2008 Fonseca Late Bottled Vintage "Unfiltered" Port

93 points Decanter: "Open, opulent wild mint and berry fruit nose. Rich, succulent summer fruit on the palate: plums and cherries, backed by firm, stony tannins with a touch of black pepper. Bottled with a stopper cork. For drinking now and over the next two years. Drink 2014-2017." (12/2014)93 points Wine Spectator: "Focused and pure-tasting, with concentrated flavors of red plum, crushed raspberry and violet that are broad, rich and plush. Well-sculpted, offering a finish that bursts with dark chocolate and spice notes. Drink now through 2030." Ramos Pinto White Port

White port is one of the world's most civilized aperitifs, and we here at K&L think that the Ramos Pinto is one of the best. Made from Malvasia Fina and Codega grapes (mostly grown on the Ramos Pinto estate) that are picked quite ripe, this wine is then aged for three years in traditional port barrels called "pipes." Full-bodied and exotic, it is incomparable on the rocks with an orange twist. Since it has had extended barrel age and is fortified, it is no problem to have keep it in the refrigerator for a month after opening it, but I doubt it will last ... Read More »

Fonseca "Terra Bella" Reserve Port

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Terra Prima Organic Port is just terrific. The nose is so fresh and well defined with blackcurrant fruit infused with faint touches of mandarin, dark cherries, fresh dates and liquorice. The palate is nicely balanced with slightly tarry black fruit. It offers lifted acidity and a spirituous nature without any loss in tension and there is a pleasant kick of volatility towards the refined, harmonious finish. I appreciate the edginess and tension on this wine, a sense of elegance that I usually associate more with Taylors than with a Fonseca. This comes ...Read More »

Graham's 10-year-old Tawny Port

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice* Powered with acidity and its firm structure, this is an intensely dry, concentrated, powerful wine. It certainly has wines in the blend that are older than 10 years, yet it is definitely a 10-Year Old in style, as the fresh fruit to finish confirms." (8/2006)90 points Wine Spectator: "This has a zesty, sweet floral aroma, with delicate, well-spiced flavors of apple tart, flan and cocoa powder. The plush, mouthfilling finish of cream, vanilla and raspberry is fresh and balanced. Drink now." (12/2010) Jancis Robinson: "What handsome squat bottles Graham's tawnies come in... 1997 Fonseca Vintage Port

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Somewhat of a lightweight for Fonseca, but undeniably charming, this dark ruby/purple-colored wine offers a floral, exotic, flamboyant bouquet, a sweet, fleshy style, but not a great deal of weight or massiveness. Heady alcohol, sweet tannin, and a velvety texture make for a gorgeous finish. While I would have preferred to have seen more weight, structure, and intensity, this is an outstanding, albeit lighter than normal Fonseca. Anticipated maturity: now-2020." The bright finish is filled with spice and supported by fresh acidity." (10/2013)90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a hugely dry, burnt style, very concentrated. 2000 Taylor Vintage Port (375ml)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Among the most saturated blue/purple/black-colored examples of the vintage, Taylor's 2000 tastes like a young vintage of Chateau Latour on steroids. Aromas of graphite, blackberry liqueur, creme de cassis and smoke jump from the glass. Spectacularly concentrated and enormously endowed, with sweetness allied to ripe tannin, decent acidity, and layer upon layer of fruit and extract, this is the leading candidate for the port of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2040." (10/2002)96 points Wine Enthusiast: "This was perhaps the most prototypically 'Taylor' wine of the vertical, wit ...Read More »

Complex and elegant, delivering concentrated crème brûlée and tropical fruit notes that linger on the vibrant and buttery finish. Drink now." (10/2013)96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Red and black berries bring out the richness of the year, masking the seriously tannic structure. A field blend of typical grapes, it comes in at 157 grams per liter of residual sugar. In the overall context of amazing old Colheitas, it may not take 1st prize, but it will strike anyone who loves them as pretty fine. (8/2010) Wine Enthusiast: "A reserve style of Port, with a fine perfumed character, with damson skins and stalky black berries. The style is soft, not noticeably sweet, with a definite dry center. Quinta do Infantado Ruby Port

