2010 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival, Elsewhere $100+)

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "The 2010 Beaucastel is a tour de force, brilliantly combining espresso and black olive notes with bright raspberry fruit, while dark earthy notes provide a solid base. The feel on the palate is ample, with tannins that are a bit dusty but not tough or chewy. The long, mouthwatering finish bodes well for the future. Drink now–2030." (2/2015)96 points Wine Spectator: "*#8 on Top 100 Wines of 2013* Dark, dense and very closed now, this has a tremendous core of crushed plum, linzer torte and blackberry confiture waiting in reserve. 2013 Domaine du Pégaü "Cuvée Réservée" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival)

Suave, lush and seamless, offering concentrated, palate-staining flavors of black and blue fruits and lavender pastille are braced by tangy acidity. Finishes with supple tannins, an echo of candied flowers and outstanding persistence." 2012 Chante Cigale Châteauneuf-du-Pape Top Pick!
2012 Chante Cigale Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Jancis Robinson: "Dark and ripe with some savoury character. A cool finish and both very round and mineral. Interesting wine!" Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The straight Châteauneuf du Pape (65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault) comes mostly from rolled-pebble terroir, yet also has a fair chunk from sandy soils as well. A beautiful traditional cuvee, it gives up notions of sweet black cherries, leafy herbs, olive and underbrush to go with a medium-bodied, elegant and textured mouthfeel. Leaning more toward the pretty, finesse-driven end of the spectrum, it drinks beautifully today, but ...Read More »

2013 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival)

92-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Looking at the 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape, I was able to taste the individual components, with each showing fantastic depth and richness. The Mourvedre is the star of the show and had blockbuster levels of concentration and depth, with perfectly ripe tannin. While certainly not a Grenache year, even this variety showed well here, and it’s obvious that the multiple passes through the vineyard during harvest and then multiple sorts in the winery paid off. This should come together beautifully in bottle and be one of the vintage's strongest efforts. One of ...Read More »

2010 Xavier Vins "Cuvée Anonyme" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Previously $55.00)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The powerful, rich 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Anonyme reveals an off-the-chart level of extract, lots of glycerin (nearly 16% natural alcohol) and copious black cherry, blueberry, forest floor, lavender and graphite characteristics. This full-throttle red requires 3-4 years of cellaring and should keep for two decades. Silky tannins add grip and shape to the long, spice-accented finish, which shows superb clarity and thrust. It is a sublime expression of the art of winemaking as evidenced by its dense purple color and big, sweet kiss of kirsch, framboise, blackberries, licorice, roasted herbs, and smoked meat. 2012 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "What I think might end up being the best Beaucastel since the 1990 or 2001, the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape offers a full-bodied, decadent style to go with awesome black and blue fruits, garrigue, licorice, crushed flowers and violets. The purity here is truly something, and it has fabulous mid-palate concentration, building tannin and massive texture. Given all of the fruit and texture here, it will no doubt drink well in its youth, but it should still be alive and kicking after two decades as well. Gorgeous all around, with a sexy, voluptuous profile, it gives up notions of sweet blackberries, currants, underbrush, strawberry and mineral on the nose. According to the importer, Paris Wine Company: "The wines of Domaine de la Jaufrette are resolutely old-fashioned, as the domaine has refused to change the winemaking style since the André and Paulette Chastan moved to Orange in the 1950s. The couple both came from winemaking families in the Southern Rhone (André from Vaqueyras, Paulette from Gigondas), but they wanted to create their own doamine, so as a young married couple, they purchased land just on the edge of Chateauneuf-du-Pape and planted 5 hectares of Cotes-du-Rhone. (10/2009)93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Sexy, expressive scents of black raspberry, star anise, lavender and smoky minerals. Lively red ...Read More »

2009 Xavier Vins "Cuvée Anonyme" Châteauneuf-du-Pape Back In Stock!
2009 Xavier Vins "Cuvée Anonyme" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are approximately 10,000 bottles of the sensational 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Anonyme, which is fashioned from an unusual blend of 25% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, 25% Syrah and the remaining 25% Counoise, Vaccarese and other authorized varietals. Its opaque purple color is followed by a wine of extraordinary intensity. Copious notes of licorice, garrigue, underbrush, blackberries, black currants and graphite are present in this full-bodied, modern-styled, fragrant, distinctive Chateauneuf. This terrific, voluptuous 2009 should drink well young an ...Read More »

2006 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Back In Stock!
2006 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape is forward and ready to go, with plenty of kirsch, blackberry, garrigue and cured meat aromas and flavors all emerging from the glass. Full-bodied and nicely concentrated, it’s a classic, elegant and complex red that can be enjoyed anytime over the coming decade or longer. As is common with a lot of 2006s, it has a traditional feel, yet offers solid fruit and texture. (JD)" (8/2014)93 points Wine Spectator: "Slightly firm, with juniper, sage and sandalwood hints framing dark plum, currant, coffee and mineral notes. The grippy finish has a cedar note in ...Read More »

