2012 Louis M. Martini Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

Connoisseurs Guide: "Juicy, young, mildly curranty fruit is played against touches of toasted herbs, vanilla and bit of cranberry pertness first in the nose and again in the flavors of this very steady, slightly frontal, yet consistently focused working, and, while it is never as deep or ambitious as the best of its cousins, it is a tasty, nicely made Cabernet that delivers lots of varietal bang for the buck." (8/2014) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Always one of the best buys in Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma (85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petite Sirah, 4% Merlot and 4% Zinfandel) offe ...Read More »

2012 Beringer Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley is especially deep and powerful in this vintage. Smoke, game, incense, leather, pomegranate, spice and red cherries are some of the many notes that inform this striking Cabernet from Sonoma's Knights Valley, a fertile hunting ground for savory, mineral-driven wines full of character. This is a fabulous wine for the money, but with a production of 90,000 cases, winemaker Laurie Hook shows to achieve quality and value with scale, something that is much harder than it looks. This lineup from Beringer and winemaker ...Read More »

2009 Francis Ford Coppola "Archimedes" Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon (Elsewhere $70)

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This flashy Cabernet is one of Coppola’s best Sonoma County Cabernets ever, a fine followup to the great 2007. It immediately impresses with richness, smoothness of texture and complexity, offering waves of ripe summer blackberry, blueberry and smoke. The tannins are firm, dusty and soft, making the wine drinkable now and over the next six years with steak." 2012 Decoy Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

Connoisseurs Guide: "Cherries and herbs are the dominant themes of this clean, slightly smaller-scaled, medium-bodied offering, and ripeness is always just a bit underplayed. Its proportional tannins provide a bit of Cabernet structure without being too much of a burden to the wine's modest fruit, and a brief stay in the cellar is all that it needs." (4/2014) K&L Notes: From Napa Valley's Duckhorn Vineyards, this is a Cabernet meant for early-drinking enjoyment. 2012 St. Francis "Reserve" Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aged 20 months in French oak, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve possesses an inky/purple color as well as gorgeous notes of blueberries, blackberries, blackcurrants, licorice, camphor and graphite. Full-bodied, youthful and primary as well as stacked and powerful, it offers sweet tannin as well as massive extract and richness. This potentially long-lived, Alexander Valley classic should evolve for 2-3 decades. (RP)" (12/2014)

2012 Enkidu "E" Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

As esoteric as Enkidu's classical references may be, winemaker Phil Staehle has not made it into the "cult wine" pantheon as yet. And yet: Enkidu wines are sought after by a select few for their dependably interesting, well-crafted character. From Sauvignon Blanc to Pinot Noir and Rhone Blends, to Cabernet Sauvignon, Enkidu wines have a "certain something" that's hard to define. And what could be more "cult" than that?

Its deep purple color is accompanied by a gorgeous bouquet of cedar, spice box, black fruits, smoke, and earth. However, it offers sweeter tannins as well as slightly more evolved and complex aromas of unsmoked, high class cigar tobacco, graphite, blackberries, cassis, spring flowers and a distinctive minerality. Although deep, full-bodied and backward, the sweet fruit and tannin provide a more upfront character than the 2009. It, too, is a 30-50-year wine. The wine spent more than a year in oak, 30% of it new French and 10% of it new American. The wood flavor is pronounced, a taste of vanilla an endpoint to the finish." (12/2014) Wine Spectator: "Tightly wound, with a pure, vivid core of juicy blackberry, wild berry, cedary oak, anise and dill flavors, ending with a loamy crushed rock minerality. 2003 Kenwood "Artist Series" Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)

Connoisseurs Guide: "Even accepting that Cabernet Sauvignon is a grape that delivers its fair share of tannin, this wine goes a little bit overboard in its late parts, and the ripe, rich aromas and reasonably fruity flavors that come before are more than a little bit occluded at the back. Still, there is fruit at its heart, and, for those willing to wait, the wine may well reward their patience." It possesses an earthy terroir character of graphite, hot bricks, and scorched earth that brings to mind a ripe vintage of Haut-Brion. Black currants, sweet cherries, and spice are also present in this dark ruby/purple-hued wine.
