2000 d'Angludet, Margaux

89 points Wine Spectator: "Fresh herb and berry character, with a medium body, medium tannins and a silky finish. Needs time to come around. Best after 2007." (3/2003) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 is an uncompromising, traditional claret, displaying a deep ruby color and a nose of cedar, damp earth, plums, and currants. Medium to full-bodied, solidly tannic, and attractive, it will age well for 10-15 years. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2017." (4/2003) K&L Notes: Neil Martin's Wine Journal 90-92 points: "First tasted in February 2002. A beautiful nose of blackcurrants, lemongrass and cherry. Great definition. Palate i... Read More »

1996 Suduiraut, Sauternes

89 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Slight SO2 and a whiff of licorice on the nose. Fat, oaky and moderately thick; fairly sweet but doesn't offer the shape or depth of flavor of the '97. The finish, though, is ripe, honeyed and long." (8/1999) Jancis Robinson: "Bright gold. Pretty simple on the nose. Very big and barley sugar on the palate. You couldn’t fail to like this even if it not one of the subtlest. Chewy end. (17/20 points JR)" (6/2011) K&L Notes: Pineapple aromas and up-front fruit on the palate. Very honeyed and rich. A powerhouse.

1999 Ferrand Lartigue, St-Emilion

89 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is a modern-styled St.-Emilion with copious quantities of smoky, toasty oak, ripe, fleshy, earthy, black cherry and cassis characteristics, and plenty of pain grille (toast) notes. The wine exhibits excellent ripeness, purity, and more flesh and length than it did last year. Drink it over the next decade." (4/2002) K&L Notes: The past several years we've tasted and enjoyed the wines from Ferrand Lartigue. They continue to demonstrate that they're on a serious roll. Vinification of this small estate is done by Louis Mitjavile, the son of Francois (from Tertre Rot... Read More »

1990 Meyney, St-Estèphe

89 points Wine Spectator: "A bit rustic, but impressive. Dark garnet color. Lots of currant, prune and cherry on the nose. Full-bodied, with tobacco, cherry and tar character and big velvety tannins.--1990 Bordeaux retrospective. Drink now." (8/2000) Decanter: "Deep red; reserved nose; rich, rounded, ripe tannins, fruit rather muted now but good potential; quite good length." (6/1994) K&L Notes: One of the oldest estates in the Médoc, Château Meyney sits on a hilltop overlooking the Gironde estuary. The wine is deep red, earthy, and well-structured.

1999 Branaire-Ducru, St-Julien

89 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Branaire is from an under-rated estate. This is a beautifully perfumed effort revealing scents of graphite, lead pencil shavings, blueberries, raspberries, and black currants. The wine is rich, layered, medium-bodied, pure, and elegant. It is a complex St.-Julien with good flavor depth, soft tannin, and unobtrusive acidity. Drink it now and over the next 12-15+ years." (4/2002) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Ruby-red. Aromas of smoky oak, chocolate, tobacco leaf, mint and earth. Flavors generally cooler than those of the 2001 and 2000, ranging from red fruit liqueur to less-rip ...Read More »

2000 Potensac, Médoc

89 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In my report on the 2000 vintage in issue #146 (dated 4-23-03), I forgot to include my review of the 2000 Potensac. It is a beautiful sleeper of the vintage. Rich and concentrated, it may be the finest Potensac since the 1982." (10/2003) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good medium ruby-red. Slightly medicinal aromas of blueberry, dark chocolate and game, with a liqueur-like exotic quality. Tightly wound and penetrating; in a rather brutal stage today, and not showing the lushness or sweetness of the vintage. Finishes firmly tannic, with a note of licorice." (10/2003) Wine Spectator: "Firm and well-done, wi ...Read More »

