90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red with ruby highlights. Expressive aromas of raspberry, violet and tea leaf on the perfumed, Sangiovese-dominated nose. Dense and sweet, boasting lovely depth and plenty of framing energy to its blueberry and sour red cherry flavors. Building but polished tannins coat the palate on the long, bright finish. Very impressive Montefalco Rosso." (3/2013)90 points Wine Enthusiast: "The entire line-up from Arnaldo Caprai has been very successful this year. This blend of Sangiovese, Sagrantino and Merlot delivers a smooth mouthfeel and ripe fruit flavors, with background tone ...Read More »
This batch of the Blason Brut sparkling wine is made from 100% Ribolla Gialla grapes and is produced in a "long Charmat" method, meaning that it spend six months in tanks. Blason is from Isonzo in Italy's north easternmost region, called Friuli, which borders Slovenia.
94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good medium red. Less expressive on the nose than the Briccotto, hinting at ripe, musky plum, black raspberry, menthol and tobacco. Then smooth and sweet in the mouth, but with terrific energy keeping the red fruit and tobacco flavors fresh and primary. Sweeter and more elegant in style than the 2009, but this fine-grained, firmly tannic wine really shut down in the glass. Outstanding potential here." (12/2013)93 points James Suckling: "A solid wine for the vintage with pretty fruit such as cherry and plum, as well as a light minerality. Full body with chewy tannins and a polis ...Read More »
Salento is a stones throw away from the Adriatic Sea. You get a hint of that salinity in this Primitivo and a lot of sunshine. The dark brooding fruit and milk chocolate will lure you in and coat your mouth with brandied cherries, mulberry jam, ginger and tobacco. An intense wine likes intense food. Pasta with wild boar ragu, pork stew, tripe, fire roasted beef, rich tomato sauce. This wine received award at Gambero Rosso, one of the highest regarded Italian wine festivals in the world.
91 points James Suckling: "A rich and fruit Chardonnay with apple pie and milk aromas and flavors. Full and fruity, with lots going on. Always excellent." (12/2011)90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good, medium yellow color with gold highlights. Bright, pure aromas of tropical fruit, lime and white pepper. Dense, supple and fresh, offering bright orchard fruit, butter and pineapple flavors that gain depth and spiciness with air. In an exuberant, in-your-face, fruit-filled New World style, but avoids coming across as an over-the-top caricature. Serious unoaked chardonnay with impressive purity." (10/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Cha ...Read More »
Jancis Robinson: "The entry-level wine from Sting and Trudie Tyler's estate in Tuscany. A blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino which doesn't see any oak. Quite pale, very bright ruby. Bright aromas too - cough sweets and aniseed balls and sweet-sour cherry. Slightly raw fruit on the palate. Chewy tannins. Plenty of fresh acidity and no specious sweetness of fruit but without tremendous depth, and short on the finish. Cheerful, though." Wine Spectator: "A rich, fruity style, exuding cherry, raspberry, licorice and spice flavors. Finishes with a solid grip of tannins. Drink now through ...Read More »
Jancis Robinson: "Monforte d’Alba. Quite deep ruby with narrow orange rim – oak? Very closed and reluctant on the nose, with only a hint of bacon. Succulent fruit with a muscular tannic structure and multilayered finish, but not nearly ready. (17/20)" (6/2014) K&L Notes: Started by Angelo Germano in 1908, this estate has been run by the fourth generation of Germanos--Davide--since the 1990s.
90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino is a pretty and nuanced wine that paints a more complete picture of the 2009 vintage. It opens to a compelling dark color and shows good density in the glass with dark ruby and garnet highlights. The bouquet is masculine and savory with deep renderings of dried fruit, spice, leather, cola and licorice. Within a few moments, very distant tones of black truffle and earthly highlights begin to emerge from the glass and give the wine that extra Sangiovese character you look for in Brunello. There’s more texture here as well. N ...Read More »
93 points James Suckling: "A wine with blueberry and chocolate character. Medium body with hints of orange peel and cocoa. Lot of dried strawberries too. A small Brunello production with soul. Top cuvée. Drink or hold." (2/2014)90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good full red. Sexy aromas of ripe raspberry, sweet spices, tobacco and quinine, plus mineral and truffle nuances. Fresh and vibrant on the palate, with a strong spine of acids and tannins nicely supporting the wine's underlying rich, ripe red-fruit sweetness. Finishes with excellent length and balance." (7/2014)
93 points James Suckling: "Aromas of tar and asphalt combined with strawberries follow through to a full-bodied, juicy Barolo with fine tannins and a beautiful acid/fruit balance. Long on the finish, and although a bit oaky now, this will be excellent in 2016." (8/2014) K&L Notes: Started by Angelo Germano in 1908, this estate has been run by the fourth generation of Germanos--Davide--since the 1990s. (Davide's first complete vintage was 1998.) This is sourced from the Rué Vineyard. The vineyard's soils are sandy marl, and the vines are farmed naturally, using Integrated Pest Management techn... Read More »
91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Franci lays on good foundations despite the overall austerity of the 2008 vintage. True to the Riserva moniker, there’s an extra dose of intensity here, a riper style, bright acidity at the back and an added layer of firmness or astringency to the tannins. Even the alcohol feels slightly warmer in the 2008 Riserva compaired to the two 2009 Brunellos although it is not (14% compared to 14.5% for the two 2009 wines). In summary, this wine does exactly with Brnello Riserva should do: It brings you a little bit more of ...Read More »

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Sesta di Sopra’s 2008 Brunello di Montalcino is rather closed in its aromatics, but is more expressive on the palate, where layers of dark red fruit come alive. Smoke, tar, licorice, scorched earth and smoke add an attractive element of gravitas on the finish. Deceptively medium in body, the 2008, nevertheless, packs a serious punch. The long, superbly delineated finish bodes well for the future, but the 2008 needs time in bottle to settle down a bit more. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026." (6/2013)91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Dark cherry, leather, tobacco and spicy aromas of cured me ...Read More »
From the Boca DOC in Piemonte, Le Piane makes this bottling of Nebbiolo (85%) and Vespolina (15%). From the importer (not vintage specific): "The mineral composition of the porphyry soil together with the characteristics of the Nebbiolo grapes create in 'Boca' a full expressive wine. Flavors are reminiscent of well-matured wood berries, tobacco and leather with hints of balsamic and citrus fruits. Power and silky elegance develop in the mouth which plays with a slightly noble-bitter finish."
