2012 Chante Cigale Châteauneuf-du-Pape Top Pick!
2012 Chante Cigale Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Jancis Robinson: "Dark and ripe with some savoury character. A cool finish and both very round and mineral. Interesting wine!" Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The straight Châteauneuf du Pape (65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault) comes mostly from rolled-pebble terroir, yet also has a fair chunk from sandy soils as well. A beautiful traditional cuvee, it gives up notions of sweet black cherries, leafy herbs, olive and underbrush to go with a medium-bodied, elegant and textured mouthfeel. Leaning more toward the pretty, finesse-driven end of the spectrum, it drinks beautifully today, but ...Read More »

2010 Xavier Vins "Cuvée Anonyme" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Previously $55.00)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The powerful, rich 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Anonyme reveals an off-the-chart level of extract, lots of glycerin (nearly 16% natural alcohol) and copious black cherry, blueberry, forest floor, lavender and graphite characteristics. This full-throttle red requires 3-4 years of cellaring and should keep for two decades. Xavier Vignon, along with Philippe Cambie, are probably the two most highly renowned oenologists in Chateauneuf du Pape as well as some of the surrounding Cotes du Rhone regions. 2007 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It is unquestionably one of the great Chateauneufs of my lifetime...Wow, what potential complexity, mind-boggling richness, and compelling flavor profile are apparent. It is a sublime expression of the art of winemaking as evidenced by its dense purple color and big, sweet kiss of kirsch, framboise, blackberries, licorice, roasted herbs, and smoked meat. It hits the palate with a fascinating combination of substance, power, full-bodied authority yet extraordinary freshness, elegance, and precision. 2010 Domaine des Senechaux Châteauneuf-du-Pape

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Made from an identical blend, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape is a hedonistic Chateauneuf du Pape fruit bomb. Super-rich with layers of glycerin and fruit, this full-bodied classic smells like a Provencal open-air fruit and vegetable market. Loaded with slightly blacker fruits than its 2011 counterpart, there are also hints of charcuterie, spice box, cedar and Christmas fruitcake in this full-throttle, rich, concentrated wine. Drink it over the next 12-15+ years. This nearly 65-acre estate is owned by the famous and much loved Bordeaux proprietor, Jean-Mi ...Read More »

2013 Chante Cigale Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc is a fine white that’s made from equal parts Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc and Clairette. Aged 30% in barrel and 70% in tank, it has classic apple, citrus blossom and edgy minerality in its fresh, focused, downright racy style. I love the purity here. It should flesh out well with another year in bottle and drink nicely for 2-3 years. (JD)" (10/2014) Wine Spectator: "This white features a lively edge, with blanched almond and jicama notes framing a core of heather, white peach, yellow apple and melon rind flavors. 2012 Chante Cigale Châteauneuf-du-Pape "Vieilles Vignes"

93-95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Brilliant ruby-red. Sexy, expressive aromas of raspberry preserves, cherry compote and potpourri, with a smoky overtone. Lush and pliant, offering juicy red fruit and lavender pastille flavors that become spicier with air. Silky tannins add grip and shape to the long, spice-accented finish, which shows superb clarity and thrust. (JR)" (1/2014)93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A step up over the traditional cuvee, the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is made from 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre, all destemmed, that was aged 60% in demi-muid and 40% in tank. 2009 E. Guigal Châteauneuf-du-Pape

92 points Antonio Galloni: "Deep red. Potent cherry, redcurrant and floral scents are given a musky, earthy touch by a hint of rhubarb. Sappy, sweet and broad on entry, then tighter in the mid-palate, offering bitter cherry and raspberry preserve flavors and a touch of licorice. The clinging finish is shaped by silky, even tannins and given bite by a hint of cracked pepper." (4/2015) 90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape appears to be a beautiful wine, although perhaps not at the level of the 2007 or 2010 (which will not be released for another two years). 2011 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the stars of the vintage and coming from absurdly low yields of 18 hectoliters per hectare, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape is a full-bodied, seamless effort that exhibits copious kirsch, ground pepper, dried flowers and underbrush as well as incredibly fine tannin, great mid-palate concentration and ample length on the finish. Relatively forward by this estate’s standards, it will be approachable at an earlier age than normal. Nevertheless, it will have 20+ years of evolution and is an awesome effort in the vintage. Beautifully fruited and textured, with plenty of dark berry fruit, crushed flowers, violets and sweet spice, this full-bodied, sexy 2012 has a rich, layered feel, low acidity and sweet tannin. 2007 Domaine de la Jaufrette Châteauneuf-du-Pape

