sonoma/Napa Counties Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There is no question the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is the most backward and brooding of the wines I tasted from Pride. Firm tannins frame an expressive core of dark red berries, licorice, scorched earth, tobacco, smoke and incense. Today, the 2009 is far too young to offer true pleasure, but it is unquestionably striking. Hints of iron, graphite and smoke add complexity on the finish supported by huge mountain tannins. The 2009 is super distinctive and loaded with personality. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. (AG)" (12/2012)94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good ruby-red. This prodigious Cabernet Sauvignon has only gotten better since my tasting last year. 1985 Kalin Cellars Reserve Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon

John Gilman: "...One has to recognize that the high octane, "hedonistic" side of California Cabernet is made out of concious choice, rather than forced by circumstance, and is produced either because the winemaker and/or proprietor really likes this kind of over the top jam juice or thinks that they can make more money crafting these kind of wines. Of course, with alcohol levels well under thirteen percent, classic Cabernet's such as Kalin's start out life with plenty of structure and are not going to win any beauty pageants out of the blocks these days!... 1986 Kenwood "Artist Series" Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The 1986 Cabernet Sauvignon Artists Series exhibits an opaque purple/plum-like color with light pink at the rim. Its fragrant bouquet offers scents of underbrush, jammy fruit, cedar, pepper, and herbs. 2002 Mauritson Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

A incredibly dense purple color, this 2002 Sonoma County Cabernet is structured and intense. The fruit lingers in the front palate before the complexity of this wine starts to show through. Hints of dust and mint complement the incredible fruit that is still prevalent. 1984 Joseph Swan Northern Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon

While Joseph Swan Vineyards is better known these days for cool climate Pinot Noirs and classic Zinfandels made by Joe Swan's son-in-law Rod Berglund, in the early 1980s Joe himself was still at the helm of this esteemed Forestville winery. Swan was mentored by the legendary BV winemaker André Tchelistcheff (who encouraged him to plant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay), and he hated high-alcohol wines, instead making wines that were balanced and flavorful. This classic, mature bottling should reflect that respect for detail and balance.

1973 Chateau Montelena Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon

This is the first "Chateau" Cabernet Sauvignon that Montelena produced. The 1973 vintage was a sterling Cabernet vintage, from which the talented (if novice) winemaking staff produced a big, rich, mouth filling wine. In order to develop further complexities through mellowing, an extended aging period of two years in French (Never) and American Oak barrels was necessary. The resulting '73 Cabernet is a skillful balance between power and elegance. 3,000 cases of this wine were made, one wonders how many unopened bottles are still around!
