2010 Franc Mayne, St-Emilion

94 points James Suckling: "Fabulous aromas of crushed blueberries and minerals with flowers follow through to a full body, with solid fruit and tannin structure and a long, long finish. Very intense. Better than 2009. Try in 2017." (2/2013)92 points Wine Spectator: "This delivers the profile of the vintage, with spice-infused raspberry, boysenberry and blackberry fruit coursing along nicely, followed by delineated anise and spice notes, all carried by a racy graphite spine. Rock-solid and nicely balanced, this should age elegantly. Best from 2014 through 2024. (Web-2013)" Jancis Robinson: "Rather sweet and sumptuous on the nos ...Read More »

2001 Tertre Daugay, St-Emilion

Jancis Robinson: "60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc. Ripe, expressive, dry fruit. Tannins that sneak up on the finish. Lovely development of flavour, but the palate is a bit angular. Drink to 2018. (RH)" (6/2013) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This appears to be an attractive, elegant, strong effort from Tertre-Daugay. The wine shows deep, sweet, herb-tinged black cherry and currant fruit intermixed with some spice box and fruitcake. It is elegant, medium-bodied, sweet..." So enjoyable already. Best ever from here? Better in 2015." (2/2013)92 points Wine Spectator: "This has a really nice graphite frame that drives the core of fig, plum and boysenberry fruit authoritatively, with dense ganache, espresso and tar on the finish. Jancis Robinson: "Fine perfume, becoming more meaty. Really moreish, dry and quite firm. Perhaps a little more structure than fruit." (11/2009) Wine & Spirits: "The aroma is complex and layered with rich cherries and smoky oak tones. This is a smooth-textured, traditional St-Emilion. A bit of bottling sulfur will dissipate as the wine ages, and the tannins will soften up for a steak." (10/2008) Wine Spectator: "Vanilla, licorice and violet aromas follow through to a medium-to-full body, with silky tannins and a medium finish. (Web-2008)" K&L Notes: Wow! What a delicious wine. Soft and supple with tons of spicy fruit on the nose and palate. Semi-new wave, but fine structure and balance. Excellent value. Another find on our 2012 Bordeaux buy trip. Organically cultivated. (Clyde Beffa, K&L Co-Owner and Bordeaux Buyer)

2010 Divon, St-Georges St-Emilion

We loved this wine on our April 2012 Bordeaux trip. A 2010 with lots of sweetness and forward fruit. Blackberries abound here. Great value. (Clyde Beffa, K&L Co-Owner and Bordeaux Buyer) It comes from the miniscule St-Georges St-Emilion Appellation, which is located within the boundaries of Montagne-St-Emilion. The vineyards of Château Divon have a specially privileged terroir. They face straight south. Always a plus in this uncertain maritime climate!

2001 Corbin Michotte, St-Emilion

Corbin Michotte owns 32 acres of vineyards in the Saint-Emilion region, bordering the Pomerol appellation. Two distinct soil types exist in the estate vineyards: sandy soils on iron-clay subsoil, and clay soils. This duality of the terroir contributes to the complex yet balanced wines for which Corbin Michotte is known. 2001 was a very good year for Bordeaux reds in this region; they are characterized by a refined style and ripe tannins. Super delicious wine.

92-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This full-bodied beauty exhibits a dense opaque purple color in addition to copious notes of creme de cassis, kirsch, licorice and incense. It should drink well for 15-20 years. This will be a sleeper of the vintage. A superstar of the vintage (not surprising given how successful the proprietors, the Decoster family, have been over the last decade or more), this 58-acre vineyard located near the village of St.-Etienne de Lisse enjoyed yields of 34 hectoliters per hectare. (4/2012)92 points James Suckling: "Wonderful aromatic nose of flowers, blackberry and currants. Full body with fine tannins and a subtle finish. The ripe fruit and fine tannins are subdued right now but show potential for the vintage. This is the last vintage of this wine, as the vineyards have been amalgamated into Bélair-Monange. Thunevin and his partner, Murielle Andraud (who has much of the responsibility for their brilliant Margaux, Marojallia), exhibit impeccable attention to detail, resulting in an inky/blue/purple-colored 2005 Valandraud boasting a sweet nose of melted chocolate, licorice, graphite, espresso roast, and copious quantities of black cherries and blackberries. Vinification of this small estate is done by Louis Mitjavile, the son of Francois (from Tertre Rot... Read More »

