2014 Tendu White Wine (1L) $19.99
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Crisp, tart, melon, tangerine and bubble gum-like aromas jump from the glass of this 2013 Chenin Blanc/Viognier (80% and 20% respectively). Aged totally in stainless steel, it no doubt has much of its malolactic fermentation blocked given its crisp acid profile." (11/2014) K&L Notes: Vintage after vintage, Pine Ridge's Chenin Blanc-Viognier blend has impressed drinkers and critics alike. And now, what started as an experiment in the early-1990s, has become one of the winery's most sought after wines. From the winery: "Brilliant and refreshing, this bottling of our re... Read More »
Toasted nuts, double cream brie, oysters and roast game bird; these are a few of our favorite things, when we're pairing rich California sparkling wine from Domaine Carneros. The Champagne house Taittinger, which knows terroir when it comes to sparkling wine, established this sparkling wine house in the Carneros appellation in 1987. The winery's notes on this brand-new vintage: "The 2010 harvest was marked by a cool late spring, which delayed bud break. The berry size was unusually small, however, slightly more clusters than typical, produced a near norm... Read More »
Maybe they should rename this wine 'Simply Yum,' since it's hardly a conundrum anymore. Once again a blend of popular and esoteric white grapes (including in no special order: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Viognier and Muscat), this a quintessential sipper offering copious amounts of ripe, silky fruit, tropical in nature, along with vanilla notes, honeysuckle and melon.
91 points Wine Spectator: "*Smart Buys* Focused and vibrant, with aromas of creamy apple, cinnamon and hazelnut leading to complex, layered flavors of lemon custard, mineral and almond. The finish lingers." (9/2013) Connoisseurs Guide: "Taking its usual place among the better basic Bruts of the year, Roederer's latest is yet again a sleek and spirited wine of great freshness and verve. It hews to the crispness and pert delicacy that we associate with fine Blanc de Blancs, but it musters a full measure of yeasty richness even while maintaining its lively step, and it is one of the few of its type that is ...Read More »
94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Turbine Proprietary White is a Rhône Ranger blend of 27% Grenache Blanc, 27% Viognier, 26% Marsanne and 20% Picpoul Blanc. This may be the first California white I have tasted with Picpoul Blanc in it, so old dogs can learn new tricks. With 13.9% alcohol, it displays lots of quince, white currant and white flower characteristics, gorgeous fruit, medium body, and no evidence of oak. With a luscious texture, as well as terrific purity, this is an example of why California is now the epicenter for great wines. A revelation, it can be consumed over ...Read More »
This very small production wine comes from an equally small, 100-plus year old vineyard planting of Chasselas Doré at Pagani Ranch in Sonoma Valley. Made by winemaker Mike Berthoud (pronounced bear-two), formerly winemaker at Arrowood and currently the winemaker at Mayo Family Wines. An homage to Berthoud's Swiss roots, this unique white is made from the same varietal as the famed Swiss wine Fendent du Valais, and can also be found in small amounts in Pouilly-Fumé (named Pouilly-sur-Loire) and the Savoie's Crépy. Low in acidity and alcohol, the wine is a... Read More »

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* All the benefits of maturity come through in this deliciously complex flagship sparkling wine of the French-owned estate. It shows very minute, slow-rising bubbles and a beautiful bouquet of ginger, cinnamon, cherry and fresh croissants. The flavors are layered, intricate, subtle but somehow rich. A lush and seemingly soft texture is supported by fresh acidity that encourages a long and delicate finish. Mature, but not old, it should be great through 2020 or longer." (12/2014)93 points Wine Spectator: "This shows a sense of grace and balance that belies its compl ...Read More »
From the Winery; "This is your porch slammer but don't be scared to take it seriously. It's like a strawberry cream soda, kiwi, guava, watermelon and rose petals. Finishes like sour patch kids and bubbly. 70% Grenache, 20% Cinsault, 10% Black Muscat
From Wine Enthusiast on the last vintage: "(#10 on their top 100 of 2014) Pinkish-gold in color, this lovely cuvée is a blend of 74% Pinot Noir and 26% Chardonnay, the winery’s take on a Blanc de Noirs. Fruity in peach, raspberry and blood orange, it is multi-faceted and complex, dry and elegant with a long finish that leans herbal, the acidity dialed perfectly right, gentle on the palate and memorable." (12/2014)
91 points Wine Spectator: "Focused and vibrant, with aromas of creamy apple, cinnamon and hazelnut leading to complex, layered flavors of lemon custard, mineral and almond. The finish lingers." (9/2013)90 points Wine & Spirits: "Roederer Estate’s Brut is reliably open and delicious, this year’s cuvée bursting with concentrated apple flavor. It’s clean and dry with a long, delicate finish enhanced by the barrel-aged reserve wines that winemaker Arnaud Weyrich blends in. Its bold flavors and vinous texture would be great with cracked crab." (12/2014) Connoisseurs Guide: "*One Star* Taking its usual place among the better basic Bruts ...Read More »
Abrente is a joint project between Michael Havens and Bedrock Wine Company's Morgan Twain-Peterson. Inspired by the wines of the Iberian Peninsula, it's fresh and crisp and unbelievably delicious. The grapes come from the Stewart Ranch in Carneros. The 2013 vintage has not yet been professionally reviewed, but the 2012 bottling garnered 90 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar.