2012 Olivier Hillaire "Les Petits Pieds d'Armand" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

95-98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even better, and possibly the wine of the vintage, the 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Petits d’Armand is about as fabulous an expression of old vine Grenache as you’re likely to find. Massive and decadent, yet lively and fresh, it offers up a sweet bouquet of berry fruits, licorice, incense, flowers, garrigue to go with full-bodied richness and depth, thrilling purity, good freshness and blockbuster length. Gorgeous all around, it should drink well on release, yet last for 15+ years. Don’t miss it! Drink 2014-2027. A lineup of wines that just blew me away ...Read More »

2010 Domaine Galevan Châteauneuf-du-Pape Back In Stock!
2010 Domaine Galevan Châteauneuf-du-Pape

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape is one of the finest traditional cuvees I have tasted as well as a sleeper of the vintage. Made from 90% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre from 55-year-old vines, it exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as a stunning perfume of creme de cassis, kirsch, incense, licorice and a vague notion of beef blood and roasted Provencal herbs. All of the fruit comes from vines planted in the northern end of the appellation. This exquisite, full-throttle Chateauneuf du Pape should drink well for 15 or more years. It is a major star of the v ...Read More »

2012 Raymond Usseglio Châteauneuf-du-Pape "Cuvée Impériale" (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
2012 Raymond Usseglio Châteauneuf-du-Pape "Cuvée Impériale" (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "My favorite of the lineup, and one of the top Châteauneufs in the vintage, the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Imperiale is 95% Grenache (5% other varieties) that comes from 100-year-old vines and the pure sand soils of the Piallon (near Rayas) and Girardette (near Charbonnière) lieux-dits. It offers awesome black and blue fruits, violets, licorice and crushed rock-like minerality in its full-bodied, balanced, pure and elegant profile. Impressively concentrated, inky colored and with sweet tannin, it’s capable of evolving for 12-15 years or more. (JD)" (10/2014) ...Read More »

2007 Domaine du Pégaü "Cuvée da Capo" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival)

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "For the fourth time, the Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee da Capo has been produced, and for the fourth time, it has received a perfect score although I might back off the 2000's perfect score based on the fact that it seems to be more of an upper-ninety point wine than pure perfection these days. The 2007 may come closest in style to the 1998, the debut vintage, although the tannins are sweeter and the wine is perhaps fatter and richer in the mouth. The alcohols in these cuvees can be very high, ranging from 16.1% in 2003, 15.8% in 2000, 16.3% in 1998, to 15.5 ...Read More »

2007 Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe "La Crau" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
2007 Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe "La Crau" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Vieux Telegraphe may be the greatest wine made at this property since the 2005 and 1998. Dense ruby/purple-tinged with an exquisite nose of salty sea breezes, licorice, ground pepper, jammy black cherries, black currants, figs, and plums, this is a full-bodied, rich, Provencal-styled offering with lots of sweet, ripe tannin. It is surprisingly accessible for a Vieux Telegraphe (this wine normally shuts down several years after bottling), but it should have great longevity (25+ years) given its power, full-bodied mouthfeel, and enormous length an ...Read More »

2001 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2001 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (96RP, 93WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beaucastel has been on a terrific qualitative roll over the last four vintages, and the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape (which Francois Perrin feels is similar to the 1990, although I don’t see that as of yet) is a 15,000-case blend of 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, and the balance split among the other permitted varietals of the appellation. This inky/ruby/purple-colored cuvee offers a classic Beaucastel bouquet of new saddle leather, cigar smoke, roasted herbs, black truffles, underbrush, and blackberry as well as cherry fruit. It is a superb, earthy expression of this Mourvedre-dominated cuvee. Full-bodied and powerful, it will undoubtedly close down over the next several years, not to re-emerge for 7-8 years. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2025. (RP)" (02/2004)

2009 Domaine du Pégaü "Cuvée Réservée" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
2009 Domaine du Pégaü "Cuvée Réservée" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The bottled 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee is as compelling as I thought it would be after tasting it last year. A blend of 85% Grenache with the rest Syrah, Mourvedre and small dollops of the other authorized varietals, this wine tends to come from the estate’s holdings in the eastern sector of Chateauneuf du Pape. The opaque purple-colored 2009 exhibits magnificent, rich berry fruit intertwined with cedar, Christmas fruitcake, licorice, charcuterie, roasted meats, smoked duck, kirsch, blackberries and god knows what else. It is an amazingly co ...Read More »

2009 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Also gorgeous, but in a more forward, perfumed style, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape is loaded with kirsch, wild strawberry, licorice, Asian spice and wild herb-like aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, sweetly fruited, voluptuous and textured, it’s hard to resist now, but will age gracefully. (JD)" (8/2014)93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Vivid purple. Powerful cherry and dark berry aromas are complemented by a sexy floral nuance. Smooth and deep on the palate, offering juicy red and dark berry preserve flavors that become spicier with air. The floral quality carries through on the subtly ...Read More »

1988 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape

90 points Wine Spectator: "Elegant and understated, with lovely fruit and structure. Has an excellent deep color, with focused black cherry and refined spice aromas, a full body of refined tannins and spice and berry flavors. Needs time to develop." (10/1991)89 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1988 is firmly structured and elegant, with sweet, sweaty horse/old leather notes that may or may not be brett. Medium-bodied, earthy, firm, and vigorous, my instincts suggest it has reached full maturity, but I suspect it will always remain a firm, muscular example of Beaucastel without the charm, depth, and intensity of e ...Read More »
