2009 Pédesclaux, Pauillac Top Pick!
2009 Pédesclaux, Pauillac

93 points James Suckling: "Huge improvement here. This is full-bodied, with super polished tannins and light smoky, chocolaty and plum character. Long and polished. Very fine indeed. Drink after 2016." (8/2012) 90-92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Packed with Cabernet blackcurrant flavors, very ripe and laden with blackcurrants. Great final freshness." (8/2010)92 points Wine Spectator: "An amped-up style, with showy aromatics of toasty spice and wood, but there's good solid density to the blackberry, black currant and fig fruit, and the toast melds into a more honest graphite edge through the finish. A solid expression of the modern style. Best f ...Read More »

2010 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac

98 points James Suckling: "A wine with great beauty and finesse. Such elegance and ethereal quality for this estate. Full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a juicy delicious finish. Long and beautiful. This is the best Lynch in a long, long time. I love the precision here. Try in 2018." (11/2013)96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Lynch Bages is an absolutely brilliant wine, and somewhat reminiscent at this stage in its development of the profound 1989. Jean-Charles Cazes, who took over for his father a number of years ago, has produced a magnificent wine with the classic creme de cassis note intermixed with ...Read More »

93 points James Suckling: "This is very muscular with blackcurrant, blueberry and mineral character. Full and tight now but this shows a serious backbone of tannins and length. Try in 2018." (2/2015)93 points Wine Spectator: "Well-built, with a charcoal frame that melds nicely with steeped currant, blackberry paste and dark plum fruit flavors. The long finish is riveted to a graphite underpinning. Remarkably dense, but without the austere twinge of the vintage. Best from 2018 through 2030." 2005 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The work that Alfred Tesseron and his winemaking team have done at this estate since 1994 is remarkable. At this fabulous terroir just south of Mouton-Rothschild, Tesseron has made major investments, and instituted incredibly severe selections in both the vineyard and winery. The result is a succession of extraordinary wines. It is difficult to know whether the 2005 Pontet-Canet will ultimately eclipse the hedonism and density of the flamboyant 2003, but it is unquestionably a stunning effort. This shows so much ripe fruit and berry character with just the right hint of lead pencil and spice. Full-bodied and very chewy. Big and powerful. Beautiful wine. Superb. Best after 2012." The finish retains the same delicious freshness and brightness of this vintage." (4/2013) 94-95 points James Suckling: "A wine that makes you want to drink it already. It’s stylish with berries, currants, cedar and stone aromas and flavors. Full body, with very integrated tannins and a long, long finish. 2003 Grand Puy Lacoste, Pauillac

92 points Wine Spectator: "Blackberry and licorice aromas, with full body, very fine tannins and a long finish. Very silky. So much for jammy wines in 2003. Very fresh and refined. Best after 2008." (7/2006)90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good red-ruby color. Very ripe aromas of redcurrant and smoke. Dense and sweet but a tad rustic, with flavors of roasted dark fruits, chocolate and menthol. Offers a smooth texture, ripe acidity and sneaky length, but could use more precision of flavor and thrust." (6/2006)

2008 Pauillac de Latour, Pauillac

Jancis Robinson: "Deep crimson with a purple tinge. The only blend that might change very slightly - maybe add a little bit more press wine or something. Really rather seductive nose. You could almost drink this now! Very polished and rich and zesty. Pretty clever. Hint of malt that softens it. Then scrunched up on the finish. Clean and neat. Lots of Merlot." (5/2009) K&L Notes: This is Château Latour's third wine, created by the estate in 1973 from the finished wine that is still good, but that doesn't fit the Les Forts de Latour (Latour's second label) profile. 92-94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Barrel Sample. Here is a ripe and smoky wine, with a firm, tannic structure and a sense of the deep gravel terroir. The high proportion of Merlot in the blend has given richness to the wine, with a big, fat texture on the finish." (4/2015) 92-93 points James Suckling: "This is very solid and muscular with dark berries and blueberries. More merlot than normal but shows a serious structure that underlines the excellence of the cabernet. Small production of cabernet here with 45% merlot in the blend." 1996 Latour, Pauillac

