The winegrowing estate of Chateau les Valentines is more than a century old. The estate originally brought their grapes to the local cooperative, but when Gilles and Pascale Pons took over in 1997, they decided to make their own wine. Jancis Robinson: "* WINE OF THE WEEK* Feb 6th 2015: This wine, is to all intents and purposes, a great-value alternative to a dry, herby Bandol rosé. It’s made from the Bandol grape Mourvèdre and has just the same very pale orangey-pink colour, the full body and the dry, food-friendly finish. This is substantial, grown-up rosé that has nothing whatever to do with anything girly, even though the highly competent winemaker is female. 100% Gamay from the heart of the Loire. A lovely pale pink color with hints of strawberry cream and spice on the nose. A very bright and cheerful style of rose with a nice crisp finish that is fantastically refreshing and easy to drink. Third-generation family domaine owned by Franck and Betty Millet in the village of Bué. This rosé of 100-percent Pinot Noir is a blend of pressed juice and saignee juice, and matches beautifully with Asian food. From Robert Sinskey's certified organic vineyards in Carneros, this Vin Gris of Pinot Noir is a rosé made the right way. Grapes were hand-harvested at night before being whole cluster pressed and vinified as rosé from start-to-finish rather than being bled off of a vat of crushed grapes destined to be a red. Based in the Rioja Alta village of Badarán, Martínez Alesanco is a truly original bodega producing tasty, characterful wine for laughably low prices. They are entirely self reliant in grapes, all of which are grown in their home village of Badarán, one of the coldest zones of Rioja Alta. A Rhone-style blend with 70% Grenache Gris and Grenache Noir, and the balance equal parts of Mourvèdre, Carignan, and Cinsault, this fruity and delicious rose offers up aromas and flavors of fresh-picked strawberries and cherries, with tropical fruit accents. It makes a lovely aperitif with olive tapenade on toast, but is balanced and versatile enough to pair with a variety of dishes, from stir fry veggies and grilled fish to slow-cooked lamb with Moroccan spices or roast chicken seasoned with Provençal herbs. 12.5% abv.
This blend—Pinot Noir, Portuguieser, with a touch of Dornfelder—was made by Frank Heyden, a second-generation winemaker who's shown much promise in crafting excellent wines from his family's highly rated vineyards in Rheinhessen. His classic wines really outperform for their price tag.

A pleasant little Côtes de Provence Rosé from a property that's played host to St. Thomas Aquinas in 1252, was the residence of the Prince of Naples in the 1400s, appeared in the Register of Noble Houses. Rock fans may like to know that the recording studio "Studio Miraval" created on the site has reverberated with the music of Sting, Sade and the Cranberries, and that Pink Floyd recorded "The Wall" there in 1979. Negroamaro is a red wine grape variety native to southern Italy. It is grown almost exclusively in Puglia and particularly in Salento, the peninsula which can be visualised as the “heel” of Italy. Following in the footsteps of another one of the D.O.'s more successful Txakoli producers, Txomin Etaniz recently began producing this delicious rosé. A little bit of fiz, some crunchy red fruits, and a lot to like in this rosé! Pascal Jolivet’s domaine covers 49.5 acres in Sancerre, with vineyards close to the villages of Bué, Verdigny and St Gemme. 8.6 acres are planted to Pinot Noir. The vineyards have chalky clay soils. The Sancerre Rose is a blend of direct press and "saignée" method (bleeding off of a portion of the juice from recently-crushed skins) rosé wine. The juice is produced from macerated Pinot Noir grapes that have not been sorted by hand or de-stemmed. The philosophy of the estate is to let nature take its course as much as possible.

This rosé comes from a handful of parcels that total seven hectares of vineyards planted in clay and limestone soils, on a gentle north-northwest-facing slope. Grenache-dominated, with smaller percentages of Mourvedre and Cinsault. Like the Cassis Blanc, the wine is taut, fresh and slightly saline. The winery makes only a small quantity of this, making this extremely hard to find, but its deliciousness makes it highly sought after. Get yours before it's gone.
From the winemaker: "Wild strawberries, crushed rose petal, lavender and pink peppercorn lead to a palate reminiscent of watermelon salt water taffy, amaretti cookie and red currants. The bright and briny acidity is perfectly balanced with a touch of fruit sweetness. This wine is a collaboration between Charles Smith and Charles Bieler, both accomplished vintners who came together in 2008 to make world-class rosé in the Columbia Valley. 2014 was a hot vintage, tempered by a slightly cooler September. This wine is a blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Tibouren and is sourced from vineyards surrounding Clos Cibonne's property. All grapes are grown on clay and schist soils providing expressive floral and mineral notes. A dry but juicy, fruit foward rosé from Maimai Creek in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. Rich, ripe nose of Strawberries, rose petals, butter cream, mint, orange peel and spice. Soft and juicy on the palate but finishes dry and fresh. Very easy to drink on a warm summers evening. Great value.
