2005 Heitz Cellar "Trailside" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Wine Spectator: "This fine new release, with some bottle age, shows signs of subtle maturity. Aromas of mocha, cedar, dried currant and spice box follow through to a full body, This is well-built, with fine balance and good length. Drink now through 2019. 2,260 cases made. (Web-2011)" K&L Notes: In the early 1980s, the Heitz Family acquired a marvelous Rutherford vineyard bordered on one side by the Silverado Trail and nudged on the other by the Conn Creek. Thus the Trailside Vineyard was born. Aged for three-and-a-half years in a combination of American and French Limousin oak, the ... Read More »

2005 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Wine Spectator: "Minty bay leaf aromas are pure, with a spicy edge, leading to firm dark berry, mocha, mineral and sage flavors that are tight and well-structured, with firm, ripe tannins that provide an excellent backbone. Much too young now, however tempting. Should only get much better. Best from 2013 through 2022." (11/2011) K&L Notes: Martha's Vineyards has become one of the most well known Cabernets around the world for its unique mintiness, its rich layers of complexity and its remarkable overall balance. 2005 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red-ruby. Musky aromas of cassis, licorice, game, tobacco leaf and subtle brown spices. Velvety-sweet and deep, with hints of tobacco leaf, mint and herbs giving definition to the middle palate. Nicely bright but youthfully tight wine, finishing with broad tannins. Carrying a moderate 13.5% alcohol. Still tight, but then this won't be released until next winter. Incidentally, following Silver Oak's purchase of a vineyard in Soda Canyon in 1999, this wine now relies less on contract fruit." 2005 Pride Mountain Napa/Sonoma Counties Cabernet Sauvignon Back In Stock!
2005 Pride Mountain Napa/Sonoma Counties Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The deep ruby/purple-colored 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (58% from Napa and 42% from Sonoma) possesses a full-bodied mouthfeel as well as loads of cassis fruit, and smoky, subtle oak in the background. Round, plump, and hedonistic, it should drink well for a decade. (RP)" (12/2007)92 points Wine Enthusiast: "A big, juicy young Cab that impresses for sheer flashiness, yet needs some time for its edges to soften. The ripe blackberry and cassis fruit is deep and generous, with nuances of smoky oak and sweet herbs. But the tannins are very strong and astringent. Needs cellar time. Best afte ...Read More »

2005 Kongsgaard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The debut vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2005, has turned out beautifully. Made from fruit grown in David Abreu’s vineyards, this Cabernet Sauvignon (which includes tiny amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) comes from three distinct vineyards, one above Dalla Valle, and two on the back streets of St. Helena. A deep ruby/purple color is accompanied by notes of espresso roast, fudge, forest floor, creme de cassis, and smoked meats. The wine is layered, full-bodied, and rich. A tour de force in Cabernet Sauvignon, it can be consumed over the next ...Read More »

2005 Whitehall Lane Napa Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously $60)

94 points and one of Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2009: "Made from 100% Cab, this wine pours inky black, and feels softly ripe in the mouth, with pie-filling blackberries, cherries, mocha, plums, tobacco and sweet dusty spices. Shows a tannic astringency that strongly suggests cellaring, although it's flashy now. Best after 2011 and beyond." (05/09) 91 points and two stars from the Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine: "Sweet and slightly chocolaty in character with a strong streak of vanilla matching its very deep, optimally ripened... Connoisseurs Guide: "***Three Stars and Wine of the Year 2008*** This year's version of Insignia is a stunning wine that vies for very top honors of the vintage. Its utterly enveloping aromas of perfectly ripe currants, creamy oak and dried violets are followed up in the mouth with wonderfully extracted, carefully proportioned Cabernet flavors that go on and on. The wine is lush yet solidly structured with a fine sense of balance and tannin right where it should be, and, as good as the wine will be in its youth, it will be better yet with age."

2005 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 95ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by beautiful aromas of blueberries, black currants, acacia flowers, licorice, and spice. The tannins are softer than I remember, but this is certainly one of the vintage’s most extraordinary wines. Full-bodied with a seamless integration of tannin, acidity, alcohol, and wood, it is exceptionally pure and full as well as impeccably balanced. The impression is one of elegance allied with substantial flavor authority. It can be drunk now or cellared for 25+ years." (12/2008)

(10/2008)94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is the densest, most tannic of Pride’s new releases, obviously meant for the cellar. Its tantalizing plumpness and succulent Merlot properties are offset just now by a bit of Cabernet toughness that prescribes a bit of patience, and make no mistake about it, this compelling effort is certainly bound for better, and it will continue to unfold for six to twelve years and last longer." This wine needs 3-4 years of bottle age, and should last 25-30 years." (12/2007)92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep, saturated ruby. 2005 Diamond Creek "Red Rock Terrace" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Diamond Creek "Red Rock Terrace" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (98W&S, 93CG). Wine & Spirits: "A California beauty, this wine is driven by fruit from the moment it's first poured, supercharged with energy that only seems to increase over the course of several days. Mouthwatering plum, cool earth, saturated layers of fig, eucalyptus and spice, all delicious and all incidental to the power that courses through the wine. Grown in soil reddened by iron oxide, the tannins have that ferrous character of wild mushrooms flash roasted in an iron skillet. That warm, earthen character contrasts with the foresty tone of the wine, as cool as the manzanita grove just up the creek. All three of the Diamond Creek wines in 2005 draw their complexity directly from their varied soils and expositions, with fruit ripened to a dynamic, natural balance. The tension between fruit and earth in Red Rock Terrace is particularly awesome on release." (12/2008)

2005 Joseph Phelps "Backus" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Price be damned, this is an authentically gorgeous, important Cabernet Sauvignon. It calls to mind the amazing 2001, with its huge, perfect tannins and acids and artistic appliqué of new oak. But the star of the show surely is the fruit. Mounds of ripe blackberries and cherries pile up, veering into currants and cassis and something wild and decadently animal, like charred meat. Fabulous now despite the firm tannins, and should evolve for many years." Full-bodied and powerful, this dense ruby/purple-tinged offering is a tour de force in Cabernet Sauvignon. It possesses enough sweet tannin to provide early accessibility, but it should age beautifully for 10-15+ years. Given a similar upbringing to the Tempest, it comes across as more structured, with plenty of sweet creme de cassis fruit intermixed with incense, pain grille, chocolate, and lavender. 2005 Gemstone "Facets" Yountville Proprietary Red (1.5L)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Facets is elegant, austere by the standards of California, and almost a dead-ringer for a Medoc from Bordeaux. The wine is dark ruby/purple-tinged with a floral, restrained nose of sweet cherries and soil and undertones of underbrush and barrique. The wine is medium-bodied, pretty, pure, and represents an attractive, French-styled blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot. Slightly raw aromas of raspberry, chocolate, tobacco, pepper and herbs; conveys a strong impression of gravelly soil, not unlike the northern Medoc.