90 points Wine Spectator: "A lovely rosé, with a delicate pink hue and fragrant aromas of watermelon and wild flowers, offering supple but crisp flavors of strawberry, orange zest and mineral. Mourvèdre, Grenache and Cinsault. Drink now. 380 cases made.T.F." (5/2015) K&L Notes: Made from Grenache and Mourvédre grown in Spur Ranch’s limestone rich clays and Grenache and Cinsault from the granitic bluffs above the Arroyo Seco River. Picked below 22 brix, with bright natural acidity. Fermented in several lots with some native and some cultured yeasts. The Arroyo Seco appellation is comprised main... Read More »

92 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2012 Esprit de Tablas Blanc is sublet, floral and lifted. Flowers, mint, lemon and spices meld together in a gracious, impeccably refined Roussanne-based white Rhône loaded with class and style. The 2012 Esprit is 75% Roussanne, 20% Grenache Blanc and 5% Picpoul Blanc." (7/2014)92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Green-hued yellow. High-pitched aromas of tangerine, green apple and white flowers, with a gingery nuance adding complexity. Sappy, spicy and penetrating, offering intense citrus and orchard fruit flavors that put on weight with air. Firm and dry on a finish showing excellen ...Read More »
90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "**Good Value** It may be that its fairly high percentage of Pinot Noir affords this impressive non-vintage Brut with a sense of substance and depth not usually found at the price, or it may be the wine's ample autolyzed richness does the same. Either way, the wine is long on character, all of which is quite good. It has a fine, creamy feel, and an insistent stream of small bubbles with lengthy flavors to match, and it is made all the more attractive yet by its reasonably modest price." (11/2014)90 points Wine Spectator: "A festive sparkler, featuring bright aromas of raspberry and ...Read More »
Wine Enthusiast: "This is a highly aromatic wine, pungent with guava jelly and ripe tropical scents, and not subtle in the least. The blend of 39% Viognier, 29% Grenache Blanc, 20% Marsanne and 12% Roussanne provides a palate dominated by fragrant tuberose flowers, which translate to strong white flower flavors throughout." (2/2015)
Few European grapes have such a tidy analog in California as does Albariño: from the damp, breezy Atlantic coast of northwestern Spain to coastal California, and the salt-laden winds and fog of the Pacific Ocean. Thus far, it's an obscure varietal in California, for sure. But there are a surprising number of Albariños on the West Coast; add the Cambiata to your next tasting lineup or enjoy with shellfish.

Aromas of lemon zest, kumquat, lemongrass, and ruby red grapefruit. Although it displays some restraint at first, it soon opens up to notes of honeydew melon, white rose and fresh herbs. The palate is light on its feet, with lean, zippy acid holding together a core of flavors that span honey mandarin, lemon curd, and green apple. The finish stays tight and clean, with a kiss of agave nectar and wet stone. Aiming to preserve the intense fruit and aromatics of these varieties, this blend was fermented and aged in 100% stainless steel. Hand-picked in the ea... Read More »
94 points Wine Enthusiast: "An elegant mixture of 74% Pinot Noir and 26% Chardonnay, this classic Brut is aged four years en triage and was last disgorged on July 18, 2014. The dosage includes the winery’s Thomas Road Pinot Noir. Golden in color, it is inviting in complex layers of baked apple, pear, honey and graham cracker while offering a light, sophisticated feel on the palate." (12/2014) K&L Notes: Just released. The winery's note: "The most traditional of the Iron Horse Sparklings. A 'classic' 74% Pinot Noir and 26% Chardonnay, aged an average of four years on the yeast in the bottle. Won... Read More »
90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Grenache Blanc Alice is another outstanding white from winemaker Anthony Yount. Showing plenty of stone fruits, apple and distinct minerality, it has medium-bodied richness, good overall texture and a classy, dry and refreshing finish. Enjoy this beauty over the coming year or two." (8/2014) Antonio Galloni: "The 2013 Grenache Blanc Alice is laced with hints of almond, dried pear, sage, light honey and chamomile. This mid-weight, textured Grenache Blanc is emphaises softness and texture over minerality. The 2013 should continue to drink well for another year or two ...Read More »

