1999 Mommessin Clos de Tart Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1999 Mommessin Clos de Tart Grand Cru (90BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "The oak that sat atop the fruit for so long has now almost completely integrated, allowing the relatively fresh aromas of black cherry, violets and earth hints to have center stage. The supple yet detailed middle weight plus flavors are attractively vibrant and restrained while culminating in a moderately austere finish where the mouth coating tannins are still noticeably firm and ever so slightly dry, which may be due to wood tannins. 1999 Palmer, Margaux
Bid on this bottle of 1999 Palmer, Margaux (95RP, 92ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 is the greatest Palmer made since 1961, 1966, 1970, 1983, and 1989. It is one of the superstars of the vintage. The wine is a blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot. It boasts a staggering bouquet of violets and other spring flowers intermixed with licorice, black currants, and subtle wood. Only 50% of the production made it into the grand vin. This is a multidimensional, compelling effort with both power and elegance, it offers sweet tannin along with flavors that caress the palate, and a 45-second finish. This is terrific stuff! Anticipated maturity: 2004-2025. (RP)" (04/2002)

1999 Ridge Vineyards "Nervo" Sonoma County Late-Picked Zinfandel
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1999 Ridge Vineyards "Nervo" Sonoma County Late-Picked Zinfandel (94RP, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Readers looking for a Zinfandel made in the style of Henri Bonneau's famed Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve des Celestins should check out Ridge's 1999 Zinfandel Nervo Late Picked (ATP). A blend of 92% Zinfandel and 8% Petite Sirah, with only .2% residual sugar, this dry wine is made in an enormously concentrated, full-bodied style. It offers huge layers of blackberry and black cherry fruit intertwined with meat, earth, smoke, and underbrush. Formidably endowed, with enormous amounts of glycerin, this powerful yet supple, accessible 1999 is a tour de force in winemaking. Readers on Ridge's mailing list who enjoy large-scaled wines should be sure to latch onto a few bottles of this gem. (RP)" (10/2001)

1999 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1999 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru (94BH, 92WS, 90ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "I was quite surprised to find just how open for business this was in magnum format as I expected something far more reserved but such was not the case. A beautiful and highly expressive nose of ripe black cherry, earth and the hallmark red pinot fruit is followed by medium weight yet concentrated flavors of bacon, smoke and sappy pinot extract that are given lift and verve by the intense minerality and outstanding length. This has added a good deal of weight and seems more powerful than before yet it remains very stylish and classy with excellent potential though like the same wine in 750 ml (see herein), this is so well balanced and harmonious that it could easily be drunk now with pleasure. That said, unless you are lucky enough to have this in quantity, I would counsel cellaring it for another 5 to 10 years. In a word, terrific." (05/2010)

Of the 1999 Maison Alex Gambal Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The outstanding medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 Charmes-Chambertin has mouth-watering cookie dough, candle wax, and cherry syrup aromas. This is a lush, sexy, feminine wine with oily cherries, raspberries, and blueberries in its expressive personality. While it lacks the density of the vintage's finest wines, it delivers loads of pleasure with its in-your-face, sweet fruit. (PR)" (06/2001)

Wine Enthusiast: "Opens with powerful aromas of cedar, toasty oak and vanilla perfume framing ripe black currant and mocha. Turns wonderfully smooth in the mouth. 1999 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1999 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (95RP, 94WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Lafite Rothschild sports an engraved '1999' on the bottle along with an eclipse to mark that significant historical event of August, 1999. It is a quintessential offering from Lafite Rothschild. This prodigious wine is both elegant and intensely flavored, and almost diaphanous in its layers that unfold with no heaviness. An opaque ruby/purple color is accompanied by a complex bouquet of lead pencil, graphite, cedar, creme de cassis, toast, and vanilla. It is medium-bodied, with extravagant layers of richness yet little weight, and a finish that is all sweetness, ripeness, and harmony. This extraordinary Lafite increasingly appears to be a modern day clone of the majestic 1953. A mere one-third of the crop made it into the grand vin!" (04/2002)

Bid on this bottle of 1999 Domaine Roumier Bonnes Mares Grand Cru (95BH, 95ST, (92-94RP), 94WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: " Dark ruby-red. Much wilder and darker on the nose than the '01, and youthfully unforthcoming today. The palate offers superb intensity, cut and precision, with extremely primary flavors of black fruits, peony and blood orange. I would have placed this somewhere between Le Musigny and a grand cru from Vosne-Romanee. This impressively gripping wine tightened up with air. Finishes with firm tannins and superb clarity, length and class. Needs extended cellaring and should be a great bottle in a decade or so. If this wine seems blacker in character than it did at the outset, the 2001 seemed redder at this tasting than it did when I first tasted it from bottle in 2003. Interestingly, grape sugars in '99 were just 11.9%, and the finished wine is 13% alcohol; the crop level here was 44 hectoliters per hectare, the highest yield for any of the wines in o

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1999 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Proprietary Red (93ST, 91RP, 91WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby. Roasted aromas of currant, black cherry syrup, licorice and grilled nuts. Powerful but smooth and sweet, with superb, extremely unevolved dark berry flavors and a strong mineral note of graphite. Excellent acidity contributes to the impression of intensity. Very long, mounting finish features firm tannins and lively dark berry flavors. This bottling has been consistently superb in recent years, even in the difficult 1998 vintage. 93(+?) points" (06/2002)

Fruit-driven aromas of black cherry, herbs and licorice. Juicy, fruity and aromatic in the mouth, but not as rich or dense as the Cras. Still, this is showing its fruit today, while the Cras is already starting to close down in bottle. Bid on this bottle of 1999 Comtes Lafon Volnay 1er Cru "Santenots du Milieu" (94BH, 90WS). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*Outstanding* While the Clos des Chênes performed as expected relative to the cask sample, the final Santenots was even better than the cask sample. Wonderfully expressive with massive amounts of spicy black fruit and seductive flavors; the wine has an enormous amount of underlying material and is incredibly complex. But it's the length that defines this wine as it simply goes on and on. It's not hard to see why Lafon believes this is one of the finest wines ever produced at the Domaine. Simply magnificent. 1999 Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Ducs"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1999 Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Ducs" (96BH, 93RP). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This stunning Ducster remains almost entirely primary at present though I sense that the nose will begin to turn toward the secondary in the next year or two. There is excellent richness and plenty of supporting structure and minerality to the full-bodied flavors yet the usual precision and focus are present in spades on the mouth coating, serious and still moderately austere finish that delivers explosive length. This is going to be an extremely long-lived wine and while I suspect that it should be approachable and enjoyable around 2017 or so, I doubt that it will be fully ready for at least another 10 to 12 years from now. Irrespective of how long it ultimately requires, the 1999 Ducster is going to be one very special wine when it finally gets there. Drink: 2024+" (04/2012)
