2012 Georg Albrecht Schneider "vom Rotliegenden" Niersteiner Hipping Riesling Spätlese Trocken (dry) (Elsewhere $18)

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Pretty floral and apricot aromas brighten savory apple notes on this dry, but intensely honeyed Riesling. Bright and brisk on the palate, with searing lime acidity, it finishes long, with a refreshing spray of green herbs." (6/2014)91 points Wine Spectator: "Shows a peppery edge to the dried apple, pear and apricot flavors, with crushed stone notes and hints of smoke on the powerful and well-structured finish. 2013 Josef Leitz "Dragonstone" Riesling (Previously $18)

Extraordinarily aromatic, vigorous wines from a vintner who grows more commanding each vintage. This is the wine that once was called Rüdesheimer Drachenstein, and it’s the wine David Schildknecht said was the best Riesling value in the world, which is because Johannes sells it to us for much less than it’s worth. For a large-production wine this receives the same care in the vineyards and cellar that every Leitz wine receives.

2014 Dr. Heyden Rosé

This blend—Pinot Noir, Portuguieser, with a touch of Dornfelder—was made by Frank Heyden, a second-generation winemaker who's shown much promise in crafting excellent wines from his family's highly rated vineyards in Rheinhessen. His classic wines really outperform for their price tag.

Fritz Müller "Perlwein" Rheinhessenn Müller-Thurgau Trocken

This lightly sparkling wine is meant to be the German answer to Prosecco. From the winery: "Light straw yellow with lovely green highlights. Fresh-fruity aromas of pear, apple and grapefruit. 2011 Friedrich Becker Estate Pinot Noir

Coming from one of the top producers of Spatburgunder (Pinot Noir) this "entry level" Pinot is a spicy treat. With the chalky soils in the area, Becker produces some of Germany's finest Pinot Noir. Full of spicy strawberry and bright cherry fruit, just a hint of tobacco and a dusty earthiness and layers of subtle textures tell you that you paid way too little for this offering. Delicious on its own, but also complements heavier seafood, poultry and fine cuts of beef or game.

2013 Dönnhoff Estate Riesling Trocken (Dry)

Jancis Robinson: "Bright fruit but not (too) painful acidity. Very well etched and balanced. Drink to 2017." (5/2014) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Most of all sourced in Oberhausen vineyards, so predominantly from volcanic soils, the 2013 Riesling Trocken is a clear, bright, piquant, fresh and light to medium-bodied Riesling with a straightforward character and a salty finish. It's quite characterful for an entry level. (SR)" (1/2015) Wine Spectator: "There's a strong minerally cast to the ripe apple and green pear flavors, with a languid finish that has some spicy notes." 2013 Dr. F. Weins-Prüm Estate Riesling (Feinherb)

If you haven't had the wines from this estate you should. They are classy, elegant and don't try to beat you into submission by being anything they are not. The estate wine from Dr F Weins-Prüm is feinherb in style. What does that mean? Basically it is a wine that is dry, but with just a touch fruitiness to it that makes it an easygoing, quaffable wine for everyday use. 2013 Ökonomierat Rebholz Pinot Blanc

Quiet, focused, precise, and passionate. These words describe Hanjörg Rebholz and his wines perfectly. Each has a self assured presence, and please don't waste your breath telling them Germany can't make dry wine.