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Light and floral, this subtle dessert wine is made from Scheurebe grapes, more often found in Austria than California. It provides this wine with fresh apricot and honey on the palate, lingering yet low enough in alcohol and power to be enjoyed as either apéritif or digestif, its sweetness greatly restrained." (3/2015) K&L Notes: This is 100% estate-grown Scheurebe from Phelps' Spring Valley Home Ranch Vineyard in St. Helena. From the winery: "The 2013 Eisrébe has aromatic layers of honey, apricot, marmalade and tropical fruits. The texture is viscous with flavors of... Read More »
Antonio Galloni: "The 2012 Muscat Alexandria Jackass Hill is a bit of an oddity, as it emerges from Muscat vines that are planted throughout Jackass Hill, suggesting the white grapes might have once been part of a field blend. This exotic, moderately sweet dessert wine offers lovely freshness in its floral and tropical infused flavors." (1/2015) K&L Notes: From the steepest non-terraced vineyard in Sonoma County, the vineyard is named for the kind of person it takes to farm grapes on it. The Muscat of Alexandria vines are over 100 years old and actually interspersed amongst similarly... Read More »

After three decades, Edmunds St. John has a devoted following that seek out Steve Edmunds wines where "the earth speaks." This limited production white is based in Vermentino from the Fenaughty Vineyard in California's El Dorado Hills.
From the Winery; Another first release for Lumen, this lush white wine from Camp 4 Vineyard in Los Olivos is a real beauty. Made from 100% Grenache Blanc, red Grenache's light-skinned cousin. Barrel fermented in two-thirds stainless steel and one-third neutral oak barrels. Aromas reminiscent of fresh-spun cotton candy and sweet jasmine, with flavors of lemon curd and honey on the palate. Wet stone mineral notes linger through the finish. 260 cases produced.
90 points Wine & Spirits: "**Best Buy** Once ubiquitous in California, Colombard is native to Gascony, where Yannick Rousseau grew up. He makes this from 40-year-old vines in the Russian River Valley. It’s relatively neutral but also brisk and mouthwatering, with the refreshing chlorophyll tones of cucumber skin. It’s a versatile palate cleanser, suited to light fish." (10/2014)

89-91 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2014 Trousseau Gris Fannucchi-Wood Road Vineyard is bright and focused, but it is also a bit less ample through the mid-palate than the 2013. Typical savory herb and floral notes add nuance. It will be interesting to see if the 2014 puts on a little more weight in aging, or if it remains on the compact side. (AG)" (1/2015) K&L Notes: Antonio Galloni: "Jolie-Laide is one of the most exciting new projects I have come across in some time. Proprietor Scott Schultz cut his teeth as a sommelier at Bouchon, in Yountville. That led to a cellar job at Realm and then to Pa... Read More »

From Bedrock; "Michael Havens and I both think this is one of the strongest Albarinos to date. In a reverse from the last couple of years the fruit from Stewart Ranch, planted on clay, was the stronger of the two lots showing beautifully precise aromatics hinting at the tropical, nice density and crackling acidity. The Watson Ranch lot contributes nice structure and a distinct steely citrus character. This will be a major part of my own summer wine consumption!" Morgan Twain Peterson
The Roussanne fruit was harvested very mature, however at lower sugar levels than expected. The wine was cold fermented in stainless steel tanks to fully express its true varietal characteristics of honey dew melon, stone fruit and crushed white flowers. Apricot and mineral notes highlight the palate leading to a rich, creamy body reminiscent of a nutmeg spiced lemon meringue. A well balanced finish features approachable acidity highlighted by flavors of Pommello fruit and wild clover honey.
2006 Sine Qua Non "The Hoodoo Man" White Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2006 Sine Qua Non "The Hoodoo Man" White Blend (95RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I opted to just list my scores for the older releases as I find Bob's initial write-ups spot on. (JD) [This exceptional effort is a model example of what can be done with white varietals in California’s Central Coast. An exceptional bouquet of lemon blossom, nectarine, orange marmalade-infused honey, quince, and citrus are stunningly aromatic and provide profound richness, yet the freshness, precision, and overall lift are remarkable for a wine of this power and intensity. It offers a prodigious glass of dry white wine that should drink handsomely for a decade. In short, I call it 'How do he do it man.' (RP, 6/2008)]" (08/2013)