Quinta do Infantado has been a leader in estate-bottled Ports since 1979. Until that time, all exported Ports had to be shipped in bulk to Vila Nova de Gaia, 60 miles west of the Douro Valley, where they were bottled and shipped. This practice effectively prevented small private producers from exporting their wines, since the cost of running an operation in another town was prohibitive for these vineyard owners. In 1986 the laws were changed. The Quinta is based in Pinhão, specifically in the subdistrict of Gontelho where the best Port vineyards may be f... Read More »

Returning after one 45 minutes that nose has shut up shop. Casa de Santa Eufemia White Tawny

The world of Port wine is not simply a matter of vintage, LBV, ruby and tawny. There are, of course, the lovely vintage-dated tawnies (colheitas), white ports of varying sweetness levels, and examples such as the Casa de Santa Eufemia White Tawny. It is essentially a non-designated, barrel aged, vintage white port, all from the 1973 vintage. With aromas and flavors of dried citric fruits, contrasted by a variety of spicy and sweet nuances of flavor, think of this as sort of an Oloroso meets old tawny port. Very cool wine and a great value considering its... Read More »

This opaque purple-colored wine is not as developed or flamboyant as Fonseca, but it is super-concentrated and multi-layered, with huge masses of fruit and some tannin in the finish. This is a slightly drier style than Fonseca or Graham's, but it appears to be a ...Read More »

1977 Taylor Vintage Port

97 points Wine Spectator: "Good ruby color still. The nose is fresh, with lots of crushed berry and plum, with a hint of piecrust. Full-bodied, with firm tannins and a caressing texture. This delivers loads of complex fruit and spiciness. Medium-sweet. A beauty. Will improve for decades, but why wait? (Web Only-2008)"96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This house must certainly be the Latour of Portugal. Their ports are remarkably backward yet still impressive when young. Of all the vintage ports, those of Taylor need the longest time to mature and even when fully mature seem to have an inner strength and firmness th ...Read More »

1985 Graham's Vintage Port

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Graham is the undisputed star and kingpin of the 1985 vintage ports. Yes, it is made in a sweeter style than the other ports, but it is a fabulous wine because of a dazzling level of black-cherry fruit, an enormous structure, and staggering depth, dimension, and length. (RP)" (1/1989)96 points Wine Spectator: "Dark color, with intense aromas of blackberry, licorice and hints of flowers. Full-bodied, lightly sweet, with superrefined tannins. Long and caressing. Very youthful. Will improve for a long time. This is really excellent. Always has been. Just starting to come around. (Web- ...Read More »

1977 Fonseca Vintage Port

100 points James Suckling: "I found a bottle of 1977 Fonseca in my cellar - probably my last. It was absolutely gorgeous. I gave this fortified wine a perfect score in its youth and I think it has finally evolved into its perfection as a mature vintage Port. Here is the tasting note. 1977 Fonseca Vintage Port: This is in total balance now with such harmony. What amazing aromas of berry and flowers. Full and sweet, the tannins are complete dissolved. The fruit is perfect. This goes on for minutes. Drink now. But it will go forever." (8/2013)100 points Wine Spectator: "What a Vintage Port. Dark ruby center, with ...Read More »

1994 Taylor's Vintage Port

100 points James Suckling: "This is, to date, the greatest Vintage Port ever from here. It overwhelmed me years ago when I tasted it from barrel, but only now is it crossing gradually into its drinking window. The intensity is still mind-boggling here, with sweet-and-sour notes as well as mounds of clay. There are violets lurking somewhere too. A full-bodied, medium sweet and sublime Vintage Port, showing forest fruits and freshly picked blackberries on the palate in the form of a creamy, focused and tannic texture."