1996 Langoa-Barton, St-Julien

89 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Ruby-red. Floral, cedary aromas of blackcurrant and licorice. Concentrated but quite pliant in the middle palate. Ripe tannins nicely supported by fruit extract." (6/1999)89 points Wine Spectator: "Blackberry, floral and dark chocolate follow through to a medium body, with fine tannins and a fresh finish.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Drink now. 2,500 cases made. (Web-2007)" K&L Notes: This property is owned by the legendary Anthony Barton, owner of both Langoa and Leoville Barton. It's also created by the same staff as Leoville Barton, a winemaking team that has few rivals anywhere in the ... Read More »

2000 Yon Figeac, St-Emilion

89 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A super value, this deep ruby/purple-colored St.-Emilion offers aromas and flavors not too dissimilar from a top vintage of the famed L'Evangile. Sweet blackberry and wild mountain berry fruit is interwoven with hints of raisins, plums, and white flowers. Medium-bodied and fleshy, with excellent purity and sweet fruit, this is undoubtedly a sleeper of the vintage. As the wine sits in the glass, more black raspberries seem to emerge. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2015." (4/2003)

2009 Seguin, Pessac-Léognan

89 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot exhibits loads of sweet kirsch and licorice notes as well as loamy soil undertones. It is velvety-textured, with plenty of glycerin, a heady mouthfeel and a long finish. It is a sleeper of the vintage and best drunk over the next decade. (89+)" (2/2012) K&L Notes: Château Seguin, rising star of Pessac-Léognan, is situated 15 kilometres south of Bordeaux. The vineyard was completely replanted in 1988. The owner's aim is to produce great wines while respecting the environment. According to the winery, their 2009 is an... Read More »

2000 Bernadotte, Haut-Médoc

In four short years, the Pichon Lalande team has brought this fine property, bordering Pauillac, to the forefront of value wines. This is their best effort to date. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 40% Merlot. Lots of cassis fruit and black licorice that surrounds the copious tannins. A racy, new wave fruitiness-fresh and lively on the palate. Excellent. 89 points Robert Parker: "This property (which borders Lafite, Mouton, and Pontet-Canet) is owned by the proprietors of Pichon-Lalande. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, the 2000 is an elegant... Read More »

1999 Brane Cantenac, Margaux

Easily the best Brane Cantenac we’ve tasted in years. Wonderful wine! The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. Note - the vineyard is only 20% Merlot, which should give you some idea how much they loved the Merlot crop. Perfect balance. Toasty black fruit nose. Really clean and elegant in the mouth. Good brightness. Refined. Perfectly melded fine acidity will carry this elegant wine for years. Tasted three times with consistent notes. 89 points Robert Parker: "A beautifully complex perfume of fresh tobacco as well as cigar smok... Read More »

2000 Fougas Maldoror, Cotes de Bourg

89 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The brilliant 2000 Fougas-Maldoror has a dense ruby/purple color and a nose of hot chocolate intermixed with black cherry jam, plums, and figs. The wine is dense, chewy, fat, and totally delicious. Some tannin in the finish is nearly obscured by relatively high levels of glycerin. Drink it over the next 10-12 years. A sleeper of the vintage." (4/2003)

2009 Verdignan Rouge, Haut-Médoc (3L)

89 points Wine Spectator: "Taut and racy, with a delicious beam of linzer torte, dried black currant and roasted fig flavors, all laced with tobacco leaf and espresso notes. The solid, racy finish shows nice length and cut. Drink now through 2016. (Web-2012)" K&L Notes: Situated near Pauillac, these vineyards are planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% Cab Franc. On the stone lintel of the door's oldest vat of Verdignan there is ingraved a date: 1720! The 2000 is a great bargain from Bordeaux. Great year, and this wine just tastes very good, certainly the best vintage ever produ... Read More »

2009 Lamothe Bergeron, Haut-Médoc (3L)

Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2013 through 2018." (3/2012) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Loads of berry fruit intermixed with some roasted herbs, spice box and licorice can be found in this excellent Haut-Medoc, which has medium body, lots of fragrance and very pure flavors. Drink it over the next 5-7 years. (A member of the Association of Crus Bourgeois du Medoc.)"
