2008 Far Niente "Dolce" Napa Valley Dessert Wine (375ml)

A combination of late harvest Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc from the foggy town of Coombsville, east of Napa, Dolce is Napa's ultimate Sauternes-style dessert wine, with its earthy, botrytis underpinning and joyful acidity. Wonderfully food-friendly, this will pair well with foie gras, poached figs, cheeses, chocolate or creme brulee. Or cellar and watch the wine evolve. Praise from Wine Review Online: "A rare example of a domestically-produced Sauternes style wine. At once delicate and decadent, this beautifully balanced dessert wine will make a great f... 2008 Qupe "X Block—Bien Nacido Vineyard—The Good Nacido—30th Anniversary" Santa Maria Valley Syrah (Previously $90)

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* This bottling is the winery’s most expensive wine, and usually its best. Production of the ’08 was unusually low, resulting in amazing concentration. It’s basically a detonation of cherries, raspberries, currants, cola and mocha. New oak is present, in the form of delicate toast and wood spice, but is balanced. So silky and delicious now, you can drink it, but the tannic balance suggests the cellar. Will evolve over the next 12 years, maybe longer." 2008 Peay Vineyards "Les Titans" Estate Sonoma Coast Syrah

93 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Glass-staining purple. Spicy raspberry and candied cherry aromas are complicated by smoky minerals, dark chocolate and fresh violet. Sweet red berry flavors show very good depth and definition, with subtle anise, smoke and violet pastille qualities building with air. The clean finish offers a brisk bite of cracked pepper, a touch of darker fruit and very persistent spiciness. This very seductive syrah displays no rough edges and wonderful energy." 2008 Belle Glos "Las Alturas" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

The Las Alturas Vineyard, in the Santa Lucia Highlands, is a high elevation bench (1,200 feet) that, while very cool, gets loads of sunshine. This combination, along with the Gloria sandly loam soils, producers thicker-skinned grapes on low-yielding vines, amounting to exceptional deep and concentrated wines. The Las Alturas has more earthy notes than its other Belle Glos counterparts, with tangy black cherry and plum fruit and ample sweet spice.

2008 Chasseur "Joyce Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (Previously $60)

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep red. High-pitched red berries and flowers on the nose, with complicating notes of star anise and rhubarb. Tangy, finely etched red fruit flavors are given a firm edge by bitter cherry pit and pick up an exotic candied floral quality with air. Impressively precise and light on its feet, but at the same time very concentrated. A deeper note of blackberry arrives on the long, sappy, focused finish. This could be enjoyed now with a couple hours of aeration." (6/2010)92 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Two stars. Spicy and brisk on entry, then fleshier and deeper in the middle, offering intense red fruit flavors and a touch of spicecake. Shows a refreshingly light touch, with zero excess fat. Finishes peppery and brisk, with lingering floral notes and no obvious tannins. There's an elegant, pinot-like character to this wine that's quite intriguing." (12/2012)

It is so young that it cannot only get better with time in bottle, but we admit that its no-holds-barred richness and accessible style makes near-term resistance next to impossible." 2008 Newton "Unfiltered" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals more creme de cassis and black currant characteristics along with good acidity, sweet tannin and a Bordeaux Right Bank aromatic and flavor profile. Soft, round and less structured than the vintages of 20 years ago, it should drink nicely for 10-15 years." (12/2010) Wine Enthusiast: "A soft, fleshy wine to drink now. It has a fancy mouthfeel, with a firm hit of tannins and acidity, and lush flavors of blackberries, cherries, cola and spices." 2008 Kenneth Volk San Benito County Cabernet Pfeffer

Cabernet Pfeffer is one of the grape varieties that was brought nearly to extinction by the ravages of the Phylloxera louse in France in the late 1800s. Plantings of this variety still exist in old vine plantings in San Benito County. Pfeffer is German for "pepper" and the wines produced from this grape have distinctive spice aromas of crushed peppercorns. This wine is a great complement to grilled and barbequed foods as well as aged cheeses.

2008 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Then it goes to minerals with just a hint of bay leaf. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins with a beautiful softness and beautifulness. I love the balance and harmony to this with bright acidity. I would drink this before the 2007. Just under 1,000 cases of 12 but all sold in threes. Reminds me of Leoville Las Cases but with Napa brightness. Enjoy or hold for a long time." Juicy, vibrant and intense; less dense than the 2007 but more perfumed in the mid-palate. Very fine-grained wine, finishing long and aromatic, with firm tannic bite and a late note of bitter chocolate. 'Two thousand eight was an impossible year to make 15% wines with a 4.0 pH in Napa Valley,' said Bo Barrett, adding that 'it's more fun to be working in the classical world. Silky, alluringly sweet dark berry flavors pack a serious punch but come off as almost weightless, with tangy minerality adding spine and back-end cut. Gains weight and power with air and finishes with lingering smokiness and a hint of candied violet. This clocks in at a low 13.4% alcohol but hardly wants for power, depth or ripeness." (8/2011)90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "As this deeply drawn wine demonstrates so well, Pride Merlots are as unruly as they are rich when still in their infancy, but even with all of its blustery ripeness, its puckery young tannins and its palpable trailing heat, its enduring message is one of convincing depth and fruity confidence. 2008 Scarecrow "M. Étain" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The inaugural vintage of Scarecrow's "second label" wine, M. Étain comes from a less rigorous selection of fruit hand-picked from the J.J. Cohn Estate in Rutherford. Tannins are perfectly buffered by the wine's fruit, giving this wine strong early appeal. 2008 Morning Dew Ranch Anderson Valley Pinot Noir Back In Stock!
2008 Morning Dew Ranch Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is known as one of wine's most fickle grapes. It takes a deft hand and the right growing conditions to get it right. In the early days of California winemaking, few managed to produce Pinot Noirs of note, but then in 1981 Burt Williams started making Pinot Noir out of his Forestville garage. That winery became Williams-Selyem, and the rest is California winemaking history. Burt sold Williams-Selyem in 1997, and he used the proceeds to buy a 40-acre ranch in the Anderson Valley, planting cuttings from the Rochioli Vineyard and "smuggled" DRC cu... Read More »

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (97RP, 95JS, 95ST, 95W&S, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Monte Bello is striking. It is a decidedly muscular Monte Bello endowed with layers of dark fruit. Tobacco, mint, asphalt and crushed rocks develop in the glass, adding tons of complexity and finesse. A long, saline finish rounds things out beautifully. In 2008 the cold growing season stretched into October and the wine definitely has the feel of a cool vintage. The spring frost and the second year of drought conditions lowered yields significantly. Yields were just 1.25 tons per acre on average, but some of the older vineyards came in at less than 1 ton per acre. The balance of fruit, tannin and structure is simply extraordinary, but the wine needs time, most likely lots of it."