According to the importer, Paris Wine Company: "The wines of Domaine de la Jaufrette are resolutely old-fashioned, as the domaine has refused to change the winemaking style since the André and Paulette Chastan moved to Orange in the 1950s. The couple both came from winemaking families in the Southern Rhone (André from Vaqueyras, Paulette from Gigondas), but they wanted to create their own doamine, so as a young married couple, they purchased land just on the edge of Chateauneuf-du-Pape and planted 5 hectares of Cotes-du-Rhone. Starting off, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape (roughly 75% Grenache with the balance Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Muscardin and Vaccarese) is a fleshy, forward effort that offers up classic aromas and flavors of kirsch, ground herbs, white pepper and licorice, as well as full-bodied richness and depth on the palate. It represents an awesome naked/virginal expression of Grenache from three vineyard parcels planted in sand, clay, and limestone soils. After tasting this wine on five separate occasions, I can state with certainty, it has the most saturated color of any Mon Aieul produced to date. Moreover, its perfume of blueberry liqueur, black raspberries, licorice, roasted meat juices, and lavender is incredible. 2001 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of the 2001 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beaucastel has been on a terrific qualitative roll over the last four vintages, and the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape (which Francois Perrin feels is similar to the 1990, although I don’t see that as of yet) is a 15,000-case blend of 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, and the balance split among the other permitted varietals of the appellation. This inky/ruby/purple-colored cuvee offers a classic Beaucastel bouquet of new saddle leather, cigar smoke, roasted herbs, black truffles, underbrush, and blackberry as well as cherry fruit. It is a superb, earthy expression of this Mourvedre-dominated cuvee. Full-bodied and powerful, it will undoubtedly close down over the next several years, not to re-emerge for 7-8 years. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2025. (RP)"

2007 Domaine de Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The outstanding 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape (a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 7% Syrah, and 3% Cinsault that achieved 16.5% natural alcohol) exhibits a dark ruby/purple color in addition to a sumptuous bouquet of black fruits, scorched earth, lavender, truffles, and licorice. The wine reveals the vintage’s gorgeous freshness and vibrancy as well as sensational concentration, and a tremendous finish. It can be drunk young or cellared for 15+ years." (10/2009)93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Sexy, expressive scents of black raspberry, star anise, lavender and smoky minerals. Lively red ...Read More »

2012 Olivier Hillaire "Les Petits Pieds d'Armand" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

95-98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even better, and possibly the wine of the vintage, the 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Petits d’Armand is about as fabulous an expression of old vine Grenache as you’re likely to find. Massive and decadent, yet lively and fresh, it offers up a sweet bouquet of berry fruits, licorice, incense, flowers, garrigue to go with full-bodied richness and depth, thrilling purity, good freshness and blockbuster length. Gorgeous all around, it should drink well on release, yet last for 15+ years. Don’t miss it! Drink 2014-2027. A lineup of wines that just blew me away ...Read More »

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2004 Pierre Usseglio "Mon Aieul" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (94RP, 94WS, 93ST). Wine Spectator: "Packed with pure, ripe fruit--raspberry, boysenberry and fig--along with cocoa, tar and violet notes. Long, rich, dark finish shows lots of exotic spice, date and dried fruit notes. Tight on the finish, so cellar for a while. Best from 2007 through 2024. " (11/2006)

2004 Pierre Usseglio "Mon Aieul" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Richer, more perfumed and complex, the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de Mon Aieul (100% Grenache aged all in concrete tank) offers up gorgeous notes of kirsch, sweet garrigue, flowers and red licorice in its full-bodied, supple and textured profile. Showing the vintage freshness and elegance, it nevertheless dishes out loads of fruit and texture, with fine tannin and a great finish. Count me a fan, and I’d drink bottles over the coming 4-5 years, yet it should evolve gracefully for a decade." 2003 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark red. Sweet, exotic aromas of blackberry, cassis, molasses, bitter chocolate and dried flowers. Richly textured and dense, offering ripe dark berry flavors and nuances of floral pastilles and dark chocolate. A fat, unctuous wine that also boasts excellent purity of fruit and length, with soft, rounded tannins." (2/2006)93 points Wine Spectator: "Hard as nails now, this is packed with ultraripe plum and blackberry fruit all supported by brawny, muscular tannins that romp through a licorice- and tar-filled finish. May be ferocious for some, but those who sock it away in the cella ...Read More »

2012 Domaine de la Mordorée "Reine des Bois" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the blockbusters in the vintage, the inky-colored 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape La Reine des Bois – 80% Grenache, completely destemmed and aged 12 months in 80% stainless steel and 20% old barrels – offers fantastic richness and depth in its blackberry liqueur, graphite, wood smoke and crushed-rock-like aromas and flavors. An elegant, stylish and polished example of this cuvée, it comes closest in my mind to a lighter-weight 2010. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and with fine tannin, it will drink well for 10-15 years. (JD)" (10/2014) 93-95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby. 2006 Pierre Usseglio "Mon Aïeul" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A star of the vintage is the 2006 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Mon Aïeul. It is hard to believe how great this wine has turned out to be. I called it last year, and I’m thrilled to see how utterly profound it is. Essentially very old vine Grenache from three different terroirs (the sands of Les Serres, the clay of Guignasse, and the limestone of La Crau), aged 80% in cement tanks and 20% in old barrels, it boasts a dense plum/purple color followed by a glorious bouquet of black cherries, blackberries, truffles, lavender, licorice, and spring flowers. The co ...Read More »