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-black in color, the 1996 is classic Latour at its utmost. The nose offers a tantalizing array of complex notes including dried Chinese plums, toasted nuts, Indian spices and black olive tapenade over a core of dried cherries and aged meat. The palate is pure power that is stunningly balanced giving a generous level of fruit concentration perfectly offset by a high level of very finely grained tannins and seamless freshness. Silky and resonant in the glass, the 2013 impresses for its texture and soft, enveloping personality. While there is plenty of early appeal, the 2013 has more than enough brightness and acidity to suggest it will age gracefully. The 2013 Pichon Baron brings together a classic sense of structure with a modern and very pure expression of fruit. The blend is 82% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Merlot. Tasted twice." 1996 Pontet-Canet Pauillac Top Pick!
1996 Pontet-Canet Pauillac

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I was shocked by how backward the 1996 Pontet-Canet was on the three occasions I tasted it in January. This wine possesses superb potential, but it appears a decade's worth of patience will be necessary. The color is a saturated dark purple. With coaxing, the wine offers aromas of black currant jam intertwined with minerals, sweet oak, and spice. A full-bodied wine, it possesses layered, concentrated sweet fruit, with an elevated level of ripe tannin. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2035. Given its structure, the wine will obviously age well, even if it is drinkable in the medium term." (4/2013) 91-94 points Wine Spectator: "Features a bright, lively, leafy edge, with cassis bush and tobacco framing the slightly tangy core of red currant and black cherry, showing a solid note of iron. 2000 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "With its distinctive antique bottle and gold etched label dominated by a sheep, this is definitely a move away from classic Bordeaux bottling. It is good that the wine can support the presentation. The fruit is so ripe, it almost tastes of raisins, but that sweetness is finely balanced by the dry tannins and concentrated texture. To finish, there are exotic spices, giving an almost oriental character to the long aftertaste." The wine is evolving beautifully, but do not drink before 2020." (5/2014)95 points James Suckling: "A wine with lots of ripe berries, verging on dried fruits. The 1996 is always talked about, but I think this is superior and will be in the future.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2010. (Web-2007)"

2012 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
2012 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac (Pre-Arrival)

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "* Cellar Selection * Showing the serious side of Lafite, this is big and dark, powered by tannins as much as fruit. The wood aging is still showing, although that will integrate into the great structure that holds up the ripe black currant fruits. Totally dominated by some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon in Bordeaux, this wine has strength while also having great freshness. Drink from 2024." (5/2015)95 points James Suckling: "Superb structure for the vintage with blackcurrants, cedar, mushroom and sweet tobacco character. Full-bodied yet reserved and tight with an impressive densi ...Read More »

2011 Lynch Bages, Pauillac

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a luxurious wine that’s opulently rich. Ripe black fruits dominate, lending fullness to the firm structure in the backdrop. It’s a wine with great potential, density and weight. Touches of chocolate and licorice combine with flavors of dark plum, toast and spice. Drink from 2018." (2/2014)93 points James Suckling: "A dense, chewy wine for the vintage, with plum, currant and blackberry character. Full body, polished tannic texture and a bright finish. Very pretty indeed. This needs time to soften. Try in 2019." (2/2014)92 points Wine Spectator: "This has solid guts, with plum, currant and blackberry fr ...Read More »

1996 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1996 exhibits a dark plum/ruby/purple color that is just beginning to lighten at the edge, surprisingly velvety tannins and a classic Pauillac bouquet of lead pencil shavings, cedarwood, black currants, sweet cherries and spice box. This medium to full-bodied, elegant, savory, broad wine is still five years away from full maturity. It should continue to drink well for another 10-15 years." (8/2011)92 points Wine Spectator: "This is much more open than the 1995. Offers aromas and flavors of currant, mint and spices. Full-bodied, soft and velvety, with a fruit finish. Starting to ...Read More »