1999 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The complex, explosively fragrant 1999 Cheval Blanc is a blend of 59% Merlot and 41% Cabernet Franc. It is already showing well, which is a good sign for a wine that traditionally is reserved early in life, but puts on weight and richness in the bottle. Stylistically, this wine is probably cut from the same mold as vintages such as 1985, 1966, and 1962. The color is a dense ruby with purple nuances. Once past the blockbuster bouquet of menthol, leather, black fruits, licorice, and mocha, the wine reveals medium body, extraordinary elegance, purity, and s ...Read More »

2012 Beau-Séjour Bécot, St-Emilion (Pre-Arrival)

92-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A spectacular wine from this nearly 50-acre vineyard situated atop St.-Emilion’s famed limestone plateau, the final blend for the 2012 Beau-Sejour Becot was 70% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. It achieved 14% natural alcohol and yields were 31 hectoliters per hectare. One of the stars of the vintage, it is elegant yet powerful, rich and authoritative with abundant black raspberry, blueberry, graphite and toasty vanillin notes. Full-bodied and super rich for a 2012, it is packed with potential. The tannins are ripe as well as abundan ...Read More »

2005 La Confession, St-Emilion

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Opaque purple, with a sweet blue and blackberry perfume intertwined with licorice and graphite, the 2005 La Confession exhibits massive concentration and extraction, but this full-bodied wine pulls back from being over-the-top because of intrinsic freshness and admirable purity. It is a brilliant effort from the young Janouiex, but it needs some cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2028" (4/2008) Wine Spectator: "Very floral and fruity, with hints of blackberry and flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, with firm tannins and a good density of fruit. Long and racy. A little rese ...Read More »

2000 Quinault L'Enclos, St-Emilion

90-92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good bright medium ruby. Dark berries, bitter chocolate and sexy smoky oak tones on the nose. Fat, full, concentrated and lush, with strong soil character and sound vinosity, giving the wine a chewy texture. Denser than the 2001. Finishes long and spicy, with ripe, suave tannins." (5/2002)91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "While not performing nearly as well as I had hoped, the 2000 Quinault l’Enclos is, nevertheless, an outstanding, fully mature St.-Emilion. Raspberry, black currant, and floral characteristics are accompanied by striking elegance, but less richness and intensity than I no ...Read More »

2000 Canon-La-Gaffelière, St-Emilion

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Performing as I expected, but still several years away from full maturity, this extraordinarily flamboyant, full-bodied, opulent, sexy St. Emilion stood out for its backward structure and youthful personality. A dark plum/garnet hue is followed by a superb bouquet of roasted coffee, kirsch, blackberries, licorice, herbs, and forest floor. Full-bodied, dense, rich, and pure, it is a total hedonistic as well as intellectual turn-on. Enjoy it over the next decade. (RP)" (6/2010)93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Moderately saturated ruby-red. Knockout superripe nose combines red- and blackcur ...Read More »

2003 Pavie Macquin, St-Emilion

96 points Wine Spectator: "Incredible nose of raspberry jam with vanilla and floral undertones. Full-bodied, with velvety, caressing tannins and loads of fruit on the finish." (3/2006)95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a cool terroir on clay and limestone soils (the perfect scenario for producing great wine in 2003), the 2003 Pavie Macquin is composed of 84% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, and achieved 13.8% natural alcohol. Full-bodied, young and vigorous, the wine exhibits a dense blue/black color to the rim along with a stunning nose of asphalt, truffle, blackberry, cassis, lead pencil ...Read More »

2005 Monbousquet, St-Emilion

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a less than noble terroir in Saint-Sulpice de Faleyrens, Gerard Perse has accomplished miraculous things at Monbousquet. Prior to his acquisition of this property in the mid-nineties, this wine tasted like watered-down Beaujolais, but Perse has turned it into one of the more stunning, modern-styled wines of Bordeaux. A blend of approximately two-thirds Merlot, one-third Cabernet Franc and 8-10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2005 exhibits plenty of toasty oak, roasted herb, meat juice, blackberry, cherry, and spice characteristics along with a touch of inc ...Read More »