2001 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac

91 points Wine & Spirits: "*no tasting note given*" (12/2004)90 points Wine Spectator: "Offers gorgeous aromas of currant, chocolate and dried flowers. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long finish. Very pretty. Still tight. ( Web Only-2007)" Jancis Robinson: "Quite dark crimson. Very rich and seductive on the nose. Some evolution and lots of burnt mineral aromas. Lifted and fresh on the finish. But not angular and awkward. Actually rather racy and refreshing after the opulent nose. 17.5/20 points. Drink 2012 - 2025." (3/2012) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The fully mature 2001 exhibits aromas of tapenade, bay leaf, licorice, red and black currants, damp ...Read More »

2003 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac

94 points James Suckling: "A beautiful intensity to this wine, flowers, plums, and freshness on the nose. Full and rich, with round ripe tannins and a medium finish. Flavors of fresh herbs, flowers, and tobacco on the palate. A lovely wine right now, but give this some more time. Pull the cork in 2014." (4/2011)94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine is dominated by new wood, which goes right through the big, dark fruit flavors and tannins. Very ripe cassis flavors are under this wood, waiting likely for many years before the wood flavors subside. This is very much in the modern, polished style of Mouton today, ...Read More »

2004 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac

94 points James Suckling: "I drank this 2004 Chateau Mouton-Rothschild the other night at home with some wine producers. I decanted it only right before serving - a mistake made while concentrating on the cooking food. On the nose there were coffee and chocolate aromas with hints of vanilla. It was super fruity, and its medium body was coupled with beautifully soft tannins. This is just coming around now and it's very New World in style. Overall, a much overlooked vintage from Mouton." (8/2013)94 points Wine & Spirits: "Supple and grand, Mouton has a heavenly richness in 2004. The flavors are saturated with ...Read More »

1982 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (high shoulder, some corroded capsules) Top Pick!
1982 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (high shoulder, some corroded capsules)

100 points James Suckling: "What an amazing red. It's so very youthful with toasted oak, light vanilla, and dark berries such as currants and blueberries. Then it turns to mint. This is so fresh and intensely fruity. It lasts for minutes on your palate with each sip. It is so powerful yet elegant. It will improve for hundreds of years. I would still leave it in my cellar for five or ten years. If you need to drink it, decant it three to four hours in advance." (11/2010)100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine remains one of the legends of Bordeaux. It has thrown off the backward, youthful style that existed durin ...Read More »

1998 Latour, Pauillac

96 points Wine & Spirits: "No note available." (4/2002)91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Red-ruby. Deep aromas of cassis, licorice and lead pencil. Deeper than Les Forts but currently rather mute in the middle. Strongly minerally. Offers classic Latour structure and spine. Finishes with sneaky, subtle persistence." (5/2001)90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "...The 1998 possesses a dark garnet/purple color in addition to a complex bouquet of underbrush, cedar, walnuts, and licorice-tinged black currants. (RP)" (4/2001)90 points Wine Spectator: "Plenty of raspberry, dark chocolate and mint on the nose. Full-bodied, with licorice and sweet tobacco character and a cedar undertone. ...Read More »

1990 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (96RP, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Interestingly, a bottle of 1990 Lafite Rothschild I pulled from my cellar for a video blog on my web site was still buttoned down, tight, and even with extended decanting was not showing as much as I would have hoped. However, a bottle tasted, of all places, in Seoul, Korea in February, was only a few points short of perfection. That amazing performance motivated me to pull another bottle out of my cellar and follow it over the course of two days. Sure enough, by the second day the wine was roaring from the glass. The 1990 Lafite has turned out far better than my early assessment. While it still possesses some firmness, and performs like a late adolescent in terms of its evolution, it boasts gorgeous aromas of cedar, tobacco leaf, cassis, and lead pencil shavings. The explosive aromas are followed by a fleshy, full-bodied wine that should hit its peak in 5-8 years, and last for 25-30 mo

2009 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac

96 points James Suckling: "What a great nose of blackberries, currants and spices. Hints of fresh herbs. Full body, with ultra-fine tannins and lovely fruit. Such finesse and beauty. Wonderful to taste. Reminds me of the legendary 1982. Try in 2018." (2/2012)95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A beautiful effort, the 2009 Pichon Lalande, a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, possesses copious mocha, lead pencil, unsmoked, high class tobacco, black currant, forest floor and herbaceous characteristics.
